Spectrum Pharmaceuticals Provides Pipeline Update on Late Stage Programs

Posted by fidest press agency su mercoledì, 1 gennaio 2020

Spectrum Pharmaceuticals, Inc. (NASDAQ-GS: SPPI), a biopharmaceutical company focused on novel and targeted oncology therapies, today reported that its pre-specified primary endpoint in its Phase 2 clinical trial evaluating poziotinib in previously treated non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) patients with EGFR exon 20 insertion mutations was not met in Cohort 1. The company also announced that the Biologics License Application (BLA) for ROLONTIS®(eflapegrastim) was accepted for review by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and set a Prescription Drug User Fee Act (PDUFA) date of October 24, 2020.The ZENITH20 trial’s Cohort 1 enrolled a total of 115 patients who received 16 mg/day of poziotinib. The intent-to-treat analysis showed that 17 patients had a response (by RECIST) and 62 patients had stable disease for a 68.7% disease control rate (DCR). The confirmed objective response rate (ORR) was 14.8% (95% Confidence Interval (CI) 8.9%-22.6%). The median duration of response was 7.4 months. The safety profile was in-line with othersecond-generation EGFR tyrosine kinase inhibitors.Joe Turgeon, President and CEO of Spectrum Pharmaceuticals said, “While the response rate of Cohort 1 in this trial was lower than we expected, the positive signals observed for this cohort provide support for the continued clinical evaluation of poziotinib in this patient population with significant unmet medical need. We look forward to providing read outs from Cohorts 2 and 3 in 2020, and plan to provide an update on the overall program strategy during the first quarter of 2020 after a full evaluation of the data from Cohort 1 is completed.”The ZENITH20 trial is made up of 7 independent cohorts. Cohorts 1 – 4 are each independently powered for a pre-specified statistical hypothesis with a primary endpoint of ORR. Cohorts 5 – 7 are exploratory studies. The futility analysis has been completed for Cohorts 2 and 3 which met their minimum threshold of responses to continue. The company expects to report results for these cohorts in 2020. Cohorts 4, 5, 6 and 7 are continuing per protocol.

Sustainable Dolphin and Whale Watching Programs

Posted by fidest press agency su domenica, 15 dicembre 2019

Friend of the Sea, the leading global certification standard for products and services that respect and protect the marine environment, announced today it is collaborating with R&E Ocean Community Conservation Foundation to develop sustainable dolphin and whale watching programs for scientific groups in Columbia. The programs promote sustainability while also supporting local communities and local tour operators in Columbia that facilitate the expeditions.“This is an innovative program, one that we hope will be repeated else where,” said Paolo Bray, Director of Friend of the Sea. “Sustainability and sustainable economic development must go hand in hand. If people perceive sustainability as a zero-sum game, where a gain for sustainability is a loss for the local economy, we’re going to have a lot of trouble. The work we’re doing with R&E exemplifies a win-win approach on this issue.” The R&E Ocean Community Conservation Foundation’s mission is to research, preserve and care for vulnerable marine environments and their species. They accomplish these goals by providing communities with knowledge, training and tools for conservation, protection and economic growth. The organization’s approach blends the formation of sustainable habitats with strong community development.
The programs being developed jointly by Friend of the Sea and R&E will enable scientists, eco-tourists, students and volunteers to observe humpback whales (Megaptera novaeangliae), bottlenose dolphins (Tursiops truncatus), pantropical spotted dolphins (Stenella attenuata) and rough-toothed dolphins (Steno bredanensis) in the waters of Columbia from mid-June to mid-October.
“R&E Ocean Community Conservation is very happy to partner with Friend of the Sea.” said Ann Carole Vallejo, Executive Director and Lead Researcher “We hope to develop and achieve together responsable and sustainable community-oriented whale watching in Choco, Colombia. With this framework we would like to encourage the conservation and management for human interactions with marine mammals.” Friend of the Sea is applying its Dolphin and Whale Watching standard for Scientific Groups to this joint project. The standard has the goal of minimizing unintentional disturbance to dolphins and whales, along with their respective habitats, through key principles of conduct. These include setting a maximum number of vessels in the watching zone, moderating approach distance, conducting training programs for operators and crew and collecting scientific data. The standard also forbids swimming with the animals and using mono-use plastics.

