The United Nations World Food

Posted by fidest press agency su mercoledì, 1 gennaio 2014

The United Nations World Food Programme (WFP) said today it would scale up food distributions in conflict-wracked Central African Republic (CAR) to assist up to 1.25 million people in the next eight months as growing numbers of people go hungry.
WFP appealed for nearly US$107 million through August 2014 to assist both hundreds of thousands of displaced people and others whose food security is disrupted by violence.“We urgently need support from donors so we won’t start running out of food in January,” said WFP West Africa Regional Director Denise Brown in Bangui. “We are providing food for hungry people wherever we can in CAR. But insecurity is the biggest challenge.”“We therefore urge all parties to the conflict to ensure the safe and unhindered access of humanitarian personnel and the timely delivery of humanitarian assistance to people in need wherever they are. WFP is neutral and delivers assistance solely on the basis of need.”In spite of the volatile security situation, WFP and its partners have assisted more than 237,000 people since 5 December in CAR. In total, WFP has provided food to over 174,000 people in Bangui, 41,500 people in the northeastern city of Bossangoa and 21,500 people in Bouar.WFP will focus from January to April 2014 on providing assistance to people in immediate need by increasing food distributions, supplementary feeding to combat malnutrition among children under five and assistance to vulnerable groups. From May to August, it will also reach more people in need of food during the lean season when the last harvest runs out.The new emergency operation specifies that because of security risks, food distributions will be undertaken by teams moving swiftly from site to site and able to adjust plans. To avoid putting people in need of assistance at risk, a protection analysis will be conducted in each place. In some locations, cooked meals may be provided to help protect women and children.WFP said it and its partners were closely and continuously monitoring the unfolding crisis in CAR and would adapt the number of people it assists, for how long and where as necessary.
WFP is reaching out to local community leaders to inform people about food distributions. The organization will solicit the concerns, ideas and priorities of people, especially women and vulnerable groups, so those most in need are reached despite all the obstacles.Earlier in December, WFP launched a special operation to deploy more staff, set up local offices, obtain vital security and telecommunications equipment and support establishing cross-border humanitarian flights into CAR at a cost of US$5.3 million through June 2014.

Boston, (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) — In addition to providing a forum dedicated to media sales over new digital mediums during its exclusive Summit, EuraMedia will provide an expo with 150 booths that will be attended by media buyers, sellers, and specialists from related professions as well as institutional and private investors.Russia is poised, according to Price Waterhouse Coopers, to be the third largest market in the world as concerns consumption of internationally produced content and advertising by 2015. In the last three years, nearly all large entertainment conglomerates including Viacom, Disney, and FOX have rushed to launch ground operations in the country in order to create a more forceful sales presence, oversee local marketing and promotions, and, in the cases of SONY, Universal, and others, even produce. More recently, the concept of selling content for social media, cellular, streaming media, HP, IP, and 3D TV has also become significant, with country has taken of immense importance, with the successful proliferation of streaming media sites like Tvigle.ru, developed by STS Media, and Ivy.ru, which announced last week that it has come to purchase agreements with Fox, Disney, Warner Brothers, Paramount Pictures, and Universal. Yet another trend concerns sales of media from Russia to the U.S. and the proliferation of the concept of the Russia-conceived international publishing house, like Zhivi Media, owned by Mikhail Prokhorov, proprietor of the Snob brand, conceived by Moscow’s brightest young writers, including Summit speaker Masha Gessen, which is now being distributed, offline, in the U.S. Highly successful and unique online Russian content providers, such as Lookatme.ru, are also seeking to feel out the possibility of branching across continents.
Among the new age advertising technologies on display are TimeSurf , 80/20 Brands, and EpiSphere Giving, all from newly launched Russian-American joint venture company EpiSphere, founded by Ani Nalbandian. The technologies offer the possibility for consumers to demand the type and timing of their advertising via on-line time auctions directly between brands and consumers, reducing the power of the Web site or broadcaster, unless it decides to play along. Russia’s O2 television, also speaking at the Summit, which is successfully trading in many major markets across the world, is currently implementing such technologies with the aim of providing its viewers with complete control when, how, and what type of ads they will watch. EpiSphere also offers an added value technology that extracts sums from monies saved via reduced expenditures on the brand side and lets the consumer target them to charities of choice. Other speakers on new advertising are Mark Slater, CEO of Getable, a VRM (Vendor Relationship Management) platform, which focuses on pull versus push marketing, encouraging businesses to reach out to consumers according to their profiles and preferences, and Paul Shaut, Chairman of Omnilink, which is launching a proprietary transaction capturing technology that integrates seamlessly with on and off-line points of sale in order to provide added value consumer data and the ability to execute extremely targeted loyalty campaigns. Such VRMs and transaction capturing tools are being used in both retail and media.
The EuraMedia 2012 Summit will take place at Boston’s Seaport Hotel and World Trade Pavilion between June 13-16, 2012. The diverse agenda includes sessions on IT, new media, social media, a trade show on media buying and selling across markets, and ‘how-to’ market entry seminars. Biopharmology, a co-branded trade expo dedicated to the fields of nano, solar, and biotechnology, will run concurrently. Networking events include an awards gala hosted by Sarah Jessica Parker as well as a fashion exhibition and charity auction. Learn more at: http://www.euramedia2012.com.

