Bavarian Nordic Initiates Phase 3 Trial of Freeze-dried MVA-BN® Smallpox Vaccine

Posted by fidest press agency su venerdì, 21 giugno 2019

COPENHAGEN, Denmark, June 19, 2019 – Bavarian Nordic A/S (OMX: BAVA, OTC: BVNRY) announced today the initiation of a pivotal Phase 3 trial of the freeze-dried formulation of MVA-BN® smallpox vaccine in 1,110 healthy, vaccinia-naïve subjects. The randomized, double-blind, multicenter trial will evaluate the immunogenicity and safety of three consecutive vaccine lots of the freeze-dried formulation of MVA-BN® smallpox vaccine, similar to the prior completed Phase 3 study for the liquid-frozen MVA-BN formulation. The Biologics License Application (BLA) for the liquid frozen formulation of MVA-BN is currently under review at the FDA, with anticipated completion and licensure in the second half of 2019. Upon completion of the current study, expectedly in 2021, the Company intends to submit a supplement to the BLA to extend the approval for both formulations of MVA-BN. The requirement for only one Phase 3 study of the freeze-dried formulation was confirmed at an End-of-Phase 2 meeting with the regulatory authorities, following a prior Phase 2 study showing bioequivalence between the freeze-dried and liquid-frozen formulations of MVA-BN.
Based on the successful completion of the study and subsequent regulatory process, the Company anticipates approval of the freeze-dried vaccine in 2022.
The Phase 3 study and regulatory activities towards licensure are funded through an option valued at USD 37 million, which was exercised in November 2017 as part of the ongoing USD 539 million contract with the Biomedical Advanced Research and Development Authority (BARDA) for development and supply of freeze-dried MVA-BN to the U.S. Strategic National Stockpile.

Nordic capital regions top the ranking, while innovation divide remains a concern

Posted by fidest press agency su giovedì, 20 giugno 2019

Helsinki-Uusimaa in Finland, Stockholm Region in Sweden and Copenhagen Region (Hovedstaden) in Denmark are the three most innovative regions in the EU, according to the European Commission’s Regional Innovation Scoreboard 2019 published on Monday. The scoreboard demonstrates some convergence in regional performance with decreasing performance differences between most EU regions, although the gap to the most modest performers has grown.Markku Markkula, First Vice-President of the European Committee of the Regions and the Chair of the Regional Board of Helsinki-Uusimaa, stated: “The European Commission’s 2019 European Innovation Scoreboard and Regional Innovation Scoreboard show that the EU’s innovation performance has been improving for four years in a row. This has also been the case for most EU regions, of which 159 out of 238 have increased their performance over the last eight years. I’m delighted to see my region, Helsinki-Uusimaa, emerge on the top of the ranking ahead of our Scandinavian neighbours from Stockholm and Copenhagen regions.” “However, while the European Commission report highlights decreasing performance gaps between leading, strong and moderate innovators, at the same time some EU regions are lagging even further behind. Those regions that often suffer from brain drain and ageing population need support to develop adequate research infrastructures and to renew their research and scientific human potential locally. We need stronger partnerships between the leading innovation regions and others, including inside each Member State and between regions throughout Europe. Moreover, through clearer and more accessible rules for the Horizon Europe programme the EU can facilitate fair and transparent participation and distribute excellence more equally across Europe as a whole”, Markkula stressed.
“Europe needs to more investment and forerunners to become a global leader. As an example, the implementation of the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals can only be speeded up through effective partnerships using EU financing instruments along with private investors”, Markkula concluded.Members of the European Committee of the Regions will debate on the localisation of the Sustainable Development Goals with Jyrki Katainen, European Commission’s Vice-President for Jobs, Growth, Investment and Competitiveness, at next week’s plenary session on 26 June.

Posted by fidest press agency su martedì, 24 febbraio 2015

mySelfieFinnish Nordic Sparkle launched a crowdfunding campaign on FundedByMe on Friday 13th of February to raise 60.000€ to expand in China. Campaign has had an excellent start, only after few days 39% of the target has been achieved. To get to China market, Nordic Sparkle has also received funding from Tekes, Finnish Funding Agency for Innovation. mySelfie is an avatar app targeted for fun-loving teens who share their selfies in social media. With the app you can create your cartoon, style it, share it and have it on your iPhone case.
– Product is ready and tested, and it has what it takes to be the coolest accessory globally, says Heini Saari, Head of Marketing & Sales at Nordic Sparkle. – There is no such concept on market that would combine smartphone cases with social media. Large target group is willing to spend money on mobile phone accessories, and smartphone case market is still expected to grow during the next five years. With the social aspect the product is expecting huge organic growth since it is also designed to be shared in social media.
– We want to start the production and sales in China in November 2015, says Heini Saari. Custom case production is now ready for shipping in Europe, and app from the Finnish company will be first launched in Western Europe. (Photo: mySelfie)
