MEPs want to improve free movement of services

Posted by fidest press agency su domenica, 6 dicembre 2020

Bruxelles. The Internal Market Committee insists that all member states respect EU rules on the free movement of services and sees fragmentation as a threat to the single market. The resolution on the future of free movement of services was adopted with 31 votes in favour (3 against, 11 abstentions).MEPs call on the Commission to ensure enforcement and compliance with the Services Directive in many member states in order to reduce existing barriers to provide services cross-border. They assert that fragmentation and issues with implementation costs the EU around €297 billion, which corresponds to 2% of the EU’s GDP.At the same time, the MEPs emphasise the need to balance economic freedoms, social rights and the protection of consumers, workers, and business interests. Development of the single market should also bring further improvement for consumer and workers’ rights.”The single market creates jobs and generates wealth for European citizens, but we still need to improve it to realize the full potential. This report highlights different ways to reap the low hanging fruit of the market for services. SMEs would benefit enormously if we finally manage to open this market,” said Rapporteur Morten Løkkegaard (Renew, DK). The resolution points out that cross-border provision of services is often made difficult due to numerous obstacles, including a lack of user-friendly information, failure to mutually recognise or compare professional qualifications, limited access to regulated professions, unfounded territorial restrictions, language requirements, and administrative barriers for public procurement. MEPs underline that the special status of services of general interest remains fully recognised; however, the rules should not be misused with member states sometimes unjustifiably hindering access to certain sectors. The MEPs want to see the single digital gateway becoming more citizen- and SME-friendly and the points of single contact being developed into fully functioning portals, providing all necessary information about any business-related requirements a company must comply with in the relevant member state (e.g. professional qualifications, VAT rules, registration requirements, reporting obligations). The resolution also emphasises that free, fair and safe movement of services and people, consumer protection, and the strict enforcement of EU law is paramount for tackling the economic crisis caused by the COVID-19 pandemic. MEPs therefore urge the member states to ease unjustified and disproportionate barriers and not use COVID-19 as a justification for limiting the free movement of services. Plenary is expected to vote on the resolution in January 2021.

For professionals: How to destroy a movement

Posted by fidest press agency su martedì, 13 agosto 2019

From the end of the Second World War to today we have had two political movements of protest or not sprung up from the rib of the existing parties but born from the urns for spontaneous germination. They were joined by the opposition of a certain electoral body towards traditional parties that have shown themselves to be more inclined to support employers and capital than to defend the interests of the weakest. In the first case I am referring to the Front of Man Whatever (FUQ) first born as a movement and, subsequently, it became a political party born around the newspaper L’Uomo male, of the satirical-political weekly founded in Rome in 1944 by G. Giannini. It lasted two years, only to be incorporated in all areas of Italian politics. From that moment on, the parties found an antidote giving life to the currents where the political proposal was diversified to become, at the same time, conservative and innovative, as cattocomunisti and anti-communists to say that one could be a communist without being one and vice versa. It was a “joke” that gradually wore out until the Five Star Movement founded in Milan on 4 October 2009 by the comedian and political activist Beppe Grillo emerged. The guiding idea was to stimulate methods of direct democracy as opposed to representative democracy. From then until 2018, with the political elections, the popular consensus reached 32% of the readership. At this point the pentastellatos became very uncomfortable both to traditional parties and to the so-called “strong powers” as they could not exercise the classic persuasion techniques of which traditional parties were particularly sensitive and acquiescent. Thus came the idea of involving the pentastellars in the government of the country but with a poisoned meatball called the League and led by a Masaniello in the thirteenth. At this point it became clear to everyone that the pentastellars had played their credibility because they could not compete with a mad driver with a shy Di Maio. And the facts of the last few days prove us right: in just over a year, millions of voters have abandoned the movement. And this decline seems unstoppable. Now the masterful lesson on how one can destroy a movement has become a classic. (Riccardo Alfonso)

“Protecting posted workers: A contribution to free movement of persons in Europe?”

Posted by fidest press agency su martedì, 13 novembre 2018

Brussels on 14 November 2018 at 17:00 Thon Hotel EU, Rue de la Loi/Wetstraat 75. The College of Europe Development Office, in cooperation with the Swiss Mission to the EU, is organizing an after-work panel debate on “Protecting posted workers – A contribution to free movement of persons in Europe?” In recent years the free movement of workers, one of the fundamental principles of the European Union, has become an increasingly polarized topic in the public opinion. In the run-up to the Brexit-referendum Brexit campaigners claimed the large number of EU workers in Britain were responsible for the downward pressure on British wages. These concerns have been shared in other EU Member States and have recently prompted the Juncker-Commission to revise the Posted Workers Directive in order to protect European workers from social dumping. In a similar vein, Switzerland has a long experience in this field since its bilateral agreement with the EU on the free movement of persons entered into force in 2002 (AFMP). Switzerland introduced in 2004 flanking measures in order to protect the working conditions that apply to the specific situation of Switzerland, in conformity with the AMFP. New measures are being discussed on a regular basis.

