Mostra Nanda Vigo Light project 2020

Posted by fidest press agency su sabato, 29 febbraio 2020

Friend of the Sea Launches Conservation Project to Protect Penguins

Posted by fidest press agency su giovedì, 13 febbraio 2020

Friend of the Sea, the world’s leading certification standard for products and services that respect and protect the marine environment, has launched a bold conservation project aimed at protecting the world’s penguins from the effects of fishing and industrial activities. Penguins are being affected by overfishing and degradation of their habitats – to the point where some penguin species are facing extinction. The penguin initiative is one of several being undertaken by Friend of the Sea and its sister Friend of the Earth.
“Penguins are at risk due to fishery interaction and other man-made environmental impacts,”said Paolo Bray, Director of Friend of the Sea. “There are ways of countering this problem, such as only eating seafood that comes from well-managed and sustainable fisheries that take measures to protect penguins and the broader marine environment.”Penguins are a “bycatch,” a species that gets caught in fishing nets unintentionally, but often fatally. At the same time, the fishing industry can disrupt the food chain the penguins rely upon to survive. And, plastic waste and industrial development, along with climate change, further damage the penguins’ habitats. Of the 18 major species of penguin in the world, 13 species are facing severe threats to their existence. The most affected habitats are in the southern hemisphere. The conservation project offers several paths to solving the penguin endangerment crisis. These include improved fisheries management, practices that reduce bycatch and measures to improve the penguins’ nesting and breeding habitat. KD Pharma, the international manufacturer of Omega-3 product solutions, has announced support for the project. “At KD Pharma, every step of our manufacturing processis guided by a deep respect for the ocean and its treasures.” People can show their support to Penguin Conservation by choosing sustainable products, share awareness or sign our online petition
Friend of the Sea and Friend of the Earth are each overseeing a portfolio of 20 conservation projects. Friend of the Sea projects include “Save the Albatross,” “Save the Corals,” “Fish Welfare,” “Save the Sharks” and more. Friend of the Earth is funding and managing programs such as “Save Parrots,” “Save the Primates,” “Save the Pangolins” and “Save the Bats.”
Friend of the Sea, a project of the World Sustainability Organization, awards sustainable practices in Fisheries, Aquaculture, Fishmeal and Omega 3 Fish Oil. The organization promotes pilot projects related to restaurants, sustainable shipping, whale and dolphin-watching, aquaria, ornamental fish, UV creams andothers. It is the only sustainable fisheries certification program recognized and supervised globally by a National Accreditation Body.

R&D Alliance Between Harvard and Deerfield Announces First Project Agreement

Posted by fidest press agency su venerdì, 10 gennaio 2020

Lab1636, the R&D alliance between Harvard University and Deerfield Management Company, announced today its first project agreement to advance Harvard researchers’ innovations toward the development of novel therapeutics. Lab1636 has committed to a first project out of the laboratory of David Ginty, PhD, the Edward R. and Anne G. Lefler Professor of Neurobiology in the Blavatnik Institute at Harvard Medical School (HMS) and a Howard Hughes Medical Institute Investigator.Launched in March 2019, Lab1636 is a major strategic R&D alliance between Harvard and the healthcare investment firm Deerfield to speed the development and translation of biomedical and life-science innovations into transformative treatments to improve life, health, and medical care. Lab1636 was established with a funding commitment of up to $100 million from Deerfield.Through this first project, Lab1636 will dedicate focused resources to advancing innovations with great therapeutic potential for patients. Recognized for his lab’s elucidation of the peripheral nervous system, Ginty seeks to answer fundamental questions in neuroscience relating to how we perceive and respond to our environment. Over the past few years, in particular, significant strides in understanding tactile hypersensitivity have been led by a postdoctoral researcher in his lab, Lauren Orefice, PhD, who is now Assistant Professor of Genetics at HMS and Massachusetts General Hospital. Together, they identified certain compounds that may point the way to a treatment for the touch hypersensitivity experienced by people with autism spectrum disorders. The Ginty Lab’s research in this area has previously received funding from the federal government and the Simons Foundation, as well as translational research funding from Harvard’s Blavatnik Biomedical Accelerator and Q-FASTR at HMS. Lab1636 is now poised to validate and expand upon the lab’s findings, advancing them through late-stage preclinical development.A private company wholly owned by affiliates of Deerfield, Lab1636 supports Harvard R&D projects through various stages of drug discovery and development, for example enabling studies to explicate the biology of disease, validate therapeutic targets, or achieve a proof-of-concept necessary for filing an Investigational New Drug (IND) application. Harvard’s R&D projects funded by Lab1636 are initiated by principal investigators from labs across the University and selected by a joint advisory committee.

