Posted by fidest press agency su venerdì, 10 novembre 2017

MedESS is a non-profit NGO created by two SSE major groups in France: Macif and Crédit Coopératif. Its main objective is to promote SSE values and activities in the countries boarding the Mediterranean Sea (Europe and Maghreb + Lebanon & Egypt). Members of MedESS are convinced that SSE could complement solutions of mainstream economy through job creation and establishment of a common SSE legal framework. MedESS has strong ties with SSE networks and actors in both shores of the Mediterranean region.

HighLife Closes €12.3 Million Financing Round Led by Sofinnova Partners

Posted by fidest press agency su martedì, 31 ottobre 2017

parisParis. ighLife SAS, an early-stage medtech company focused on the development of a unique trans-catheter mitral valve replacement (TMVR) system to treat patients suffering from mitral regurgitation, announced today the closing of a €12.3 million investment round led by Sofinnova Partners which becomes the main investor in the company. HighLife had previously secured financing from LivaNova PLC, which also participated in this financing round along with Georg Börtlein, the CEO and founder of HighLife.
Based in Paris, HighLife was started in 2010 by Georg Börtlein, who was previously a co-founder with Professor Jacques Séguin and Chief Operating Officer at CoreValve Inc., a pioneer in the development of trans-catheter aortic valve implantation supported early on by Sofinnova Partners until the sale to Medtronic in 2009 for more than $700 million.“We are excited to invest in HighLife and believe that their unique trans-septal approach is the next innovative disruption in trans-catheter valve technologies,” said Antoine Papiernik, Managing Partner of Sofinnova Partners, “We are also happy to partner with Georg Börtlein for the second time and confident that HighLife’s technology represents the next-generation TMVR product needed to reach meaningful clinical adoption.”“This investment enables us to implement our aggressive development plan and move forward with both our ongoing clinical programs and our R&D pipeline. We are currently recruiting patients in several European countries including France and Germany and are now planning to accelerate the enrollment of this initial clinical phase,” said Georg Börtlein. The HighLife technology relies on the initial placement of a ring component around the native mitral leaflets in a reversible manner. Once this first component’s position is confirmed, the bioprosthesis is delivered within minutes through the ring and finds its natural position inside the native annulus regardless of the access site. This approach allows for trans-septal access and delivery of the bioprosthesis after navigating up the femoral vein and reaching the native mitral valve via a puncture through the inter-atrial septum. Such route alleviates the need for a trans-apical puncture in the weakened heart muscle and is favored by physicians because further trauma to the patients is avoided.

Christie’s: The Alberto Pinto Collection for sale in Paris

Posted by fidest press agency su martedì, 11 luglio 2017

Pinto CollectionParis 9 avenue Matignon Christie’s France announces the sale of the collection of Alberto Pinto (1943–2012), unique elements from his Parisian apartment, which will take place in Paris on 12, 13 and 14 September during the Biennale des Antiquaires. After having studied at the École du Louvre in Paris, Alberto Pinto set off for New York City where he created a photo agency specialising in architecture and decoration. Over several years Alberto developed his taste for interior design, notably when he had the chance to do photo shoots for Condé Nast. At the end of the 1960’s, Alberto Pinto personally designed the interior of his own New York apartment. A rush of requests to do others follows, leding him to create his interior design firm in Paris in 1968, where, according to him, you can find the most skillful and talented artisans and craftsmen. As a master designer and interior decorator, Alberto Pinto was able to take the eclectic taste of his international clientele and adjusts each decor to their individual desires. The elegance and balance present in each of his luxurious creations, whether they are classic, modern, intimate or sumptuous, made him one of the most sought after interior designers since the beginning of the 1980’s.Following Alberto’s passing in 2012, his sister Linda, having always worked at his side, naturally took over the full management of Alberto Pinto Interior Design.
Alberto Pinto was a passionate collector. He was continuously buying from auction houses, from Pinto Collection1galleries, at important international art fairs such as the Biennale or Maastricht. He would buy collectibles and decorative art pieces that he either kept or carefully placed in different settings, giving a freshness to the lived-in homes of his clients. This signature touch, undoubtedly unique in the world of decoration, was one of the keys to his immense success.
The 1,000 lots, presented by Christie’s across two catalogues, reflect the celebrated decorator’s passion for a range of periods and styles, from the Renaissance to contemporary art. The collection includes an array of tableware, silverware, European and Asian porcelain, linen, of which Pinto was undoubtedly one of the greatest Parisian collectors, but also statuary, impressionist and contemporary art, classic furniture, and design, including three major pieces by Claude Lalanne. This auction is a real tribute to the eclectic taste of Alberto Pinto and to his lifestyle, his love of rare and original objects, and as a decorator with an immense talent.Linda Pinto about her brother: “He was a passionate collector, following all the sales, visiting antique dealers, art fairs and exhibitions. This was, in addition to his work and his Art de recevoir, his great passion.
I decided to entrust Christie’s with this sale. I love the idea that people can treat themselves with a piece of Alberto’s world, his universe”. (photo: Pinto Collection)

