“Unequivocal support” for the people of Bulgaria in their legitimate demands

Posted by fidest press agency su domenica, 4 ottobre 2020

The Civil Liberties Committee on Thursday called on the Bulgarian authorities to ensure EU values and the Charter of Fundamental Rights are respected. The Civil Liberties Committee approved, with 35 votes in favour, 30 against and one abstention, a draft resolution on the “significant deterioration of respect for the principles of rule of law, democracy and fundamental rights, including the independence of the judiciary, separation of powers, the fight against corruption and freedom of the media” in Bulgaria. MEPs highlight the need for the Bulgarian Government to ensure stricter control of the way EU funds are spent and to address immediately the concerns that taxpayers’ money is being used to enrich those associated with the ruling party. The text focuses also on persisting systemic issues in the judiciary, especially the lack of a framework in place to hold the Supreme Judicial Council and the Prosecutor General accountable and the failure to comply with over 45 European Court of Human Rights judgments by carrying out effective investigations.MEPs are further concerned about a series of developments, including: • the announced constitutional reform, which should be preceded by proper consultations and be in line with international standards • potential changes in electoral legislation, close to the next parliamentary elections • the hasty adoption of legislation by the governing majority • investigations into high-level corruption not yielding tangible results and “corruption, inefficiency, and a lack of accountability” • the serious deterioration of media freedom and working conditions for journalists in Bulgaria over the past decade • allegations against the Bulgarian police regarding the use of force against women and children and journalists during demonstrations • the state of fundamental rights in Bulgaria, e.g. as regards hate speech, gender and sexual discrimination, and the rights of Romani people and asylum seekers. “European law matters; the rule of law matters. The rule of law is linked with defending the interests of the EU and fighting against corruption. Mapping corruption shows clearly that member states with structural deficiencies on rule of law are those most prone to resort to corrupt practices when managing EU budget and funds. That has to come to an end”, said rapporteur Juan Fernando López Aguilar (S&D, ES).The resolution is set to be voted on by the full house on 8 October.

Face Time: People in Art through the Ages. An Evolution of the Human Image

Posted by fidest press agency su giovedì, 4 giugno 2020

London 2 – 23 June 2020 Online. Christie’s announces the online sale Face Time: People in Art through the Ages, a themed auction which looks at portraiture and the representation of people in art, whilst tracing the evolution of the human image from the Renaissance through to the early 20th century.Comprising 51 lots, including paintings, drawings, sculpture and portrait miniatures, works range in estimates from £600 to £40,000. The sale not only considers portraits through time, but also across cultures. From 16th Century Italian portraiture through to album depicting minorities in China, figurative art has been a method of exploring and contrasting how people have viewed themselves and others throughout history. In the West the tradition of portraiture stretches back to the sculpture of the Greek and Roman empires. With the fall of Rome centuries followed in which figurative representation, even of specific people, became more generic, and then with the Renaissance came the resurgence of the distinctive personal likeness. This shift emerged with the revival of interest in Greco-Roman culture and a greater interest in individual identity. This is the same moment that the notion of the artist as an individual also began to solidify, an idea that gave rise to a plethora of self-portraits. If the reality of the individual is one of the essential marks of European portraiture from the 15th Century through to the present, it also ‘seeks to bring out whatever the sitter has in common with the rest of humanity’, as the great art historian Erwin Panofsky wrote. Bringing together Western and Chinese figurative art at the end of the chronological scope of Face Time highlights this commonality across cultures and peoples, a hugely important notion to maintain in today’s society.