Europe as a Project – Being Protagonist of our Future

Posted by fidest press agency su domenica, 10 novembre 2019

Mons. Sangalli.

To improve agility and operational efficiencies, shippers and logistics providers are increasingly identifying ways to automate manual processes. To further streamline and automate the manual Truckload shipping process, project44, the global leader in advanced visibility for shippers and logistics service providers, today announced the addition of a new Truckload tendering capability to its Advanced Visibility Platform™. This innovative offering eliminates freight system friction and data silos, removing the need for users to leave their Transportation Management System (TMS) or Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) system to secure quotes. From freight procurement, to real-time tracking, to automating settlement integrations, project44 now offers the most compressive suite of modern over-the-road solutions, enabling their growing global customer base to increase operational efficiencies, reduce costs, and deliver an exceptional Amazon-like experience to their customers. The new tendering capability enables project44 customers to automatically request Truckload shipment quotes directly from their TMS, ERP, or other systems of record. After viewing quotes, they can tender their shipment without needing to login to a separate interface. Data on the shipment can also be directly integrated into the carrier’s systems after their quote is accepted. With this capability project44 customers no longer need to enter the same data into multiple systems or marketplaces. This eliminates redundant manual processes, reduces the chance for human error, and simplifies audit processes – increasing operational efficiency for shippers and carriers alike.

Tycoon Global Blockchain Real Estate Group Announced a US$4.5 Million Project

Posted by fidest press agency su martedì, 28 maggio 2019

Tycoon Global planned to establish 6 villas on this block of land, and each villa includes 4 bedrooms, 3 toilets and 2 garages. It is located in the bustling Upper East Side in Melbourne and with the good natural conditions, which has become one of the best areas in Melbourne. As real estate is the key to developing business hub in the State of Victoria, Australian Government has already invested 600 million Australian dollars for upgrading the living facilities in this area since 2016.The real estate project is adjacent to the largest shopping centre, Eastland Shopping Centre in the East Area of Melbourne. A total of 350 stores offering everything from luxury goods to daily home products are located in this shopping centre, and moreover, the people here can enjoy the foods from all over the world. In addition to that, this shopping centre is rapidly expanding, which is also an interesting proposition for all the potential investors setting their eyes on the adjacent real estate plot. The owners of dwelling units in this area would also have access to lots of high-quality educational institutes, including primary schools and middle schools, such as Eastwood School, which is only 280m from the project area, and Tintern School, which is only 680m from the project area. The real estate project also boasts of very convenient transportation options, as the closest urban rail transit station is at only 12 minutes of walking distance, and the entrance of M3 eastern expressway is only 1,200m from the project area. The ambitious real estate project is already in high demand due to multiple advantages. Green Climate Fund approves new projects, new director