The volcanic ash

Posted by fidest press agency su mercoledì, 21 aprile 2010

London The European aviation industry has become crippled by the volcanic ash blown across from Iceland on 15 April, resulting in en masse cancellation of incoming, outgoing, and flights within Europe.  The safety precaution carried out immediately affected the European airline industry and the traveling public.  It is something the industry has never been prepared for, resulting in airlines involved in this market place collectively losing over $200 million per day, as estimated by IATA.  Max Sukkhasantikul, Commercial Aviation Consulting Analyst at Frost & Sullivan believes the estimate by IATA is less than reality, as British Airways alone is losing approximately $40 million per day, and even airlines outside Europe such as Emirates, losing $10 million per day.  The 5 US carriers operating to Europe are also losing a daily rate of approximately $20 million collectively.Conditions are slowly improving, with up to 50 per cent of flights operating, but the effect will still be similar to the effect on its second day, 16 April, when up to 60 per cent of the flights were cancelled. Flying laboratories have been conducted by scientists with results that are still worrying, justifying the continued flight ban.  Sukkhasantikul points out that the legacy, bureaucratic system in place to handle such a situation is still up to the relative governments whether a flight ban should be imposed or not, questioning the possibility of governments lifting flight bans for political purposes, given public outcry based on so called “test flights,” is of great concern as it could jeopardize public safety.  A new risk assessment system based on factual, scientific data, rather than publicity stunts by the airlines, should be considered to mitigate the problem. While airlines have arranged special flights where possible, European governments are cooperating to have a short term solution.  The United Kingdom, for example has agreed with the Spanish Government to have its incoming/outgoing passengers and freight channeled through Spain, followed by road/rail transport.

Guillaume Janot: Ecostream

Posted by fidest press agency su mercoledì, 18 novembre 2009

Paris until 19/12/2009 12 rue Boissy d’Anglas Fondation d’entreprise Ricard / Art contemporain In his last work, titled Ecostream, Guillaume Janot explores through photography a few artificial or recreated environments. From Disneyland to a botanical garden in Sydney, passing through Beijing or Vincenne’s zoo, this universe of images, the corpus’s nucleus, is represented by unnatural dimensions, delocated, entirely made and which the use is essentially dedicated to leisure.  The exhibition at the Fondation d’entreprise Ricard presents a serie of new photographs, taken between 2007 and 2009. The serie’s title, which is also the exhibition’s, is borrowed from a special place in a big public park in Beijing, where the walker can immerse himself in a flowered and idyllic countryside, where nature’s illusions (at the same time wild and reassuring) is cleverly staged. Through this work, far from « putting at a distance », or to proceed, a step a side, by revealing/denouncing the artificial dimension of the place , the artist, on the contrary, extends, hams, through the images, their attempts (or ours), sometimes naïve, submerging from “elsewhere”. CPCE Council meets in the ecumenical city of Geneva

Posted by fidest press agency su martedì, 6 ottobre 2009

7th General Assembly 20-25 September 2012 in Florence – common position of the CPCE churches on euthanasia in preparation – study process for young ecumenists begins 16-18 October 2009 – consultation on the future of the church fellowship 15-19 September 2010. The Council of the Community of Protestant Churches in Europe (CPCE) met in the Ecumenical Centre in Geneva from 2-4 October. Items on the agenda included the half-time stocktaking between the General Assemblies of Budapest 2006 and Florence 2012. The coming Seventh General Assembly of the CPCE is to take place in the Convitto della Calza conference centre in Florence from 20-25 September 2012. The Council has appointed a working party to prepare for it. The next meeting of the Council in Edinburgh in May 2010 will settle the theme of the General Assembly. The “Specialist Group on Ethics”, the advisory body of the CPCE on ethical questions, has presented the draft of a statement by the Protestant churches in Europe on euthanasia to the Council. One aim of the study is said to be to offer church governments theological orientation and help in political processes. The position will contain concrete examples of how to deal with people in crisis situations. The text is now being sent to the member churches of the CPCE for their reactions. In autumn 2010 there will be a Europe-wide consultation on the topic, to which specialists from the member churches will be invited. After this consultation the text will be published. Under the title “Ecclesia semper reformanda. Ecclesiological considerations on the renewal of the Protestant churches in Europe”, from 16-18 October 2009 in Berlin there will be the start of a study process for young theologians. The consultation process, which will last until 2011, will make a theological analysis of the different processes of church reform in Europe and investigate whether there are possibilities of collaboration. Special attention will be paid to the challenges from charismatic movements on the one hand and increasing secularization on the other. “The question of the shaping of the church is of vital interest for the future of the churches throughout Europe,” remarked the CPCE Co-President Michael Beintker. Financial support will be given to the project by the Evangelical Church in the Rhineland.
The 13-member Council is the executive organ of the Community of Protestant Churches in Europe (CPCE). It meets approximately every nine months. Currently the Council with its representative members is meeting in Geneva from 2-4 October. The next meeting of the Council is in Edinburgh in May 2010.

«Sages» pour le groupe de travail sur les réformes

Posted by fidest press agency su martedì, 21 luglio 2009