MEP rejects General Haftar´s self-proclamation as the leader of all Libyan people

Posted by fidest press agency su sabato, 2 maggio 2020

After the Libyan military commander Khalifa Haftar declared the Libyan Political Agreement invalid on Monday, the Chair of European Parliament’s Delegation for relations with Maghreb countries (DMAG) Andrea Cozzolino (S&D, IT) said:“I denounce General Haftar’s continued attacks against Tripoli and his complete disregard for the UN Secretary General call for a ceasefire at the time of the coronavirus. I also reject completely his claim that the United Nations-brokered Libyan Political Agreement to build a democratic state based on the principles of inclusion, human rights and the rule of law would be ´a thing of the past´ and his self-proclamation as ´the leader of all Libyan people´.We encourage all Libyan political forces and institutions to reject the cynical claims and actions of a would-be dictator. We also urge all the Libyans of good will to join forces in order to impose a cease-fire and relaunch an inclusive political process under the aegis of the UN”.The Libyan Political Agreement was brokered by the UN and signed in December 2015 in Skhirat, Morocco. By forming a Government of National Accord (GNA), it sought to resolve the dispute between the two Libyan governments, bring stability and help to combat IS forces.Despite the Agreement, fighting continued. General Khalifa Haftar’s troops, who support the authorities based in the eastern town of Tobruk, is in control of most of the country. He receives support from the United Arab Emirates, Egypt and Russia, though each country has different reasons and different objectives. The GNA, based in the capital Tripoli, and recognised by UN and by the EU, is backed by Turkey and most Western nations.
In January, 16 countries and organisations met in Berlin to renew their commitment to a 2011 UN weapons embargo in a bid to end the civil war that has raged in the country since Muammar Gaddafi was overthrown in 2011. This month, the EU launched the Operation Irini to enforce the UN arms embargo on Libya.

Return of people residing illegally in the EU

Posted by fidest press agency su domenica, 26 aprile 2020

Under the readmission agreement, Belarus commits to readmit its nationals who do not, or who no longer, fulfil the conditions in force for entry to, presence in, or residence on, the territory of EU member states. This will also apply to persons who hold a residence permit or a valid visa issued by Belarus, and those who illegally entered EU territory directly after having stayed on, or transited through, the territory of Belarus. The general visa fee for both Belarusians and EU citizens travelling to the other territory for up to 90 days in any 180-day period will be reduced to €35 (some categories of travellers will be exempt from paying fees). The deadlines for consulates to deal with requests will be reduced to 10 calendar days (extendable to a maximum of 30 days). Some Belarusian travellers, such as journalists, students and members of official delegations, will be able to receive multiple-entry visas that will be valid for longer and they will have to submit fewer supporting documents to justify their purpose of travel.
EU citizens can already enter Belarus without a visa for periods of up to 30 days, provided they cross the border at Minsk International Airport. For longer periods, of up to 90 days in any 180-day period, the new agreement will apply reciprocally.
MEPs underline that Belarus has engaged in the last few years in improving the respect of universal freedoms, the rule of law, and human rights, including the freedoms of speech, expression and of media, and labour rights. They also stress that these all constitute fundamental criteria for the EU’s policy towards third countries and that the visa facilitation agreement could be suspended, totally or partially, for human rights and democracy considerations. The two agreements will not apply either to Denmark or Ireland. Petar Vitanov (S&D, BG), rapporteur for the readmission agreement, considered that “the EU should engage more with all Eastern partners, despite the challenges or perhaps, even more so, because of them, as deeper relations should extend the frontiers of the area of freedom, security and justice”. Looking ahead, Vitanov asked for “a more active role for the EP in the opening and negotiations of future readmission agreements, as well as the subsequent monitoring of their application”. “Simplification of travel to and from the EU for both Belarusian as well as EU citizens is an important step on the path for deeper cooperation and understanding between the EU and Belarus and also to intensify the dialogue on democratic values. I would also encourage the European Commission to come back to us one year after the agreement is in place, so that we can evaluate to what extent the agreement meets its intentions”, said Ondřej Kovařík (Renew, CZ), rapporteur for the visa facilitation agreement.