Tuition Hikes and International Student Visa Restrictions Fuel Demand for Investment Migration Programs

Posted by fidest press agency su mercoledì, 4 settembre 2019

As global headlines are dominated by the effects of changing immigration policies in the UK and the US, there is one consequence that has gone largely unnoticed: a significant decline in international student numbers. Latest statistics show that top universities have seen international enrollment figures drop significantly in response to new restrictions on student visas in the US, uncertainty over Brexit and the rights of EU citizens in the UK, and tuition hikes in both countries.Seeking to avoid these pitfalls, high-net-worth individuals (HNWIs) are pursuing alternative residence or citizenship rights that will allow their children to fulfil their academic aspirations without becoming entangled in risky or unpredictable visa application processes. The UK Investor Immigration Program is ideal for investors seeking to take advantage of the UK’s excellent primary, secondary, and tertiary education services. As noted by the Knight Frank Global Wealth Report, although Australia, Canada, Switzerland, the US, and a number of other countries all attract students from overseas, the UK’s private boarding schools are still seen as the gold standard by many. At the tertiary level, the Oxford and Cambridge universities are currently ranked number one and two in the world by Times Higher Education, which provides the definitive list of the world’s best universities.
Of the universities in mainland Europe, revered institutions such as Humboldt University of Berlin, Sorbonne University in Paris, and the University of Amsterdam continue to draw wealthy international students, attracted by both the peerless quality of education on offer and the experience of student life in a European capital. For investors wanting to give their children access to these kinds of opportunities, a key advantage of European universities is that fees for EU citizens are much lower than they are for non-EU citizens — up to 50% or more. For an investment of between EUR 1 million and EUR 2.15 million, Malta and Cyprus offer the most popular citizenship-by-investment programs in the EU at present.
Across the Atlantic, the US EB-5 Immigrant Investor Program is an attractive option for those who have their sights set on an American education. The program offers permanent residence in exchange for an investment of USD 500,000 to USD 1 million. The Australia Residence-by-Investment Program is another potential avenue to pursue. Overall, the country is renowned for its education system — one of many reasons it remains the top destination of choice for HNWIs looking to resettle.

Quaker Lobby Applauds Congress for Protecting Vital Anti-Poverty Programs

Posted by fidest press agency su martedì, 22 Maggio 2018

The Quaker lobby, The Friends Committee on National Legislation (FCNL), thanks lawmakers for rejecting dangerous changes to the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) in today’s House vote on the Farm Bill or the 2018 Agriculture and Nutrition Act (H.R. 2).Had it passed, the House version of the Farm Bill would have eliminated or reduced SNAP and other vital benefits for up to two million Americans.“We are grateful that lawmakers rejected a hyper-partisan bill that would have increased hunger and hardship for millions of American families,” said Diane Randall, FCNL Executive Secretary. “This vote affirms the need for Congress to move forward with a bipartisan bill that truly reduces the risk of hunger for individuals and families across America, thereby upholding fundamental Quaker values of equity and justice.” The Farm Bill reauthorizes SNAP, formerly called food stamps, which helps more than 40 million Americans put food on the table. However, the program has been vulnerable to devastating cuts for many years now. The House Farm Bill would have imposed stricter requirements for SNAP beneficiaries to find work before they lose benefits without providing substantive training and assistance for adults on the program to get jobs.“Work is important, but SNAP is not a jobs program. It is an extremely effective anti-hunger program. We appreciate that lawmakers could see that forcing families off critical food assistance while instituting a huge new and untested bureaucracy would be both dangerous and counterproductive,” said Amelia Kegan, FCNL Legislative Director for Domestic Policy. “Passing such a bill would have been a devastating blow to millions of Americans at this time of the month—the third week—when SNAP benefits are typically used up.”After a dramatic vote on Friday, it is unclear whether lawmakers will revisit the House Farm Bill. Speaker Paul Ryan (R-WI) may attempt to bring the vote back up in the near future. FCNL urges both chambers to move a genuinely bipartisan bill that protects SNAP and institutes policies that will truly address hunger.
