The Metropolitan Museum of Art Launches New Online Programming and Social Media Initiatives

Posted by fidest press agency su lunedì, 6 aprile 2020

New York. The Metropolitan Museum of Art announced today a lineup of newly developed content to complement its existing selection of online materials, offering audiences at home the opportunity to engage with the Museum while it is temporarily closed. #MetAnywhere already features videos, 360-degree tours, publications, and educational resources, as well as popular activities like #MetSketch on the Museum’s social media channels. The new content includes live and interactive programming, performances, and conversations with curators, educators, and artists, and will provide an opportunity for the global digital community to share important stories and the power of art and culture through the lens of The Met collection.
The new lineup will include the digital premiere of the iconic American opera The Mother of Us All, with music by Virgil Thomson and libretto by Gertrude Stein, which will stream on YouTube and The Met’s Facebook this Friday, April 3, at 7 p.m. The opera, which was performed live earlier this spring in the magnificent Charles Engelhard Court in the Museum’s American Wing, was a collaboration with The Juilliard School and the New York Philharmonic. The Mother of Us All will be screened in full. Future online performances that can be enjoyed at home will include musical evenings by the Museum’s resident quartet, ETHEL & Friends. An exclusive digital premiere of the full-length documentary Gerhard Richter Painting, directed by Corinna Belz, which was featured in the exhibition Gerhard Richter: Painting After All at The Met Breuer, will take place on Saturday, April 11, 7 p.m. on The Met’s website, where it will remain available to stream through early July. For families, continuing on a Museum tradition for over 100 years, the beloved “Storytime in Nolen Library” will be offered online on The Met’s YouTube channel and The Met’s Facebook once a week, beginning on Thursday, April 2 at noon, with reading sessions, called Storytime with The Met, led by The Met’s educators, librarians, as well as guest readers. Additionally, Microsoft Flipgrid, a social learning platform that reaches 1.7 million educators and 70 million students, features #MetKids topics that engage elementary age-classes with art in The Met collection, and will expand to other school age audiences in the coming weeks. “Conversations With” will be a new digital discussion in which Museum experts and curators converse with one another on a range of relevant topics and share in-depth reflections on art in the collection. Remote sketching and drawing classes will encourage audiences to create their own versions of Met masterpieces while being instructed by artists and educators. MetPublications will continue to regularly release out-of-print titles for free download—recent additions include “Rooms with a View: The Open Window in the Nineteenth Century” (2011), “The Tale of Genji: A Japanese Classic Illuminated” (2019), “Dawn of Egyptian Art” (2012), and “German Paintings in The Metropolitan Museum of Art, 1350-1600” (2013).The Met has launched several new social media features including #AllByYourShelf, which daily highlights a new Met publication available for free on the Museum’s website; #CuratorTag, which asks Met curators to muse on a work of art and share what’s on their minds; #CuratorChat, where followers are encouraged to submit questions on a particular topic; and #MuseumCrushMonday, spotlighting a different museum around the country each week. Over the past several weeks, The Met’s social media channels have seen a significant increase in engagement: a 95 percent increase on Instagram, 57 percent on Twitter, and 17 percent on Facebook. The Met’s homepage, which now primarily features web-based highlights, has also seen an overall increase in traffic—76.5 percent—with audiences largely engaging with the art collection pages. #MetKids videos and pages have increased 1,098 percent, and MetPublications increased 858 percent.