Food aid and basic assistance for people in need: EP adopts special measures

Posted by fidest press agency su lunedì, 20 aprile 2020

The COVID-19 crisis is hitting the homeless and people living in poverty hardest. It is therefore crucial for MEPs that food aid and other operations supported by the EU’s Fund for the Most Deprived (FEAD) continues to reach those who need it. Specific measures need to be taken urgently to protect the most vulnerable from falling victim to this virus and to ensure that food aid and basic material assistance still reaches them, while respecting social distancing and personal protection requirements.
In light of this emergency, the Employment and Social Affairs Committee (EMPL) quickly reacted by requesting that special measures be adopted through urgent procedure to guarantee the continued functioning of FEAD, which provides around 13 million people in the EU per year with food aid and basic material assistance. The European Parliament on Friday approved the changes to FEAD proposed by the Commission, which offer the option to finance the provision of protective equipment, temporary 100% co-financing from the EU budget for the accounting year 2020-2021 and lighter reporting and audit measures during the COVID-19-pandemic.MEPs also adopted a new provision that was added upon EMPL’s initiative and negotiated with the Council. It stipulates that food aid and basic material assistance can be delivered through vouchers in any form (not only electronic, as proposed by the Commission), to ensure the safety of everyone involved in the operations and to reach the most vulnerable and excluded, in particular homeless people.Lucia Ďuriš Nicholsonová, Chair of the Committee on Employment and Social Affairs, commented after the vote:
“Our work was focused on the urgent need to protect those who are homeless and the most vulnerable citizens, for whom access to food aid and other assistance is of even greater importance during this coronavirus crisis. With the support of all political groups, the Employment and Social Affairs Committee proposed two additional modifications to the Commission proposal, accepted by the Council. We have added paper vouchers, to complement electronic ones, to ensure that FEAD aid is as inclusive as possible and can effectively reach the most deprived without interruption. The measures adopted today will make a real difference on the ground for the thousands of people who live in very precarious situations throughout the EU and who face extreme poverty.I wish to warmly thank and congratulate the political groups, the Council and the Commission for the excellent cooperation on these measures under severe time constraints.”The amended proposal was adopted with 686 votes in favour, 7 against and 3 abstentions. The Council has to formally approve Parliament’s position. The adopted measures will enter into force once published in the Official Journal of the European Union in the coming days.

“Heinous outrage” after attacks in Sri Lanka kill more than 150 people

Posted by fidest press agency su lunedì, 22 aprile 2019

World Jewish Congress President Ronald S. Lauder has denounced a ‘heinous outrage’ and appealed for zero tolerance of terror after more than 150 people were killed in multiple attacks on churches and hotels in several cities across Sri Lanka on Easter Sunday. Lauder said: “World Jewry–in fact all civilized people–denounce this heinous outrage and appeal for zero tolerance of those who use terror to advance their objectives. This truly barbarous assault on peaceful worshippers on one of the holiest days in the Christian calendar serves as a painful reminder that the war against terror must be at the top of the international agenda and pursued relentlessly. Sadly, Jews, repeatedly targeted by terrorists, know this pain first hand. We pray for the swift recovery of the survivors and extend our heartfelt condolences to those who have lost loved ones.”

More than 1000 people gather in EP to support strong EU ocean policy

Posted by fidest press agency su venerdì, 29 marzo 2019

More than 1000 people gathered in Brussels for this year’s largest EU event on oceans. Organised by MEP Gesine Meissner and European Commissioner Karmenu Vella, the event hosted our continent’s most influential advocates for healthy, safe and sustainable oceans. And with a large delegation of students and youth organisations in the room, the conference was more than an interesting recap of today’s status quo. It was a plea for even more ambition, from policy makers, companies and civil society, to safeguard the most precious organism of our planet: our ocean.Commissioner Vella set the tone of the conference: “the ocean is the genesis of life, but now it is on the front-line in the fight for survival. There is only one possible response, and that response is collective.” That “collective response” is called ocean governance, namely international cooperation on the various aspects that influence our ocean’s health: fisheries policy, protection of habitats and biodiversity, development of the blue economy. The European Commission has just published its progress report Improving International Ocean Governance. The conclusion is an encouraging one: if we are all aligned and don’t waste time, we can still make a difference. The EU has already been acting on most of the 50 actions identified two years ago, and more actions are expected. Maria Damanaki from the Nature Conservancy recognized this achievement and called the EU the champion of ocean governance.Making a difference is exactly what two leaders of the international youth movement were asking from the EU, and they consider it should go faster. Nele Van Hoywegen reminded everyone that the fight against climate change is “no longer a matter of saving our planet for the next generations”. Neither do we suffice with cleaning the oceans, according to Sébastien Willemart. Money talks, so investments and subsidies should steer public and private activity for the better.

