CareLinx to Provide Tech-Enabled In-Home Caregiving to AARP Members

Posted by fidest press agency su giovedì, 4 ottobre 2018

CareLinx, the nation’s leading online homecare network, with more than 300,000 caregivers across the US, is now offering AARP members in-home care services. AARP members can be matched based on compatibility with certified, vetted private in-home caregivers for themselves or a loved one at reduced cost. In-home care can be a critical component to helping loved ones live independently for as long as possible. Due to declining physical or mental health, a loved one may lose the ability to manage their activities of daily living, such as grooming, bathing, toileting, or meal preparation. In-home care providers assist with such activities, enabling loved ones to age in place in the comfort and safety of their home.In-home care providers are essential given that the “caregiver support ratio” has been dramatically declining in recent years, as families are having fewer children, and living longer distances away. As the population ages, the need for paid caregivers continues to increase.Unlike traditional agencies, CareLinx is a caregiver platform — smart-matching families and caregivers directly, giving families more control and greater transparency into who cares for their loved ones. Families hire the best caregiver for their needs, with no minimum hourly contracts or constraints. This way, patients receive consistent care from the same caregiver, as opposed to agencies who may send different aides. CareLinx caregivers are also tech-enabled with digital care plans on their smartphones — enabling better quality care, with direct communication to a patient’s family, as desired. This also allows families insight into care with real-time updates including GPS tracking of timesheets and work performed.CareLinx caregivers undergo intense vetting, including: background checks, criminal database checks, the national sex offender registry, personality assessments and online reviews from previous and current clients. At the client’s request, CareLinx can also assist with enhanced security FBI fingerprinting-based criminal background checks.

Global response to Zika must provide contraceptives to all says IPPF

Posted by fidest press agency su venerdì, 5 febbraio 2016

zikaAs a case of sexually transmitted Zika infection was reported in the US yesterday, the International Planned Parenthood Federation’s (IPPF) Director General, Tewodros Melesse urged that more must be done to ensure contraceptive access is at the forefront of the response. In a statement by IPPF’s Director General, Tewodros Melesse said in response to reports of Zika in Ireland and US today. “The World Health Organization (WHO) on Monday declared Zika a Public Health Emergency of International Concern. Further guidelines are needed for a comprehensive effort to tackle the epidemic. We need more guidance from WHO to ensure that the rights of women are at the forefront of the Zika response. Updates are essential now that sexual transmission, is emerging as a potential mode of infection that puts people at risk.” It is clear that further surveillance and research is necessary to confirm if this is a possible mode of transmission. If proved that the Zika virus can be sexually transmitted, it will be important to ensure the integration of Sexually Transmitted Infections (STI) prevention strategies as part of control efforts. The Centres for Disease Control (CDC) reported that it is likely that the infection in the US was transmitted through sexual contact. IPPF will continue to monitor the situation. With this potential for sexual transmission, it is advised to ensure access to condoms and to promote use along with other forms of contraceptive methods. Male and female condoms are effective for preventing unintended pregnancies as well as the transmission of HIV and other sexually transmitted infections (STIs).In response to the calls for women to delay pregnancy in some of the affected countries, Mr Melesse said” It is essential to recognize that women have the right to make decisions about their reproduction, including if and when they have children, but this is not always possible in areas of poverty and where sexual and gender based violence rates are high.”
“Delaying pregnancy will not be an option for some, so every response must be tailored to the individual. The Zika response must include a sensitive approach to pregnant women who are concerned and need testing, while access to contraception should be available to all. Governments must ensure that their medical services have the supplies for those whose want it. We recommend that strengthening family planning programs and access to safe abortion services for those women who need it and where it is permitted by law should be included in the strategies for responding to the Zika outbreak.” IPPF is a network of sexual and reproductive health and rights organisations in 170 countries that are equipped to monitor and respond to any member of the public who wants information, services, contraception and access to abortion and are available to serve at the first point of response.