Moderation by Nora Hamadi, Journalist Public Sénat Gaëtane RICARD-NIHOUL, Chef adjoint de la Représentation en France de la Commission européenne, Daniel LEBEGUE, President of Transparency International France The “democratic deficit” of the European Union is a hackney catch all term well known to the disdainers and skeptics of the European construction and as well to some promoters of more transparent and participatory EU, partisans of direct elections for all institutions or of simplification relations between institutions. At a time when the democratic fracture between the EU and its peoples is being denounced as one of the main factors in the breakdown of the European project, it is necessary to shed full light on the debates surrounding many of the democratic features of this hybrid construction, which sometimes struggles to be described as representative of and listening to its citizens.Would the EU be more democratic with a directly elected European Commission President? Should the right of legislative initiative be expanded? How can we take into account the results of national referenda without denying democracy in the neighboring countries? Can intergovernmental methods be democratic? How can citizens be empowered to participate in a more democratic construction of the EU ? Does the democratic divide exist only between “Brussels” and the populations, or between the Europeans themselves?s part of the project “More Europe to overcome the crisis”, The Jacques Delors Institute, in partnership with the Sant’Anna College of Pisa, the University Institute for European Studies in Madrid, the Faculty of Lisbon NOVA and the University of Warsaw, is organizing a day of debate in order to provide constructive insights into these issues and draw concrete proposals for improvement.

Posted by fidest press agency su venerdì, 17 marzo 2017

Its celebrated provenance and the pristine quality of its works have attracted bidders from 19 countries across five continents, establishing once again Christie’s France’s leadership in selling collections with success”.Connoisseurs, collectors and institutions, such as the Sèvres museum (lot 145) and the Lyndhurst museum –Anna Gould’s childhood home in the state of New York (lots 2, 6, 10 and 16)–, have acquired 96% of the sale, demonstrating continued interest in high quality 18th century pieces. The Palais Rose’s famous Boulle furniture achieved strong prices, as illustrated by the Louis XVI pair of meubles-à-hauteur-d’appui by Etienne Levasseur and Adam Weisweiler which sold for €818,500 (lot 132) and the Louis XIV console attributed to André-Charles Boulle sold for €506,500 (lot 140). Important decorative art from the period also performed very well, as shown by the Sèvres porcelain “vases” which realised €206,500 against a presale estimate of €80,000-120,000 (lot 52) and a George III clock attributed to James Cox achieved €290,500 (lot 89).Art Déco works by Cartier where among the highlights of the sale, as the Mystery Clock achieved €686,500 against a presale estimate of €150,000-200,000 (lot 18) and the ‘Jardin Japonais’ desk set achieved €1.118.500 (lot 19), a new record for an object by Cartier sold at auction. Finally, leading the sale was the magnificent view of the Piazza San Marco, with the basilica and the campanile by Francesco Guardi (lot 46), for which determined bidding resulted in a total of €6,738,500 / £5,829,476 / $7,158,309, making it the highest price achieved by far for an old master painting sold at auction in France over the past two decades.(photo: Boni De Castellane)

Collection of Mr. Werner Bokelberg

Posted by fidest press agency su venerdì, 11 novembre 2016

painterParis Christie’s Paris is pleased to announce the sale of the prestigious collection of Mr. Werner Bokelberg on December 5, a day that will mark the 250th anniversary of James Christie’s first auction in 1766. This renowned collection comprises 113 highly desirable livres d’artistes.Werner Bokelberg is a German photographer who has specialised in fashion and celebrities. He was very young when in 1965 Stern magazine commissioned from him a reportage on Salvador Dalí. Bokelberg spent a week at the painter’s house in Port Lligat, where he immortalized in photography some of the artist’s surrealist performances. By this time Bokelberg had already begun to collect photography and had formed an important collection of daguerreotypes and gelatin silver prints. His passion for photography was just one manifestation of the importance he attached to visual imagery: a passion for livres d’artistes was a natural complement. (photo: painter)