Grand Egyptian Museum di Giza

Posted by fidest press agency su domenica, 19 gennaio 2020

Trophy time for the champions as women debut in cliff diving finale at Guggenheim Museum Bilbao

Posted by fidest press agency su domenica, 8 settembre 2019

The art of cliff diving returns to the Basque city to crown the 2019 Red Bull Cliff Diving World Series champions while the women premiere in Spain and 2020 tickets are still up for grabs.Although the overall titles were sealed during the penultimate stop in Bosnia and Herzegovina, the pressure is high in the men’s and women’s as only the best performers will make the cut for 2020 during the year’s final aesthetic free falls from up to 27m. Record-setting champions Gary Hunt from Great Britain and Australia’s Rhiannan Iffland have their ambitious goals defined for the final showdown in front of the iconic Guggenheim Museum Bilbao, when for the first time the women will display their graceful art in front of thousands of enthusiastic fans along the Nervión river. After reeling off another record-breaking performance from the old bridge in Mostar, 4-time women’s titleholder Iffland aims for the perfect season of straight wins, while the brilliant Brit is ready for retaliation from the La Salve Bridge, a place where he has failed to win in two previous visits.
Hunt will have added support as wildcards Owen Weymouth and Aidan Heslop – the youngest ever World Series competitor – will make for a 5-diver strong Team GB including former Olympian Blake Aldridge as well as Jessica Macaulay in the women’s.
The 26-year-old Brit will try to defend her runner up position going into the season final against Belarussia’s Yana Nestsiarava and Lysanne Richard from Canada looming in third and fourth only 10 points apart from each other. In the men’s Jonathan Paredes from Mexico sits in a rather solid 2nd place, while America’s Andy Jones targets a repeat of his PB 3rd overall from 2016, when he closed the season with his debut win into the flashlights of Dubai.Through the world ranking, which considers the FINA World Cup and World Championships besides the World Series competitions, the top eight performers will secure a spot for next season. As expected, a lot of talent is pushing into the World Series and four wildcards – three women and one man – bear the chance of earning a permanent ticket from 21m and 27m.After the huge success of the final showdown in 2015, Bilbao’s La Salve Bridge will once again play host as the Red Bull Cliff Diving World Series marches towards an exciting and emotional climax, when Colombia’s cliff diving legend Orlando Duque will complete his highly successful competition career during the final stop of the year.

Apre il Museum of Literature Ireland (MoLI)

Posted by fidest press agency su sabato, 3 agosto 2019

New Exhibition in Birmingham at The Pen Museum – Black Country: The Pit to the Pen

Posted by fidest press agency su sabato, 16 settembre 2017

BIRMINGHAM, England/PRNewswire/A brand new, temporary exhibition opens in the heart of Birmingham’s Jewellery Quarter at the Pen Museum. The Pen Museum aims to preserve and promote the legacy of Birmingham’s steel pen trade which at one time provided 7Birmingham5% of the world’s pens. As part of a recent launch of new facilities and exhibition space, the museum has teamed up with local poet, Elinor Cole and Dudley Museums Service to create a new exhibition, ‘Black Country: The Pit to the Pen’. Visitors will be able to see Elinor’s poetry alongside the etchings of Solihull-born Richard Samuel Chattock whose contemporary works depicted the harsh industrial life in the 1870s Black Country, in stark contrast with many other artists of the time.Elinor Cole is a local poet whose main inspiration comes from the rich heritage of the Black Country, where she lives. Her portfolio of work focuses on the industry of the region, but the poems also touch upon the cultural aspects of the area – popular pastimes, local folklore, and the unique dialect of its people. She said of the new exhibition:”My poetry found new resonance when it was displayed beside the wonderful etchings of R. S. Chattock, whose scenes of the industrial Black Country gave a backdrop to the stories I was trying to tell. In the Pen Museum, themes of industry and art go hand-in-hand, making it the perfect place to host this exhibition.”
Anthony Hayes, Operations Manager of the Pen Museum said:”This exhibition is the perfect way to launch our new gallery space. Elinor’s poetry and the Victorian etchings really encapsulate the spirit of the Black Country and will give our visitors the chance to experience more of the Midlands’ industrial heritage.”The exhibition is on until 31/01/2018