Letter to CEO John Ridding and editors of the Financial Times

Posted by fidest press agency su mercoledì, 16 Maggio 2018

Eminences,Today I have read your article entitled “Rome opens its gates to the modern barbarians” and, with all due respect to a historical newspaper like yours, I have to be very honest, I think you need to better understand what is taking place in Italy and, perhaps, getting to know the 5 Star MoVement a little more closely. The last 30 years in Italy have been characterized by a constant mixture of politics, the mafia and occult affairs that have literally shattered our country to the bone, marking every negative record in our history. Today Italy suffers about 6 million people under the absolute poverty line and about 100,000 young people every year go to look for luck elsewhere, often right in your country. All this is the result of barbarians, old barbarians of whom I have never read so many negative things on your editorials as I am reading these days on us. The 5 Star Movement was born in 2009 with a specific purpose, to bring the popular will back to the center of the political debate and the decisions of the central government. In just 9 years we have grown so much that we can now touch the achievement of this goal thanks to over 11 million people who trusted us in the last elections.
We succeeded by working with our heads down, studying, always struggling in defense of Italians.
We succeeded with the younger, more educated and more gender-balanced parliamentary group that the history of Italy has ever seen.
The Italians who believed in us have always done it on these bases and on the awareness that everything we have promised or written in a program, has become a reality on the first occasion we have had to make it happen. In your article you are talking about a contract of government that is difficult to implement and economically unsustainable, a pity that you have not read this contract yet and this offends the profession of journalism. On one thing you are right, the contract we are writing is challenging and it will not be easy to remedy the damage done by 30 years of political barbarians to the government. But we are doing our best to give the Italians the hope they have lost and a better future. If you want to understand better how we will achieve this goal too, do not waste time raising false news created ad-hoc by the Italian press, come to know and report the truth. (By Five stars Luigi Di Maio)

Anti-PowerPoint-Party participates in Swiss parliamentary elections

Posted by fidest press agency su sabato, 3 ottobre 2015

Zurich Switzerland – The first global Anti-PowerPoint-Party (APPP) is an international movement with the goal to create an awareness of the PowerPoint issue among the world population. The APPP sees itself as the advocate of approximately 250 million citizens worldwide, who, evZurich_Cityery month, are obliged to be present at boring company presentations, and who have not been represented in politics until now.The movement regards the use of presentation-software, like PowerPoint, as the source of the problem. It fights against superiors dictating the use of PowerPoint and against pupils being forced to use PowerPoint. The APPP promotes free speech of live persons, respectively the alternative flip-chart that beats PowerPoint in 95% of the cases with regard to its effect.Goal of the movement is to decrease the number of boring presentations worldwide, and that those, who want to renounce PowerPoint, will not have to justify themselves in the future. It is not PowerPoint that should be abolished, but only the PowerPoint constraint. To draw worldwide attention to their cause the movement chose the organizational form of an international party in Switzerland. Here, every citizen in the world can become member of a party. The party has 3500 members already and will be participating in the Swiss parliamentary elections on October 18. Its goal is to render the PowerPoint issue a political issue that one talks widely and deeply worldwide. The APPP draws attention to business presentations, at which the participants consider their presence afterwards as futile. The Party calculated that hourly wages of the attendants alone result in suffering an annual economic damage of 350 billion Euros worldwide.

WJC Praises Scarlett Johansson, Condemns Oxfam Over Boycott Issue

Posted by fidest press agency su lunedì, 3 febbraio 2014

Scarlett_Johansson_by_Gage_SkidmoreNEW YORK — The World Jewish Congress today praised Scarlett Johansson and condemned the charity Oxfam for ending its seven-year association with actress over her defense of an Israeli company that employs Palestinian workers at a West Bank factory.“We applaud Miss Johansson for her forthright defense of economic cooperation between Israelis and Palestinians and for standing up to the international bullies. She is a role model for others confronted with insidious anti-Israel pressure, and we encourage other Hollywood, media and entertainment personalities to follow her lead,” said WJC CEO Robert Singer. “By ending its association with Miss Johansson, its longtime ambassador, Oxfam has chosen to align itself with the unprincipled and anti-Semitic BDS movement. This was a cowardly act that Oxfam should realize is a reprehensible and damaging mistake.”Oxfam parted ways with Johansson, who had been an Oxfam ambassador since 2007, after she recently became the brand ambassador of an Israel company, SodaStream. The company employs Palestinian workers at a factory in the West Bank city of Maale Adumim. Organs of the BDS movement had called on Oxfam to immediately sever its ties with Johansson. In public statements over the past week, Johansson defended SodaStream as committed to “building a bridge to peace between Israel and Palestine, supporting neighbors working alongside each other, receiving equal pay, equal benefits and equal rights” and said that she is a “supporter of economic cooperation and social interaction between a democratic Israel and Palestine.”
Yesterday, Johansson issued a statement saying she “has respectfully decided to end her ambassador role with Oxfam after eight years because “she and Oxfam have a fundamental difference of opinion in regards to the boycott, divestment and sanctions movement.”