New EWG study: Germany falls behind on its climate targets Zero-carbon economy needed to meet Paris Agreement

Posted by fidest press agency su lunedì, 7 novembre 2016

berlinoBerlin – Germany’s current climate targets are too weak and fall short of meeting the Paris Climate Agreement. Meanwhile, the German government is on track to missing even these weak climate targets, a new study by the Energy Watch Group and the Association for the Study of Peak Oil and Gas (ASPO) Germany shows. The Paris Agreement is entering into force today. Yet, the former climate leader Germany is most likely to take off to the world climate conference COP22 in Marrakesh without a Climate Action Plan in place – and is turning into a climate sinner.“The federal government needs to completely rewrite its Energy Concept and climate targets. The greenhouse gas emission reduction target of 80-95% by 2050 compared to 1990 levels is inadequate to meet the Paris targets”, Hans-Josef Fell, co-author of the study, President of the Energy Watch Group, and Member of the German Parliament 1998-2013 says.
“Current climate protection measures do not bring about any significant emissions reduction. Global temperature is increasing at unprecedented speed. Given the consequences we already observe today, any further increase of global temperatures – 1.5°C or less – should be unacceptable. The target should be a cooling to preindustrial levels”, Fell adds.
The new study ‘German Climate Policy – From Leader to Laggard’ proves that the emissions reduction pathway in Germany has been surpassed every year since 2010. Especially the transport, electricity and agricultural sectors have contributed to this transgression. According to the government projections, in its most ambitious scenario, the transport sector for example will exceed the set 2035 targets by a striking 91%.“The emissions reduction pathway from 2010 was already exceeded years ago. With the new more ambitious targets of the Paris Agreement in place, additional and stronger measures are now needed. The aim should be a zero-carbon economy by 2030”, Jörn Schwarz, author of the study and chairman of ASPO Germany says.
A global zero-carbon economy should go hand in hand with the creation of effective carbon sinks and requires a range of measures on the policy and technical level. The study shows that 100% renewable energy as well as a functioning circular economy is essential. The study authors recommend including climate protection into the constitution; creating incentives for private investments into climate change protection; and promoting research and education in this field.
“This study clearly shows that the current German energy policy removes any possibility to meet the Paris climate targets. Compared to the ambitious measures of other countries, Germany is increasingly lagging behind on its climate protection action. The federal government is jeopardizing the livelihoods of current and future generations, and the competitive advantage of the country“, Dr. Volker Quaschning, Professor for regenerative energy systems at HTW Berlin, and peer reviewer of the study says. The study is currently only available in German. You can find it here.

Paris Agreement spells the end of the fossil fuel era

Posted by fidest press agency su venerdì, 4 novembre 2016

Amsterdam. As the Paris agreement comes into force tomorrow, setting an irreversible trajectory towards the complete phase out of fossil fuels, Greenpeace International Executive Director, Jennifer Morgan, said:“By governments committing to the Paris agreement they have underscored the inevitable global transition away from fossil fuels. With renewable energy already winning markets from fossil fuels and coal heading into amsterdamterminal decline we have good reasons to be optimistic, but it will take even more innovation and civic support before we can uncork the champagne. We need to see governments’ national plans be much more ambitious in cutting emissions, because their current contributions to this agreement are nowhere near enough to achieve its goals. We expect that in the next couple of weeks, at the Marrakech climate talks, governments will start addressing this dangerous gap with the urgency our planet requires.”Commenting on the UNEP Emissions Gap report 2016, Morgan added:“We’re entering the crucial years in our fight against climate chaos when we can still tackle climate change with clean, safe and smart solutions that are proven, ready to roll out and come with absolute benefits to our health, jobs and to the environment. If we miss this window because we’re stuck with weak national targets, it will quickly close and we’ll be left with big costs, big risks and big question marks. The only choice is to act now.”

