2021 European Year of Rail aims to promote sustainable mobility

Posted by fidest press agency su martedì, 17 novembre 2020

On Thursday, Parliament and Council negotiators reached a provisional political agreement to make 2021 the European Year of Rail. The European Year of Rail will promote rail as a sustainable, innovative and safe mode of transport with events, campaigns and initiatives planned throughout 2021. The Year of Rail will endorse the creation of a Single European Rail Area for passengers and freight, encourage investments in infrastructure, and campaign for the rights of rail passengers. As one of the most environmentally-friendly and energy-efficient modes of transport, rail also has a significant role to play in achieving climate neutrality by 2050.“With this agreement, we are paving the way for a successful European Year of Rail in 2021. Our ambition is to go beyond celebrating rail as an environmentally-friendly mode of transport and an important cultural asset in Europe. We also want to stimulate meaningful discussions on how we can increase the number of passengers and goods travelling by rail, in line with our climate ambitions,” said Rapporteur Anna Deparnay-Grunenberg (Greens/EFA, DE).Parliament’s Transport Committee will vote on the agreed text before it goes to plenary. The Council will adopt its first reading position after the plenary vote. The decision will enter into force once published in the Official Journal of the EU.

Mobility package: Transport Committee backs deal with EU Ministers

Posted by fidest press agency su giovedì, 23 gennaio 2020

A deal between Parliament and Finnish Presidency negotiators on reforming the road transport sector was approved by the Transport and Tourism Committee on Tuesday. The revised rules for posting of drivers, drivers’ rest times and better enforcement of cabotage rules (i.e. transport of goods carried out by non-resident hauliers on a temporary basis in a host member state) aim to put an end to distortion of competition in the road transport sector and provide better rest conditions for drivers. The agreement keeps the existing limits to cabotage (three operations within seven days), but in order to tackle fraud, vehicle tachographs will be used to register border-crossings.To prevent “systematic cabotage”, there will also be a “cooling-off period” of four days before more cabotage operations can be carried out within same country with the same vehicle.
To fight the use of letterbox companies, road haulage businesses would need to have substantial activities in the member state in which they are registered. New rules will also require trucks to return to the company’s operational centre every eight weeks.
Since operators increasingly use vans to provide international transport services, those operators (using light commercial vehicles of over 2.5 tonnes) would also be subject to EU norms for transport operators and would need to equip the vans with a tachograph.
EU-wide rules on posting of drivers will give a clear legal framework, so that these rules can be easily applied in the highly mobile transport sector, to prevent differing national approaches and ensure fair remuneration for drivers. The agreed rules stipulate that posting rules apply to cabotage and international transport operations, excluding transit, bilateral operations and bilateral operations with one extra loading or unloading in each direction (or zero on the way out and two on return).
Better working conditions for drivers. The agreed text also includes changes to help ensure better rest conditions for drivers and allow them to spend more time at home.
Companies will have to organise their timetables so that drivers in international freight transport are able to return home at regular intervals (every three or four weeks depending on the work schedule). The mandatory rest period at the end of the week, known as regular weekly rest, cannot be taken in the truck cab, the agreed text says. If this rest period is taken away from home, the company must pay for accommodation costs. In exceptional cases, new rules will allow drivers to exceed the driving time under strict limitations to reach home to take their weekly rest, when they are very close to the home base. The deal will now need to be approved by EU ministers and then by the Parliament as a whole to enter into force. The rules on posting will apply 18 months after the entry into force of the legal act. The rules on rest times, including the return of drivers, will apply 20 days after publication of the act. Rules on return of trucks and other changes to market access rules will apply 18 months after the entry into force of act on market access.

Mobility week

Posted by fidest press agency su giovedì, 20 settembre 2018

New Mobility Ecosystem

Posted by fidest press agency su martedì, 5 giugno 2018

CarBlock, the world’s first blockchain-based transportation solution built on data generated by smart devices announced today that it has joined MOBI, the Mobility Open Blockchain Initiative, to explore blockchain and distributed ledger technology (DLT) for use in the development of a digital mobility ecosystem that could make transportation safer, more affordable, and more widely available. CarBlock is collaborating with the MOBI and other industry, government, and non-profit partners to foster a digital environment where users – both businesses and consumers – may securely record driving data, manage ride-share and car-share transactions, and store vehicle identity and usage information.Blockchain technology sends information over a network of independent computers, known as a distributed ledger, intended to ensure that transactions are secure and data privacy, ownership rights, and integrity are protected. CarBlock and partners believe that blockchain technology may create transparency and trust among users, reduce risk of fraud, and reduce frictions and transaction costs in mobility, such as fees or surcharges applied by third parties.“We believe in MOBI and its broad abilities to revolutionize the transportation industry. We can see its potential in a variety of use cases, including the ability to expand our own offerings and service more drivers,” said Julie Wang, Cofounder and Head of Ecosystems, CarBlock.Through an open-source approach to software tools and standards, the MOBI consortium hopes to stimulate more rapid and scalable adoption of blockchain technology applications by other companies developing autonomous vehicle and mobility services. CarBlock is pleased to join MOBI to collaborate with global partners on the development of blockchain-enabled vehicle data and mobility services applications.