End racist discrimination against Afro-European people in the EU

Posted by fidest press agency su martedì, 26 marzo 2019

Strasburgo. Member states urged to end racial profiling in criminal law and counter-terrorism. Call for reparations for crimes against humanity during European colonialism
15 million Afro-Europeans live in the EU.MEPs call on the EU and its member states to take measures to tackle the structural racism people of African descent face in Europe.
In a resolution adopted on Tuesday with 535 in favour to 80 votes against, and 44 abstentions, Parliament urges EU and national authorities to develop anti-racism policies and stop discrimination; in the fields of education, housing, health, criminal justice, political participation and migration. In light of increasing afrophobic attacks, MEPs call on the European Commission and EU member states to acknowledge the racist, discriminatory and xenophobic suffering of Afro-Europeans, and offer proper protection against these inequalities to ensure that hate crimes are suitably investigated, prosecuted and sanctioned. Additionally, people of African descent should be taken into account more in current funding programmes and in the next multiannual financial framework (2021-2027).
MEPs condemn the mistreatment of people of African descent in police custody, citing the numerous violent incidents and deaths that have occurred while in custody. They also note the frequent use of racial and ethnic profiling in criminal law enforcement, counter-terrorism measures and immigration control, and urge member states to end this practice.
The resolution encourages EU institutions and member states to address and rectify past injustices and crimes against humanity, perpetrated in the name of European colonialism. These historic crimes still have present day negative consequences for people of African descent, MEPs claim.MEPs suggest carrying out reparations, such as apologising publicly and return stolen artefacts to their countries of origin. Parliament also calls on EU countries to declassify their colonial archives, as well as to present a comprehensive perspective on colonialism and slavery in the educational curricula.
Approximately 15 million people of African descent currently live in Europe. They face persistent discrimination and are subject to deeply rooted negative stereotyping.Evidence suggests that Afro-European children receive lower grades at school than their white counterparts, and their rate of early school leaving is markedly higher.

The EU and the national authorities should develop anti-racism policies, covering the fields of education, housing, health, criminal justice, political participation and migration, Civil Liberties MEPs say in a resolution adopted on Monday with 29 votes to 1 and 1 abstention. They urge the European Commission and EU countries to acknowledge the racism, discrimination and xenophobia suffered by Afro-Europeans, and to offer them adequate protection against these inequalities. The text voices concern over the rise in Afrophobic attacks registered in the EU in recent years. It calls on the Commission to include a focus on people of African descent in current funding programmes and in the next multiannual financial framework (2021-2027).The Committee underlines the importance of EU countries effectively responding to hate crime, and ensuring that hate crimes against Afro-European people are adequately investigated, prosecuted and sanctioned.MEPs denounce the increasing vulnerability of people of African descent in police custody, pointing to numerous violent incidents and deaths while in custody. MEPs call for full protection of intersex people’s rights

