Clovis Oncology Announces Positive Outcome in European Opposition Proceeding Related to Rubraca

Posted by fidest press agency su venerdì, 7 dicembre 2018

Clovis Oncology, Inc. (NASDAQ:CLVS) announced today after opposition proceedings at The Hague, Netherlands, that the European Patent Office upheld claims of European Patent 2534153 in amended form covering certain crystalline forms of rucaparib camsylate, including rucaparib S-camsylate Form A, the crystalline form in Rubraca. In its oral decision announced at the hearing, the Opposition Division upheld claims, narrowed from the originally granted patent, to certain crystalline forms of rucaparib camsylate. These forms include, but are not limited to, the commercial product. The European Opposition Division found patentability of the claimed forms based on the inventiveness of these crystalline forms and a constellation of unexpected properties. The European patent was opposed by two opponents. Clovis and/or either opponent have an opportunity to appeal the decision of the European Opposition Division within two months of the written decision, which is expected in the next few months. If appealed, all claims in the originally granted patent will remain in force until the Technical Board of Appeal issues its decision. In addition to the rucaparib camsylate patent protection through at least 2031 confirmed today, the commercial form of Rubraca is also entitled to European regulatory exclusivity until at least 2028 (and 2029 if an indication in a second tumor type is approved). Also, Clovis has filed for supplementary protection certificate (SPC) extension on this rucaparib camsylate patent in various European countries, which if approved, would provide extension of protection until 2033 under this patent.“We are very pleased with the outcome of the opposition proceedings today, but more importantly, we are gratified that the European Patent Office acknowledged the innovation behind this invention and upheld robust patent protection for Rubraca in Europe,” said Patrick J. Mahaffy, President and CEO of Clovis Oncology. “This patent represents an important component of the intellectual property for Rubraca and we are happy that the Opposition Division upheld the relevant claims of the patent that cover the commercial form of Rubraca as well as other forms of rucaparib camsylate. We look forward to commercializing Rubraca in Europe and with this outcome, we are well-positioned to do so for a very long time.”

France: A hotbed of opposition to the TTIP?

Posted by fidest press agency su giovedì, 11 giugno 2015

Parigi torre-eiffel1In was initially expected for opposition to TTIP to come primarily from France, where public opinion is traditionally wary of trade liberalisation. But Germany has become the leading voice in opposition, while French public opinion teetered around a 50% approval rating in Novembre 2014. Attention has nevertheless been brought to the possibility that this anti-TTIP dynamic might be transmitted to neighbouring France. In this Policy paper, published in partnership with the German Council on Foreign Relations (DGAP), Elvire Fabry, senior research fellow at the Jacques Delors Institute, analyses the evolution of the French debate on TTIP since the launch of negotiations two years ago in July 2013, until its most recent developments.
1. Up until the summer of 2014, the debate has been dominated by minor parties and civil society. Defence of TTIP was done discreetly while the undecided camp, which formed the majority, has become more and more sceptical over time.
2. While the government has displayed a great deal of caution over the matter, the inclusion of a mechanism for regulating disputes between investors and states (ISDS) has since become a catalyst for cross-partisan opposition.
3. This prudence on the part of the government may not be enough to contain the opposition to TTIP as the agreement looms ever closer. With a general French malaise when it comes to globalisation and a traditional mistrust of the United States, TTIP may become a thorny issue on the road to the presidential elections in 2017. Tripoli, Libya – Rebel forces took control of the capital, further challenging Col. Muammar el-Gaddafi’s four-decade hold on the country.
• Rebels arrested two of Gaddafi’s sons on Monday. Gaddafi’s whereabouts remain unknown.
• Citizens demanding Gaddafi’s exit gathered at Green Square in Tripoli and took to the streets of Benghazi in celebration of their advancement in the fight.
• Heavy clashes between rebels and pro-Gaddafi supporters continue throughout Libya.
• Protests first erupted in Libya in mid-February when Gaddafi loyalists and troops attacked peaceful demonstrators. Many Libyans were inspired by the revolts for democracy in Egypt and Tunisia, and called for Gaddafi’s removal from power.

For Israel’s accession today

Posted by fidest press agency su martedì, 11 maggio 2010

Paris  Renowned public figures have launched an urgent appeal to countries of the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) due to vote for Israel’s accession today. The figures, who include a former vice-President of the European Parliament, a former French ambassador and a Nobel Peace Prize Laureate, are calling for a delay in the process until Israel fulfills its obligations towards Palestinians under international law and abides fully with the OECD foundational principles and benchmarks. Public opposition to Israel’s acceptance into the OECD has been growing louder in the weeks leading up to the vote. French activists staged a sit-in at the lobby of OECD last Thursday, as member-countries discussed Israel’s accession. A petition was delivered to General-Secretary Angel Gurría, signed by concerned citizens from all thirty OECD member countries. Civil society groups scheduled a press conference for Monday, 6:30pm at the entrance of the OECD HQ in Paris. The statement echoes a widespread belief that the OECD is faced with two choices, “either reward Israel for its occupation of Palestinian lands and human rights abuses or send a signal that it must first abide by international law before gaining such a privilege.” In addition, serious legal problems with state obligations under International Humanitarian Law and Geneva IV Conventions have emerged for OECD member states from the way in which they have been planning to accept Israel, including its illegal settlements in the occupied Palestinian West Bank. These significant challenges have been raised to the OECD by prominent legal experts from Oxford University.

Albanian opposition

Posted by fidest press agency su domenica, 2 maggio 2010

Tirana, Albania (MMD Newswire) Today the Albanian opposition held the largest protest ever organized during the post-Communist transition of Albania. In excess of 200,000 people heeded the call of the Socialist led opposition and came out in the streets of Tirana demanding full and thorough transparency of the elections of June 2009. The leader of the Socialist Party Edi Rama addressed the protesters and thanked them for their overwhelming support. He declared that Albania finds itself at a crossroads and that the opposition is determined to persist in its resistance. Open the ballot boxes, not so that the people understand that you have stolen their votes. Albanians understood this at the very moment when you decided to seal the ballot boxes by force because of your terror that the votes you robbed would come to light for all to see. Brothers and sisters let us resists in this boulevard of the Martyrs of the Nation and everywhere else, all over Albania, each according to his or her means, until the ballot boxes are opened, so that we can save our democracy and our future by saving the fate of the elections from the claws of the government. This is a difficult battle in the name of great aspirations but we shall be ready to face this battle no matter how high the sacrifices.” A few hours after the beginning of the protest Socialist MP Fatmir Xhafaj declared that the Socialist Parliamentary group and a large group of supporters had decided to go on a hunger strike until the demand for full transparency is met. 22 Socialist MPs and 180 supporters have joined in a camp build in front of the Prime Minister’s office, in Tirana’s Martyrs of the Nation boulevard. Below is an excerpt from Xhafaj’s speech. “Today the Albanian people bore witness to the greatest manifestation ever held in Albania in the last 20 years. It was a humbling manifestation, in which more than 200,000 Albanians protested in the name of a fundamental principle of any democracy: the transparency of the votes! Not so that we can change the outcome of the elections of June 28th but so that we can have a guarantee that the next elections the will of the people will be respected and every vote will be counted fairly. The resistance will take place here, where we stand, and not one of us is going to walk away from here unless our legitimate demand for the opening of the ballot boxes and the achievement of the transparency of the elections are fulfilled. Our demand is simple and clear: Open the ballot boxes in order to achieve the transparency of the elections of June 28th. In the name of this demand, which is moral, legal and constitutional, there will be no hesitation, but only peaceful resistance.”