A deepened Single market for labour and digital innovation

Posted by fidest press agency su domenica, 15 Maggio 2016

digital innovationPaul-Jaspers Dittrich, research fellow in our office in Germany, the Jacques Delors Institut – Berlin, argues that the EU needs higher productivity growth. Higher factor mobility, especially of labour, but also of capital or knowledge and technology, would benefit European citizens as it enhances the efficient allocation of resources and thus boosts productivity and welfare in the Single Market. A higher geographic labour mobility and a genuine European labour market can become a major factor in putting the EU on a track of more economic and productivity growth and less cyclical unemployment.
Product market reforms in the digital sector can boost TFP-growth. The Digital Single Market (DSM) should become a cornerstone of future productivity growth. Several measures should be taken up to meet these objectives. The European Job Mobility Portal EURES could become a European employment agency in the long-term. National employment agencies should cooperate more and exchange information in a European database on vacancies. A better functioning job placement system has to be accompanied by discretionary measures designed to bring young people in training and jobs and address skill shortages. One proposal for this is the Erasmus Pro: One Million European apprentices by 2020-initiative. Member states should simplify their recognition procedures and open up “closed professions” such as architects, accountants or engineers for European citizens.National policy action has to accompany European regulation: Southern European countries need to introduce more elements of flexi-curity and life-long learning into their national policy mix. Countries like Germany should invest more in higher education as unfavourable demographics will otherwise lead to accelerating skill shortages. The drive towards a European labour market should be accompanied by prioritised policy actions to manage the digital transformation. A functioning Digital Single Market accelerates the diffusion of new ideas, business models and technology, thus boosting TFP. Policy-makers should prioritise actions with a focus on productivity growth. E-commerce is a rapidly growing segment which should make better use of the Single Market. Mobile markets need more competition for companies and more coordination among MS for the assignment of spectrum licenses. This could lead to a faster adaption and diffusion of the coming 5-G technology, in turn supplying the EU with a competitive edge for the development of new services and products in the era of inter-connectivity and the Internet of Things.
Automotive Players Targeting Corporate Mobility to Secure Share in Integrated Transport Solutions

Posted by fidest press agency su martedì, 14 aprile 2015

london-centralLondon, UK Offering services that facilitate an integrated door-to-door business travel management solution is one of the main focus areas for growth and investment in 2015 in the automotive industry. With the business travel market worth $1.3 Trillion (GBTA), there is an increasing trend towards companies using online booking tools and cloud based services to plan, book, and expense/account business trips. Automotive market players are working to have their share of the future corporate mobility market by creating new mobility business models, some by rebranding as business mobility providers. “There are several mobility providers making a shift, such as BMW Alphabet or LeasePlan, having previously been traditional leasing companies, now targeting customers with more flexible solutions, offering corporate carsharing or a mobility mix of services,” says Partner and Global Practice Director Automotive & Transportation, Mr. Sarwant Singh. “The rising digital technology capability turns car companies into service providers and makes it crucial to develop pioneering business models to secure one’s share of the market.”To present and discuss potential new mobility business models for the automotive as well as related industries, Frost & Sullivan organises its upcoming annual industry event ‘Intelligent Mobility: Business Models in Connected and Automated Mobility’ (http://ow.ly/LwfCs) on 1st and 2nd July 2015 at the House of Lords as well as the Royal Garden Hotel in London. The parliamentary debate and subsequent one-day conference is a must-attend event for all industry leaders and related stakeholders. “According to a recent customer survey conducted by our research team, there is a revolutionary shift underway in the corporate mobility space, linking smart solutions from several adjacent industries, such as Fleet, Travel and Expense Management to the general mobility industry, which results in changing customer preferences towards new business models, such as carsharing, ridesharing, and parking services,” further outlines Mr. Singh. “There is a high interest in deploying such solutions over the next two years. The number of companies entering the corporate carsharing market increased from 13 in 2013 to 20 last year, with most car rental and leasing firms present, and the entry of vehicle manufacturers Audi and Daimler.”Besides focusing on the development of the corporate mobility market as well as future mobility business models and trends as well as new mobility business models, Intelligent Mobility will bring together industry experts on autonomous vehicles, connected cars, Big Data in Automotive, cyber security as well as e-commerce platforms.