Posted by fidest press agency su domenica, 2 dicembre 2018

Intersex children in the EU still face human rights violations and genital mutilations. Member States asked to ensure depathologisation of intersexuality MEPs condemn the normalisation of sex treatments and surgery Birth registration procedures should be more flexible Civil Liberties MEPs urge the European Commission and member states to put measures forward for protecting and promoting the rights of intersex people in the EU.They denounce that intersex children still face human rights violations and genital mutilations in the EU, and that intersex variations continue to be treated as diseases, despite the lack of evidence supporting the success of medical treatments in the long term. They also demand more flexibility in birth registration procedures and facilitating the change of names on identity cards. In a resolution adopted with 30 votes to 7, the Committee stressed that intersexuality should no longer be dealt with as a pathology, and called on member states to pursue the removal of the category of “gender incongruence in childhood” in the International Classification of Diseases of the World Health Organisation.
MEPs condemn the high prevalence of sex normalising treatments and surgery, despite not being medically necessary in most of the cases, and encourage EU countries to follow the example of those, such as Portugal and Malta, where these surgical procedures are banned.
The text denounces that surgeries are often performed on intersex children without their prior, personal, full and informed consent, and underlines that genital mutilations can cause life-long consequences, such as psychological trauma and physical impairments.
The resolution underlines the importance of “flexible birth registration procedures” for intersex children. It points to legislation already in place in some member states that allows gender recognition based on self-determination, and encourages other countries to adopt similar rules, including flexible procedures to change gender markers and names on identity documents, including the possibility of gender-neutral names.MEPs call on the European Commission and member states to increase their support, including financial aid, to organisations fighting the stigmatisation of intersex people. They also demand the Commission to make sure that EU funds do not support research or medical projects that further contribute to human rights’ violations of intersex people.
The draft resolution will be put to a vote by the full House during the January plenary session in Strasbourg, following a debate with Council and Commission representatives.

Robotic Glove Helps People with Hand Paralysis Regain Independence

Posted by fidest press agency su giovedì, 1 novembre 2018

For the nearly 1 in 50 Americans living with some form of paralysis, NEOFECT, a med-tech company, has a new solution that increases hand mobility and helps people regain their independence. The NeoMano wearable robotic glove, available today on Indiegogo, enables people recovering from stroke or living with spinal cord injuries (SCI), multiple sclerosis, cerebral palsy, or ALS to perform daily tasks they otherwise could not do on their own.
A comfortable, soft, wearable glove, NeoMano is powered by titanium wires that close wearers’ fingers so they can firmly grasp common objects with one hand. With the NeoMano, SCI patients and others with limited hand mobility can hold a cup of coffee, grip and twist a doorknob, use a toothbrush or comb, manipulate shirt buttons and zippers, and perform other basic tasks, enabling them to more fully participate in social activities.“After working with stroke patients in a rehabilitation setting, we recognized the need to improve the mobility of patients with spinal cord injuries and other forms of partial hand paralysis,” said Scott Kim, Co-Founder and CEO of NEOFECT USA. “By helping patients mimic normal hand movement, NeoMano delivers obvious physical and psychological benefits, and increases confidence. We hope this Indiegogo campaign will raise awareness of solutions that can help people with paralysis operate more independently, and expedite the development of the NeoMano so we can get it into the hands of the people who need it most.”
The NeoMano is simple to put on and use; the glove fits over a user’s index finger, middle finger, and thumb. A single press on its wireless, Bluetooth-connected controller activates the pulley housing and motor, causing the built-in titanium wires to actively close the wearer’s hand. The button is pressed again to release the tension and return fingers to a neutral position. The robotic glove is portable, allowing users to wear it wherever they need gripping assistance, and the battery provides eight hours of continuous use.NEOFECT’s line of gamified rehabilitation training solutions, including its flagship product, the RAPAEL Smart Glove for Home, delivers more engaging, measurable rehab to patients recovering from stroke and other musculoskeletal and neurological injuries. With the NeoMano, NEOFECT aims to support a broader base of patients, giving them the same hope, confidence, motivation, and independence it has been delivering to rehab patients for eight years.

