Participants of the 68th Lindau Meeting

Posted by fidest press agency su giovedì, 1 marzo 2018

The evaluation process has been completed: 600 young scientists from 84 nations have been selected to participate in the 68th Lindau Nobel Laureate Meeting dedicated to physiology and medicine (LiNo18). At the Lindau Meeting, taking place 24–29 June 2018, they will meet 42 Nobel Laureates and recipient of the ACM A.M. Turing Award Leslie Valiant. The full list of participating Nobel Laureates has just been released. They include newly minted Nobel Laureates in Physiology or Medicine Michael Rosbash and Michael Young, who were honoured for their research on the circadian clock, as well as Nobel Laureate in Chemistry 2017 Joachim Frank. In addition to the inner clock, key topics of this year’s Lindau Meeting will include the role of science in a ‘post-factual era’, genetic engineering and issues around scientific publishing practices. Does the life science community need to change the way research contributions are evaluated?

The Augmentation of Female Influence in the Automotive Industry

Posted by fidest press agency su mercoledì, 22 ottobre 2014

milanoMILAN. Latest research reveals that women are progressively dominating the car-buying process. With an increase in licences issued to women, there are now more women than men on the road in the United States, a trend that is also being forecasted for Europe. However, 50% of women globally are dissatisfied with their vehicles, while 74% of women feel they are misunderstood by car manufacturers. Frost & Sullivan’s upcoming analyst briefing will address what this growth in power for female car customers means, an understanding of its immense potential, and how industry players should respond. The briefing will benefit Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEMs) who are eager to learn about key global statistics on women driving and vehicle purchasing, participants along the entire automotive value chain, as well as automotive suppliers and retailers. The briefing will discuss the impact of the female consumer on the automotive industry, in addition to the identification of prospective technology trends and the inherent market and business opportunities created by the rising power of the female consumer. Key questions such as, What do women want in a car?, and What does female empowerment mean for the automotive industry?, will be heeded by Frost & Sullivan Visionary Innovation Senior Consultant Olivia Price-Walker and Frost & Sullivan Automotive & Transportation Vice President Lisa Whalen on October 21, 2014. Women are set to become a larger and more influential consumer segment than men, driving OEMs to launch specific models targeting women. “As women become the dominant car buying segment, auto makers and suppliers need to change their product development strategy”, advises Olivia Price-Walker, Frost & Sullivan Visionary Innovation Senior Consultant. “The rise of the female car purchaser is impacting OEM strategy and broadening some car categories. We believe OEMs will win by developing products and strategies that are directed at women.” As a matter of fact, OEMs like Nissan, Ford, and Volkswagen have already begun aiming new vehicle models at women. Smaller city cars started the trend followed by traditionally male categories such as luxury and SUVs. Simultaneously, OEMs are reacting to the global mega trend for health and fitness, by equipping vehicles with climate control systems for fine dust and ionising systems to filter out viruses and spores, high quality interior panelling, and ergonomic seating.

Ethernet to Tap New Synergies for Connected Cars, Finds Frost & Sullivan

Posted by fidest press agency su martedì, 30 luglio 2013

London, UK The need to integrate multiple consumer electronic devices into the car offering connected services and maintaining brand identity has led to a situation where original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) are shifting toward higher connectivity options, which could power prioritised and personalised services, catering to varied consumer needs. With the paradigm shift toward connected cars and associated services such as automotive-app stores and connected location based services, there is an ever-increasing need for higher data transfer bandwidths. Ethernet could serve as the backbone to the electronic architecture connecting domains and sub networks that require higher bandwidth and also cater to consumers’ need for connectivity.Frost & Sullivan (www.automotive.frost.com) estimates that the total number of Ethernet ports globally will reach 300 million by 2020. The number of nodes or ports is expected to range from more than 100 in luxury cars, 50–60 in mass market segment cars, and less than 10 nodes in entry level cars by 2020.“Ethernet could be the catalyst for bringing the automotive industry a step closer to connected vehicles,” says Frost & Sullivan Senior Research Analyst, Divya Krishnamurthy. “With its capability to simplify the networking architecture, higher uptake rates are expected in the near future.”The growth of electronics and growing number of control units has led to a complex EE architecture. Connectivity of sub networks and communication of control units require higher bandwidths. Car networks such as LIN, CAN, and FlexRay are not specified to cover the increasing demands for bandwidth and scalability. The bandwidth requirement for in-vehicle electronic applications, such as camera-assisted parking with advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS), lane departure warning systems, collision avoidance systems, and traffic light recognition is higher, in the range over 100Mbps. The number of nodes to be connected therefore is also higher. Most importantly, proven IP-based Ethernet technology enables OEMs to use a single-network platform by significantly reducing the connectivity cost and cabling weight. It is scalable and flexible enough to be used in multiple vehicle segments.
BMW AG, in partnership with Freescale Semiconductor, Inc., will be the first OEM to commercialise the Ethernet for a 360-degree camera parking assist system for its X5, later in 2013. The German carmaker is expected to offer the same for other models in the future. Hyundai Motor Company is using Broadcom Corporation’s BroadR-Reach Ethernet technology to offer next-gen connected infotainment systems. Fiat Group Automobiles S.P.A has also signed a joint venture with Continental AG for its 500L model to bring in the Continental Infotainment System, which can be used as an advanced multimedia system.
Frost & Sullivan is currently working on a study focussing on Market Trends and Technical Developments Surrounding the Ethernet and In-vehicle Connectivity in Europe and North America. If you are interested in any further information on the research or would like to speak to Miss Krishnamurthy directly, please send an email to Katja Feick, Corporate Communications, at katja.feick@frost.com, with your full contact details.

Aggression on the Freedom Flotilla

Posted by fidest press agency su lunedì, 7 giugno 2010

Gaza Strip  The free Palestinian youth groups from accross the political and social spectrum denounce the military operations by the Israeli occupation army against the Freedom Flotilla in international waters, which caused tens of civilian activists to be killed and wounded. In a statement issued on Monday, the Palestinian youth has expressed grave concern due to the ongoing military operations against international solidarity groups, stressing that this is a flagrant war crime against civilians, whose perpetrators must be stopped, condemned and punished. Palestinian youth in Gaza, West bank, diaspora and Palestinian occupied territories demand that Israeli occupation forces stop military operations and release all participants in the relief operations in solidarity with the besieged Gazans. We stress that this uprising is part of a series of actions against Israeli racist attitudes towards any peace or support process, and we hold Israel accountable for all of its aggressive actions. The majority of Palestinians in Gaza are under 18, the age people become old enough to understand the injustice of the oppression, the age people become most disillusioned with so few opportunities open to them. Even for those fortunate enough to reach higher education, many are prevented from pursuing postgraduate and undergraduate degrees abroad due to the constraints on people leaving and entering the Strip. In all of the 35 academic institutions in Gaza, there is a shortage of books, educational material and stationary, as these are specific items along with concrete, toys, pasta and chocolate forbidden entry by Israel. We call on the international community to take serious steps against Israeli violations and suspend arms supply and military equipment being used by the Israeli occupation army to kill and injure people of different nationalities, and the Palestinians in particular. We also call upon all freedom-loving people and supporters of justice in the world to protest and condemn this crime, and continue siege-breaking campaigns until the siege is permantly lifted.