Frost & Sullivan: Big Data’s Predictive Functions to Help Identify and Deliver Opportunities in the Automotive Industry

Posted by fidest press agency su mercoledì, 26 marzo 2014

londonLondon, UK Both the European and North American automotive industries are on the cusp of change, with big data and connected services combining to foster the development of diverse mobility integration business models. Frost & Sullivan expects 60 percent of original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) to devise big data strategies and offerings in the next two years, prompted by the proliferation of high-bandwidth, embedded connectivity technologies, such as long term evolution (LTE). OEMs’ strategies could involve strengthening in-house capabilities or outsourcing the job to big data experts. The focus is on standing out from the competition based on brand awareness, digital engagement of customers, and response time. New analysis from Frost & Sullivan, Strategic Analysis of the Impact of Big Data on the European and North American Automotive Industry, finds that by 2020 approximately 35 million vehicles in Europe and North America will make relevant data sets available for OEMs to assimilate and convert into actionable insights. Around post-2015 or 2016, the industry is expected to witness the emergence of integrated service providers with expertise in end-to-end services across the automotive value chain, from consulting to implementation. The concept of connectivity is gaining currency in the European and North American automotive markets, as there is a rising need to create a three-way data sharing network among dealers, customers and the OEMs. This collaboration is crucial for providing a seamless after-sales experience through convenient service scheduling or proactive diagnostics. Furthermore, having access to data regarding the vehicle’s performance and issues before it reaches the service center, will also help dealers better manage their inventory.

New Mobility Segment for Short Distance Commutes

Posted by fidest press agency su mercoledì, 4 aprile 2012

London As the cost of global congestion inches towards the $1 Trillion mark, key economies including Europe, North America, Japan and China amongst others prepare for a green-commute blueprint. 16 of the key Automotive OEMs are working on more than 110 short distance vehicles, with approximately 50 models being already production ready. The remaining 60 are in concept stage, but expected to become production ready by 2020. The emergence of such micro-mobility vehicles is expected to fight congestion, ease parking space identification and aid in faster as well as greener commutes in crowded city centres.Frost & Sullivan will hold a complimentary web conference, entitled The Rise of a Next-Generation Sustainable Mobility, taking place on Tuesday, 17th April 2012, at 3 p.m. GMT. Industry Analyst Automotive & Transportation, Vishwas Shankar, will introduce key participants in the global market for micro mobility solutions and the models they are planning with vehicle characteristics such as speed, driving range, vehicle homologation, seating arrangement, etc. He will also present thought-provoking insights, why global key OEMs have already invested more than $300 million in this market, as well as drivers and restraints related to current market dynamics. To participate in this complimentary web conference, please email Katja Feick at katja.feick@frost.com with your full contact details. Upon receipt of the above information, a registration link will be e-mailed to you. You may also register to receive a recorded version of the briefing at anytime by submitting the aforementioned contact details. This web conference will primarily benefit components manufacturers, distributors, vehicle manufacturers, as well as technology partners globally. Automotive OEMs will have to prepare for intense competition in an emerging segment while planning to offer an integrated mobility beyond cars. Technology partners and component suppliers will receive valuable information for their plans and investments in areas of growing interest among automakers. From a local and global fleet operator’s viewpoint, the web conference can help to understand and plan new models in addition to existing fleets.”The micro-mobility segment focuses largely on daily short distance commutes of 1-15 miles, but also includes additional emerging models to provide city-driving of up to even 40-45 miles,” says Mr. Shankar.”China is the preferred launch pad by global OEMs. Congested cities with narrow roads and a growing difficulty of parking space identification favours China over other economies, such as Europe. Also, more than 70 per cent of these unconventional mobility models are expected to be electric; China being the biggest e-bike market is expected to lead from the front with this new DNA of integrated mobility”, he concludes.

London Frost & Sullivan has pinned down the top Mega Trends that will influence and shape the world in the coming years and has launched a Visionary Innovation Research Programme. A brave new world emerges from Frost & Sullivan’s recent research, “World’s Top Global Mega Trends to 2020 and Implications to Business, Society and Cultures.” According to the analysis, sustainability was one of the major Mega Trends that shaped human, organisation and government behaviour in the last decade. The study forecasts health, wellness and well-being with a much wider definition than mere healthcare, which will include body, mind and soul as the most important factor of discussion and differentiation in this decade. It reveals that women empowerment will reach new heights, with one in three workers being a woman and up to 40 percent of boardrooms in some nations comprising women by 2020. The world will also witness reverse brain drain, wherein the vast vacancies for CXOs in countries like India will be filled not only by returning Indians, but also by Americans and Europeans seeking better prospects.
The next level of social networking will focus on geographic services and capabilities such as geocoding and geotagging to enable additional social dynamics. User-submitted data with profiles and interests will be matched with location-based services to connect and co-ordinate with surrounding people or events. This type of geo-networking will drive markets, businesses and individuals to interact, advertise and promote in real time.