Christie’s Paris presents photographs sales of november 2016

Posted by fidest press agency su martedì, 4 ottobre 2016

eugène atget.pngParis November 10 – Photographs, Including The collection of AndrÉ Derain. November 12 – Photographs Collection Claude Berri. Photographs Collection Claude Berri Saturday 12 November at 3pm Viewing: Saturday 5, Monday 7, Tuesday 8, Wednesday 9, Thursday 10, Friday 11 (10am-6pm) and Saturday 12 (10am-noon) Christie’s: 9, avenue Matignon.
When Paris becomes the capital for photography each November during the International Paris Photo fair, Christie’s fits its auction calendar to offer high-end photographs to collectors. This November, Christie’s Paris will present two important sales of photography. On the 10th, the Autumn Photographs Parisian sale will feature 123 lots estimated at €2,2-3,2, spanning mid-19th century works to contemporary images. The sale is highlighted by André Derain’s collection of photographs by Eugène Atget and a unique album by Amélie Guillot-Saguez. On the 12th, Christie’s is pleased to present Claude Berri’s collection of 69 photographs, estimated at €1,2-1,8M.
November 10 – Photographs, Including The collection of AndrÉ Derain
The auction covers photography from its early age to our contemporary days, with works from 1842 to 2010, bringing together some of the greatest photographers. Each artist’s works stands out either by its subject, icon, provenance or quality. From Girault de Prangey, Amélie Guillot-Saguez, Eugène Atget to Man Ray, Henri Cartier-Bresson, Helmut Newton, Irving Penn, Hiroshi Sugimoto and Nick Brandt, the sale features a beautiful portfolio of photography’s history.
André Derain’s collection of photographs by Eugène Atget comes directly from Derain’s heirs and comes to the auction market for the first time. In total, the 53 works –including 47 by Atget– are estimated at approximately €800,000. The collection features Atget’s favourite subjects such as small traders, luxuriant gardens, shop windows, empty streets and old buildings’ facades; subjects that have made him famous. When Atget begun capturing these scenes, fame was however not the objective as he started as a salesperson, providing documents to Paris’ artists. It was notably the case of André Derain, even if they knew each other well. In some of Derain’s work, the inspiration from Atget’s photographs is obvious. Amongst the first collectors of works by Eugène Atget, were Maurice Utrillo, George Braque, Pablo Picasso, Man Ray and André Derain. With the poetry and mystery of Atget’s photographs, the Surrealists of the 1920 declared him as founder of modern photography. Another highlight of the sale is a rare and previously album containing 37 photographs by Amélie Guillot-Christie's ParisSaguez (1810-1864). The discovery of this album is major for photography’s history and confirms that Amélie Guillot-Saguez was one of, if not the first, French female photographer at the time. She was an artist who married Doctor Guillot, a physicist and chemist, and together they worked on improving the photographic process of the calotype. In 1847, the couple left France for Italy, where she started producing her first calotypes, in Rome and Naples. The 37 views gathered in this album are from this period (estimate: €200,000-300,000).
Alongside of these 19th century masterpieces, a beautiful selection of early and mid-20th century by the greatest names will be featured. It includes Man Ray and Marcel Duchamp, Henri Cartier-Bresson, Brassaï. Irving Penn, Helmut Newton, Diane Arbus, Hiroshi Sugimoto and Thomas Struth will also be represented.Amongst the contemporary photographers, works by Nobuyoshi Araki, Philip Lorca di Corcia and Nick Brandt.
November 12 – Photographs Collection Claude Berri. In addition to the modern and contemporary art sale on October 22, Claude Berri’s passion for photography will be presented in a dedicated auction on Saturday 12 November. It includes 69 works estimated at approximately €1,2M, mainly focusing on the 1930s and contemporary photography.
Elodie Morel, Head of Paris Photography department, adds: “The works that Claude Berri has cautiously chosen constitute a coherent and selective collection. His interest in the beginning of photography to contemporary creations make this auction a great journey throughout photography’s history. We are very proud to present this auction, and hope that collectors will be as enthusiast as we are”.
The French director begun building his collection by acquiring works by Eugène Atget and André Brassaï of which the collection includes prints from his famous graffiti series. From the 1950s, Berri was very fond of Paul Strand of whom two photographs are featured in the sale (each estimated at €20,000-30,000).
The contemporary section will feature large formats by Luc Delahaye that were originally exhibited at the Maison Rouge in 2005. It will also include an important photograph by Jeff Wall in a lightbox (estimated at €300,000-500,000), large prints by Hiroshi Sugimoto that Claude Berri had included in an exhibition at his Renn Espace in 1995-1996 and 1999, next to works by Alexander Rodchenko such as Ball Bearing Plant, Moscow, 1932 (estimated at €50,000 – 70,000) and Raoul Ubac (estimated at €25,000-35,000). Most of the photos of the collection were exhibited in 2003 at the Archevêché and Cloître Saint-Trophisme during the Arles International Photography Festival.