Posted by fidest press agency su domenica, 10 marzo 2019

The Green Climate Fund has approved US$440 million in financing for nine projects around the world, and appointed a new executive director, Yannick Glemarec, as the institution works to distance itself from internal disputes that led the fund’s previous head to resign. The GCF was established in 2010 as a mechanism to bring together developed and developing countries to fund climate adaptation and emissions reductions projects. So far countries have pledged US$10.3 billion in funding, and the fund has committed US$5 billion across more than 100 projects.A further pledging conference is due to take place later this year, and the fund has been under pressure to demonstrate its value and its ability to disburse money. Last July, the GCF’s executive director, Howard Bamsey, quit after the fund’s board failed to approve any of a slate of US$1 billion worth of projects that were up for review. Bamsey’s resignation deepened the sense of crisis around the GCF, which had already been the target of attacks from the Trump administration.Barack Obama’s administration pledged US$3 billion to the fund, but his successor reneged on the promise with US$2 billion still outstanding. The GCF has tried to improve the flow of projects by creating a new, simplified funding process. Two of the nine projects approved in February came through this new mechanism—both of them climate resilience initiatives. Among the approved projects are a US$100 million solar power programme in Nigeria and a US$96.5 million forestry scheme in Brazil.“GCF now has a US$5 billion portfolio in 97 countries supporting low-emission, climate-resilient development,” Javier Manzanares, the interim executive director, said. “With decisions to ensure better governance, new project approvals, and a reinforced readiness programme, this board meeting has left us in great shape for our first replenishment.” Glemarec is a veteran of the development sector, having served as UN Assistant Secretary-General and deputy executive director for policy and programme at UN Women until last year, as well as being the UN Development Programme’s executive coordinator for the Global Environment Facility between 2007 and 2012.

Project Based Learning Allows School to Become the Real World

Posted by fidest press agency su domenica, 9 dicembre 2018

By David Wine. According to many experts, school must be more relevant if kids are to thrive in the fourth industrial revolution, and research indicates that students exposed to project based learning (PBL) are making significantly greater academic gains than students taught with traditional approaches. As students gain deeper knowledge about their work via PBL, they also learn real-world skills that will be invaluable to them for the rest of their lives. Thanks to real world challenges such as the United Nations’ SDG’s, project based learning is currently enjoying a revival. In this style of learning, students must address a problem that’s impacting their local or global community. The PBL process teaches students how to organize and present their thinking in a limited amount of time. Students have to collaborate with other classmates to find solutions and then present their findings to a group. All the skills involved in the work are critical for today’s world. C. M. Rubin, Founder of CMRubinWorld, asked top global teachers to share their examples of high quality PBL programs. Educator Marjo Rantanen in Finland describes an EU program in which students improved their “entrepreneurial skills” and learned to “evaluate peer work and team work results.” Prerna Kumar in India explains her students worked longer and harder and described their experience as “joyful, authentic, powerful and resourceful.” Koen Timmers, who currently has students across 6 continents researching and brainstorming 4 climate change challenges, notes: “I believe in changing people’s mindsets via education.”

SilicoDerm is a research project aimed to develop novel computational drug design methodologies applied to dermatological targetsThe application of SilicoDerm computational methodologies will facilitate the identification of active compounds for the treatment of inflammatory skin diseases, specifically atopic dermatitis and psoriasis. Almirall, S.A. and the Electronic and Atomic Protein Modeling Group (EAPM) from the Life Sciences Department of the Barcelona Supercomputing Center-Centro Nacional de Supercomputación (BSC-CNS) have entered into a research collaboration, SilicoDerm, a project focused on computational drug design applied to dermatological therapeutic targets.SilicoDerm aims to develop novel high-performance computational methodologies that facilitate the identification of active compounds for the treatment of inflammatory skin diseases of Almirall’s interest, such as psoriasis and atopic dermatitis. The project scope encompasses from the development of the computational methodologies for two novel therapeutics targets, to the synthesis and evaluation of the compounds identified in-silico. The new protein-based 3D virtual screening methodologies of SilicoDerm will allow to study thousands of compounds in a faster and a more reliable way than current computational methodologies.Dr. Jordi Gràcia, Head of Drug Discovery, Almirall, commented: “Our collaboration with BSC is an outstanding opportunity for Almirall R&D. The application of these novel computational methodologies for drug design will facilitate the identification of new compounds, and therefore, reduce the time of development of new drugs that will broaden our spectrum of potential treatments for unmet medical needs in patients with skin diseases.”At the same time, Dr. Víctor Guallar, leader of the Electronic and Atomic Protein Modelling Group from the Barcelona Supercomputing Center-Centro Nacional de Supercomputación (BSC-CNS), stated: “This project shows the maturity of the modeling techniques developed at BSC to address real life drug design projects. We invested many years of research to get here.”
This project is being financed by the Ministry of Science, Innovation and Universities (MICINN) through the grants Reto de Colaboración 2017 and co-financed by FEDER funds from the European Commission.