Recent News from the Green Movement

Posted by fidest press agency su domenica, 22 gennaio 2012

Image via Wikipedia

Want to save the world? In addition to eating less meat, green campaigners now have yet another suggestion: use a smaller font size for typing on your computer. The Minus One Project encourages computer users to reduce their font size by one, thus taking a small step to save paper and thus the rainforest. As if we didn’t have enough nannying from the green movement. They want to influence what we drive, eat and now the size of font we type? The reason we use a preferred font size isn’t to save the planet, but so we can read with ease. One can only laugh at the amount of paper that will be wasted when people print off hundreds of pages only to find that the font is indecipherable. Vishal Sagar, the “brains” behind the idea, stated that he hopes “this project will inspire people to come up with more such ideas that have co-existence and sustainability at their core.” For the sake of amusement, we couldn’t agree more. The Obama administration’s energy policy – or lack thereof – has become something of a national joke. Energy prices are soaring, yet rather than embracing market solutions and encouraging more exploration, the administration is obsessed with handing out wads of cash to green energy companies. Many of these companies also happen to be owned by donors to the president. If people thought this crony capitalism was bad, it’s only getting worse. A recent report by CBS revealed “that 80 percent of the Depar tment of Energy’s $20.5 billion in green energy loans went to President Barack Obama’s fundraisers and donors.” What’s more, the administration has also funneled billions to 11 green energy companies that have “since gone bankrupt or are facing serious financial difficulty.” The American people not only can’t afford this. They simply deserve better.
Most ideas emanating from the green movement belong in the toilet, but not literally. The Center for Rural Empowerment and the Environment (CREE) has developed a new ‘eco-toilet,’ especially designed to help “benefit hippos and other wetland species.” Not only do these ‘eco-toilets’ help produce waste that “can be safely used as a fertilizer for crops,” but they also help “to alleviate human-hippo conflict, which occurs when hippos raid villagers’ crops for food.” Alleviate conflict? Does CREE have the capability to make an ‘eco-toilet’ for Greenpeace activists that will stop them from raiding private property?

The CPCE congratulates Jerzy Buzek

Posted by fidest press agency su mercoledì, 15 luglio 2009

The President of the Community of Protestant Churches in Europe (CPCE), Thomas Wipf, congratulates Jerzy Buzek on his election as President of the European Parliament today. “It is good for the EU that now for the first time a politician from the states which entered in 2004 will assume a key position in the European Union. Moreover we are delighted that in future a committed Protestant and member of a minority church will take over the presidency of the European Parliament,“ Wipf explained.  Jerzy Buzek comes from the Protestant frontier region between Poland and the Czech Republic. He was Polish Prime Minister from 1997 to 2001 and by virtue of his longstanding involvement in the Polish democracy movement enjoys great appreciation which transcends the parties. As Wipf remarks: “In view of the difficult majority relations in the newly elected European Parliament Jerzy Buzek will urgently need this power of integration.”

Stop the “Star Wars”

Posted by fidest press agency su domenica, 5 aprile 2009

The Nonviolence Movement supports Obama’s nuclear disarmament policy and asks him to stop the “Star Wars” in Eastern Europe. On the 4th and 5th of April, on the occasion of President Obama’s visit, the movement is organizing many activities to show that there is great opposition in the Czech Republic against the installation of a permanent US military base. One of those activities is a happening “The Invisibles” that will take place on Sunday morning. “The Invisibles are more than 70% of the Czech population who do not want the military radar base. The Invisibles are the 99% of the worldwide population that does not want wars and aspires to peace,” added Tamas. The Nonviolence Movement formed from the activity of a group of Czech humanists in December 2007. It aims to nonviolently oppose the US missile defense base planned to be installed in the Czech Republic. The movement gained wider recognition with the hunger strike of two of its members Jan Tamas and Jan Bednar in May 2008, the following sequential hunger strike with more than 300 participants, as well as several international conferences focused on the topic of US Missile Defense and disarmament.