“La mobilità in Italia dal 1861 ad oggi”

Posted by fidest press agency su venerdì, 25 marzo 2011

Electric Vehicles Unplugged 2010

Posted by fidest press agency su giovedì, 1 luglio 2010

London Government support for infrastructure development, consumer incentives, and manufacturing will catalyze market growth, concluded parliamentarians and industry leaders at Frost & Sullivan’s second annual Electric Vehicles Unplugged event which took place June 22 – 23 in London.  However, investment in R & D and in battery and related EV technology manufacturing is crucial if the UK is to fully benefit from the manifold opportunities presented by this new sector. The workshop affirmed that the age of electric mobility is rapidly dawning, providing significant high tech manufacturing opportunities in the UK. The second day at the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders featured presentations from Frost & Sullivan on EV-related mega trends and implications for electric mobility.  Key OEM representatives including Richard Chandler of Nissan, Tobias Reich of PSA, Lord Jamie B of Modec, Nancy Gioia of Ford, and Diana Blake of Optimal Energy, summarised their future EV strategies and business models. Antony Brenbaum of HSBC outlined his company’s vision of investing in Better Place and spoke about  investment opportunities and challenges in EV financing. Robert Stuessi of AVERE, Karl Froelich of Atraverda, Graeme Craig of Transport for London, Maarten Casse of Stedin, Sean Long of One North East, Oliver Weinmann of Vattenfall and Catherine Hutt of the SMMT updated the audience about EV infrastructure challenges, progress and milestones.

Mobility

Posted by fidest press agency su venerdì, 2 aprile 2010

London Electric scooters and motorcycles offer smart, eco-friendly and accessible mobility options for urban transportation.  Thanks to a rapidly developing re-charging infrastructure and innovative design, they have the potential to meet consumer demand and pave the way for innovative micro mobility solutions in Europe’s developing mega cities. New analysis from Frost & Sullivan (http://www.automotive.frost.com), 360 Degree Analysis of the European Electric Scooters and Motorcycles Market, finds that consumer interests and technology significantly drive the market. However, electric scooters and motorcycles require greater investment and involve higher running costs than gas-powered two-wheelers. This is a concern for the consumer in terms of cost of ownership. Additionally, imports of low-quality inexpensive electric scooters from Asian markets, compete with high quality reliable electric scooters and motorcycles, vehicle manufacturers are looking to offer to European consumers. Vehicle manufacturers, suppliers and other stakeholders in the industry should look to work together towards standardising motor and battery technologies to make electric scooters and motorcycles more affordable.Technology should be standardised through a unified approach between battery suppliers, infrastructure providers and vehicle manufacturers. The government should look at promoting electric scooters and motorcycles with incentives or subsidies while vehicle manufacturers should consider new business models, such as battery leasing, to bring down initial purchase costs and battery maintenance/replacement costs for consumers.  “There is a burgeoning demand for integrated mobility and first/last mile connectivity solutions in developing urban cities and pedelecs offer an ideal solution for sustainable, eco-friendly mobility of the future,” concludes Rajagopalan.

The growth of megacities

Posted by fidest press agency su venerdì, 5 marzo 2010

London. Urbanisation and economic development are pushing the growth of megacities, particularly in developing economies and BRIC countries.  With population exceeding 10 million, these urban clusters face inevitable socio-economic, logistic and ecological challenges that, in turn, are pushing many daily commuters into the suburbs, making traffic volumes skyrocket.  This is leading to the rise of Mobility Integrators (MI) that collaborate with various transport providers and facilitators such as online mobility service providers and booking agencies, online payment gateways, technology solution providers and application developers, and telecom operators, to provide real time solutions for commuters. In terms of return on investment (ROI), the core revenue stream will derive from selling mobility services as booking travel tickets but will also include member subscriptions and renewals, selling other mobility related applications for mobile phones, and advertisements. Besides personal mobility, the MIs will also offer mobility solutions to business clients as a travel portal for their internal use. Eventually, vehicle manufacturers are expected to partner with MIs or in some cases even emerge as a MI, creating a brand differentiation factor and promoting their vehicles. “There is a high probability that existing transport operators and online mobility service providers, like Travelvelocity.com and Expedia Inc., have a greater chance of emerging as MIs by extending their existing business model,” argues Mubarak.

Auto: nel 2010 senza gli incentivi

Posted by fidest press agency su martedì, 3 novembre 2009