E.sperimenti Dance Company Shanghai Premier

Posted by fidest press agency su venerdì, 15 luglio 2016

Fraunhofer technology thrills Frankfurt museum

Posted by fidest press agency su sabato, 18 ottobre 2014

Fraunhofer technologyDisasters are threatening historic cultural treasures. For the first time last week, Fraunhofer researchers automated 3D reconstruction of artifacts in the Frankfurt Liebieghaus Skulpturensammlung, making them accessible for eternity. CultLab3D, the world’s unique 3D scanning facility for cultural artifacts, was in operation inside the Medieval Room of the Frankfurt Liebieghaus Skulpturensammlung developed by Fraunhofer IGD, is to revolutionize the needed 3D digitization of cultural artifacts. The artifacts, threatened by environmental influences and disasters, are secured in their current state of preservation and at the same time are made accessible to international research. So far, this process has been very expensive and time-consuming. With CultLab3D, the Fraunhofer researchers are relying on the industrialization and automation of the entire 3D digitization process of artifacts by means of state-of-the-art scan and illumination techniques. The mobile digitization laboratory thus allows for the millions of existing artifacts to be scanned and archived in an industrial, cost-effective and fast manner. With their CultLab3D, the Fraunhofer researchers are digitizing genuine cultural artifacts for the first time in a fully automated way in Frankfurt. “In this test run, we gained a great number of very valuable insights”, says Martin Ritz of Fraunhofer IGD. “The properties of the different sculptures but also the conditions in the museum operation are providing us with some important impulses to further develop CultLab3D.” This is how the researchers managed, among other challenges, to apply the automated scanning process with industrial cameras to very dark and low-contrast objects as well. In the process, CultLab3D does not only capture geometry and texture of artifacts but also their optical material properties such as reflection and absorption behavior. This allows for a photo-realistic 3D illustration.
So far, 3D scans of art treasures have entailed laborious and cost-intensive manual labor for the most part. Due to the higher speed, the Fraunhofer researchers aim to reduce the cost of 3D scans tenfold to twentyfold. The outlook of being able to digitize entire collections in the future is very welcome to Prof. Dr. Vinzenz Brinkmann, head of the collection of antiques at the Liebieghaus Skulpturensammlung: “Whoever knows how we had to work before, will recognize the “miracle” of the scanning facility. Entirely new ways of scientific study will now open up to museums around the world.”
Fraunhofer IGD is the world’s leading institute for applied research in Visual Computing. Visual Computing is image- and model-based information technology and includes computer graphics, computer vision, as well as virtual and augmented reality. In simple terms, the Fraunhofer researchers in Darmstadt, Rostock, Graz and Singapore are turning images into information and extracting information from images. In corporation with its partners, technical solutions and marketrelevant products are created. (photo: Fraunhofer technology)

World Jewish Congress praises French, Belgian authorities for arrest of suspected Brussels Jewish museum gunman

Posted by fidest press agency su lunedì, 2 giugno 2014

sharanskyBRUSSELS/NEW YORK — The World Jewish Congress today welcomed the arrest of the suspected gunman in the May 24 shooting at the Jewish Museum of Belgium in Brussels, which killed three people and gravely injured another. “We welcome the arrest of a suspect in this heinous crime and praise the prompt work of the French and Belgian authorities,” said WJC President Ronald S. Lauder. “We have to ask, however, why such a murderous anti-Semitic attack can happen in broad daylight in a European capital, just two years after a similar attack in Toulouse, France. European governments must face the stark reality that jihadist warfare is a reality in their streets, and must train their efforts on preventing the spread of hate and apprehending terrorists before they act, rather than reacting after an incident occurs. “Governments need to engage in constructive dialogue with WJC on this and related issues,” Lauder continued. “Tomorrow, we will bring a solidarity mission to Brussels of 38 senior Jewish leaders from 16 communities, and we will take this message to the highest levels of the Belgian government.” Police in France have arrested Mehdi Nemmouche, a 29-year-old French national, who they said returned to France from Brussels via bus. Nemmouche recently spent a year in Syria and is a radicalized Islamist, the chief prosecutor of Paris said at a news conference on Sunday.