West Africa food crisis threatens 6 million people

Posted by fidest press agency su domenica, 1 luglio 2018

Caritas Internationalis is appealing for urgent assistance to help millions of people affected by a worsening humanitarian crisis in the Sahel region of Africa. Nearly 6 million people in Burkina Faso, Chad, Mali, Mauritania, Niger and Senegal are struggling to meet their daily food needs. Severe malnutrition threatens the lives of 1.6 million children. It is the worst crisis seen in the region since 2012. Caritas fears the situation will deteriorate even further in the critical months ahead. The latest emergency has been caused by poor rainfall that has resulted in water, crop and pasture shortages and livestock losses. Farmers have been forced to begin their seasonal movement of livestock – four months earlier and across longer distances than usual. Food security has rapidly deteriorated across the region and food supplies for millions of people have been exhausted. Many are dealing with extreme challenges such as limited job opportunities, high food prices, displacement and violent extremism.Severe acute malnutrition rates in the six countries have increased by 50 per cent since last year. One child in six under the age of five now needs urgent life-saving treatment to survive. Families are reducing meals, withdrawing children from school and missing out on critical health services to save money for food. Without immediate scaled-up assistance, many lives will be at risk and the livelihoods of thousands of families will be ruined as the alarming cycle of adversity is set to worsen in the Sahel.Caritas Développement Niger (CADEV) says violent attacks by militants from Boko Haram have added to the challenges as tens of thousands of people have been forced to leave their homes in the Diffa region of south-east Niger. Diffa is one of the poorest regions in the world and women and children represent 85 percent of the refugees and internally displaced persons.
Raymond Yoro, secretary general of CADEV, says the situation is dire. “The humanitarian situation in Niger is worsening day by day due to the security crisis in Diffa, Tillabery and Tahoua,” says Yoro. “The number of people in need has increased to 2.3 million, an increase of 400,000 compared to 2017.”Yoro says an estimated 1.4 million people will require food assistance in Niger in 2018. CADEV is particularly concerned about more than 380,000 young children suffering from severe acute malnutrition (MAS) and 922,000 others with moderate acute malnutrition (MAM).In Diffa, CADEV plans to strengthen the resilience of 1500 households with unconditional cash transfers, give displaced children access to recreation centres and assist 500 women and 200 young people with income generating activities. In Burkina Faso the situation is also critical. Caritas says there is acute malnutrition in six provinces – Soum, Namentenga, Gnagna, Komandjoari, Boulkiemde and Kourweogo. Families are relying on their limited savings to survive and more than 80,000 are considered to be in a phase of food emergency.Abbé Constantin Safanitié Sere, Caritas Burkina secretary-general, says the situation is the worst seen in Burkina Faso since the 2012 humanitarian crisis. Rising cereal prices, the impact of climate change and terrorist attacks in several regions have added to the challenges faced by many who have been displaced.Caritas is committed to assisting the most vulnerable with food assistance and livelihood protection with the aim of helping 2000 households. “If the project is not fully funded, it would be devastating especially for vulnerable households who cannot survive without assistance. In that case we would have to give preference to the most vulnerable groups, namely children, pregnant women, lactating women and people with disabilities,” he says.
In Mauritania severe acute malnutrition rates are at their highest since 2008 with half a million people threatened with hunger. According to a survey conducted in February, 147,507 people could be suffering from acute malnutrition. Caritas Mauritania will work in Gorgol and Brakna providing food and farming assistance to 23,300 people. “Despite the hope brought by some traces of rain here and there, the humanitarian situation remains worrying in rural areas,” says Caritas Mauritania. Access to adequate food and water remains the number one problem and Caritas is working to protect people’s livelihoods while providing food and other assistance.“As the number of crises increases in different countries, our concern is that we will begin to “prioritise” suffering due to scarce financial resources,” says Caritas Mauritania. “That would be dramatic because it would amount to choosing who would be allowed to die.”Caritas Mauritania is urging partners to provide financial support so it can implement its emergency program to support people in their local areas and avoid migration to large urban centres.