The employment Future of Europe

Posted by fidest press agency su martedì, 25 maggio 2010

The EU should open up the labour market for all European citizens to foster the free movement  of labour across the EU. It should promote the integration of workers from other European countries into the labour market of the country in which they live by means of educational  programmes and establish common standards for professional qualification. The EU should disseminate information on employment opportunities in other Member States  and positively motivate unemployed people of all ages to seek employment. The EU should  look at identifying best practice across Europe in order to minimise unemployment during the downturn (e.g. job sharing schemes, reduced working hours, early retirement etc.). It should  conduct employment surveys, provide information about the state of and experiences with the employment market in different countries, facilitate cooperation between job centres. The EU should create the same working conditions and rules for all EU citizens based on a  harmonised Labour Code, harmonising working conditions for employees, right and obligations for employers. This code should include the right to decent salaries and working hours, andit  should include the principle of equal pay for equal work between men and women as well as  workers from other EU Member States. The EU Member States should introduce in a coordinated way a minimum wage in each country, adjusted to national productivity levels and in line with the cost of living.  The EU should impose a European social dialogue involving economic social actors to define agreements between employers and employees at sectoral level e.g. on working hours, pay and conditions etc.  The EU should undertake efforts to attract qualified workers from third countries (brain gain),  helping it secure its competitive position and economic growth. This should be done through a  common labour migration policy, including an expanded BlueCard system which applies  throughout the EU and which has the possibility of prolongation after two years.

Refugee resettlement to Hungary

Posted by fidest press agency su mercoledì, 3 marzo 2010

March 2010 in Budapest brought together  representatives of the Hungarian government, the UN refugee agency UNHCR, civil society organisations and other EU member states. The debate was the last in a series of debates on refugee resettlement, which the Churches Commission for Migrants in Europe (CCME) organised in 2009-10 with partners across the EU.  The debate, which was co-organised by the Hungarian Helsinki Committee, took place in a setting largely influenced by the recent discussions on an EU resettlement programme, in particular the respective proposals currently debated in the European Parliament.  The round table debate in particular looked at the interplay of national policies and EU cooperation in selection, reception and integration of resettled refugees. Representatives of Sweden and Belgium shared insights on national resettlement programmes and underlined the  importance which resettlement had and has in their recent and upcoming EU presidency.  Considerable attention was devoted to taking stock of the particular situation of newer EU  member states engaging in resettlement: representatives of the Czech and the Romanian government reported about the resettlement programmes, which their countries had started in the last two years. While Hungarian government representatives expressed doubt that Hungary would commit to a resettlement programme prior to the general election taking place in April,  participants underlined the usefulness of such regional exchange, which would provide for “important lessons to be learnt”

Global hunger among schoolchildren

Posted by fidest press agency su martedì, 21 luglio 2009

London-  The former Ghanaian president, John Kofi Agyekum Kufuor, has today been  named a Global Ambassador against Hunger for the United Nations World Food Programme (WFP).  He joins an elite team of celebrities, sportsmen and statesmen  in stepping forward to advocate on behalf of the world’s poorest and hungriest people. WFP  Executive Director Josette Sheeran said that with the number of hungry people  in  the world expected to top one billion this year, John Kufuor is bringing  WFP  critical  support  at  a  crucial  juncture.  She added that Ambassador Kufuor  will  emphasise  the need to provide good nutrition for children in school. With  renewed attention focused on the issue of global food security, JohnKufuor  will  also  help  to underline the importance of fighting hunger on several  fronts  –  by investing in long-term agricultural development, but also  by funding WFP’s work in tackling urgent hunger needs and helping the hungry poor to access affordable and nutritious food. WFP  Ambassadors  against Hunger demonstrate commitment to the global fight against  hunger.  They  reach  out  to world leaders as well as the general public, using their talent, skills and public persona to generate awareness and  support  for WFP. John Kufuor joins a powerful team of WFP ambassadors including sporting legends such as the marathon runner, Paul Tergat and the footballer,  Kakà;  former  U.S. Senator, George McGovern, and the actress, Drew Barrymore. Key facts about WFP School Meal programmes: 66 million children go to school hungry each day – This is largely due to an increase in overall global school enrollment, and the food and financial crises have increased the ranks of the food insecure/undernourished. Approximately 70% of the 66 million are concentrated in ten countries (India, China, Democratic Republic of the Congo, Bangladesh, Indonesia, Pakistan, Ethiopia, Afghanistan, United Republic of Tanzania, Philippines). WFP calculates that US$3.2 billion is needed per year to reach all 6 million hungry school age children. US$1.1 billion would allow WFP to reach the 22 million children in Africa. Every year WFP feeds more than 20 million children in school meal programmes in some 70 countries. In 2008, WFP fed a record 23 million children. Over the past 45 years, 42 countries have taken over the responsibility from WFP for school meal programmes.