Whitney Museum and New High Line Headquarters

Posted by fidest press agency su domenica, 13 novembre 2011

Whitney Museum, New York

Image via Wikipedia

Near the High Line’s southern terminus, crews are hard at work preparing to pour the foundation for the new downtown location of the Whitney Museum of American Art, which will open in 2015. Next to the museum site, construction will soon begin on the High Line Headquarters, which will provide critical support for the maintenance and operations of the High Line. When it opens in 2015, the new Whitney museum, designed by Renzo Piano Building Workshop in partnership with Cooper, Robertson & Partners, will feature more than 50,000 square feet of gallery space, as well as outdoor exhibition spaces overlooking the High Line, a multi-use theater, and an education center for family and kid events. Currently, the corner of Gansevoort and Washington Street is active with construction crews clearing and excavating the Whitney site for work to begin on the foundations of the building in the coming months. Crews are starting to drive I-beams and heavy cylindrical steel casings deep into the ground. The casings will be filled with concrete and will become critical elements in supporting the foundations and steel structure that will follow next year. The new High Line Headquarters, designed through a collaboration between Renzo Piano Building Workshop and Beyer Blinder Belle, will be located adjacent to the new Whitney museum and the High Line. With direct access to the High Line, the new building will help us keep the park thriving by providing a home for staff and equipment, as well as a new public elevator, an information center, volunteer facilities, public bathrooms, and a public meeting room. The four-story building is designed to be a modern version of the historic warehouses that surround the High Line. The façade will feature masonry on the lower levels, and glass and steel on the upper levels. On the roof, exposed steel girders will echo the steel structure of the High Line itself. At street-level, the High Line Headquarters will extend under the park to create a restaurant with outdoor seating. The space is to be as transparent as possible. Large, operable doors will open up in good weather, letting in light and fresh air.We expect to begin construction in the coming weeks.Visit our blog to watch the museum’s preview video, view photos of construction, and learn more about the High Line Headquarters.

Pierre et GillesLe Havre until 24/1/2010 2, boulevard Clemenceau, Mesee Malraux The exhibition which is inspired by Baudelaire – the name given to the exhibit is actually a quotation from the poem entitled The Stranger from Spleen in Paris – reflects on the future of the photographic iconography of clouds, from the middle of the XIXth century to our day. Its genesis can be found in the museum’s permanent funds, with a magnificent collection of nearly 300 works by Euge’ne Boudin, of which some twenty studies of skies. The Stedelijk Museum in Amsterdam, the largest museum for modern art  and design in The Netherlands, plans to reopen in March/April 2010  with a completely renovated and spectacularly enlarged building. The  Stedelijk Museum is currently recruiting for the function of general  artistic director.  The new director will be the successor of Gijs van Tuyl, whose  contract expires on 31 December 2009. Other directors in the recent  past were: Willem Sandberg (1945-1963), Edy de Wilde (1963-1985), Wim  Beeren (1985-1993) and Rudi Fuchs (1993-2003).  The Stedelijk Museum houses a unique collection of 90.000 objects,  embracing a wide variety of disciplines: painting, sculpture, film  and video art, works on paper, artists’ books, photography, applied  arts and design. Outstanding names and movements are Breitner,  Matisse, Malevich, Mondrian, Rietveld and De Stijl, the Bauhaus,  Cobra and post-1945 American Art, with Newman, Kelly, Pollock,  Stella, Warhol and, more recent, Nauman, Kiefer, Merz and Sottsass.  The photographic collection is the oldest belonging to any museum of  modern art in Western Europe and the collection of film and video art  is similarly unique. The large and varied poster collection and the  collection of modern furniture are also world-beaters.  When the Stedelijk opens its doors in 2010, the world-class  collection will once again be exhibited in all its glory. The museum  intends to specialise in exhibitions of great international  relevance, which will serve as sources of inspiration and growth for  the collection. The museum will profile itself both as a  collection-based museum and an inspirational and trend-setting  platform for contemporary art.