Migrant border crossings remain challenging in some Member States

Posted by fidest press agency su martedì, 27 febbraio 2018

Looking at the situation across 14 EU Member States, the report reveals how in Croatia, France and Poland migrants are being sent back without the chance to lodge claims for international protection. In Hungary the border transit zone policy has tightened with the daily cap of people being admitted falling from ten to two. This may lead to people left waiting in Serbia for years. In addition, Austria, Denmark, France, Germany and Sweden continue to maintain temporary border controls.Although asylum applications across the EU, almost halved in 2017 compared to 2016, it varied from country to country. In most Member States numbers continued to fall, with the exception of France, Greece and Spain. For those already in the EU, problems remain. The situation of people arriving irregularly in Spain by sea remained critical. According to the Ministry of Interior, more than 22,100 people arrived in 2017 – almost triple the number in 2016. Last year, some 223 people died trying to cross the Mediterranean Sea to reach Spain, while this year, at least 75 have already lost their lives. Newcomers continued to face difficulties accessing asylum procedures, and the identification and treatment of vulnerable people, such as children, women or victims of trafficking remained inappropriate. In Greece, in the hotspots on the islands of Chios and Samos, several people including families with very small children were facing harsh weather conditions in tents without heating.
In France, the authorities continued to take – sometimes violent – evacuation measures against informal camps reappearing in the north of France at Calais and Grande-Synthe, where several hundred people are living, NGOs reported. Many children in Ventimiglia, Italy, are living in informal camps in appalling conditions or in the local reception centre together with adult asylum seekers, according to media reports. In Sicily, the NGO ‘Terres des Hommes’ reported that some children who arrived from Libya in extremely poor psychological and physical condition had to wait up to 13 months in local first reception centres before being transferred to reception centres for children.Family reunification also posed difficulties in many places. Over 3,800 asylum seekers eligible for family reunification under the Dublin Regulation have been waiting over six months in Greece to depart for Germany. In the Netherlands, applications for family reunification take on average over 10 months, instead of the six prescribed by law. In Germany and Sweden, laws limit family reunification and in Croatia reunification procedures are complex.
The Agency collects data about the fundamental rights situation of people arriving in Member States particularly affected by large migration movements. This report covers 14 Member States: Austria, Bulgaria, Croatia, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Italy, the Netherlands, Poland, Spain and Sweden. FRA has published its migration overviews since September 2015.

Educated people more likely to have affairs

Posted by fidest press agency su giovedì, 25 maggio 2017

educated cheatA shocking new survey has revealed that the more education people in the United Kingdom receive, the more likely they are to have an affair. Statistics show that more than 69% of women and over 65% of men who achieve higher education will be tempted to stray. The study, conducted by VictoriaMilan – a dating site for married and attached people looking to have an affair – looked into the education levels of more than 5 million of its active users to discover whether a person is more or less likely to stray based on their level of education. The survey polled men and women from all walks of life, taking into account people who didn’t complete high school or college, those who graduated from high school, technical school, college or achieved a Bachelor’s, Masters or Doctorate. The group most likely to engage in an erotic affair is those who graduated from college, with 36.87% of women and 25.23% of men confessing they have strayed.A trend appears with the next level up in education – a Bachelor’s degree – gives people a bit more confidence, with 18.98% of women and 20.32% of men deciding to embark on an adulterous adventure.Men and women with a Masters are third most likely to slip between the sheets with someone other than their beloved partner. 16.75% of men and 14.45% of women who have achieved their Masters have no issue getting hot and heavy with someone outside of their primary relationship. The most faithful women are those who have achieved their Doctorate (1.40%) followed by those who completed technical education (3.44% women). The men least likely to stray are those who didn’t complete high school (2.33%) followed by those achieved their Doctorate (3.12%).
Founder and CEO of Victoria Milan, Sigurd Vedal, said the survey showed that the more educated men and women, the more likely they are to get hot and heavy between the sheets with someone other than their primary partner.“People with university credentials are the ones most likely to have an affair and those with limited education are the most faithful. What this tells us is that highly educated people are likely to have more time on their hands, while the working class are too busy making ends meet to have time for a sexy fling,” Mr Vedal said.
