Australia’s reigning Red Bull Cliff Diving World Series champion remains

Posted by fidest press agency su martedì, 14 maggio 2019

unbeaten while Dublin’s record weekend crowd of 145,000 witnessed the first-ever Romanian winner. With a dominant 30-point win Australia’s Rhiannan Iffland was the pinnacle of perfection in the women’s competition when the Red Bull Cliff Diving World Series debuted in Ireland’s Dún Laoghaire Harbour. Canada’s Lysanne Richard took her second podium this season while Adriana Jimenez of Mexico completed the top three. Constantin Popovici, Olympic diver from Romania, earned the top score from the jury and put an end to Gary Hunt’s (GBR) winning streak from the 27m platform in one of the closest results to date. America’s David Colturi placed third in an event held with an adjusted format due to cold water. It was the immaculate execution of his final round dive, an inward 4 somersault half twist pike, that earned the 30-year-old his first ever 10, the highest possible score, in the World Series, becoming the 14th man to win an event. Following the Romanian’s second place at the season opener in the Philippines, World Series record winner Gary Hunt expects a very tight race for the 2019 King Kahekili Trophy. The ‘brilliant Brit’ fell short of his 36th win today by just 1.85 points, however he distanced himself from Colturi in third place by 78.6 points in the chilly conditions in Dublin Bay.From the 21m platform in the women’s category, 27-year-old Iffland extended her five point day one lead over her nearest rival from Canada to create a little piece of history. Her victory in Ireland equalled the longest women’s winning streak – four in a row across seasons – held by former champion Rachelle Simpson (USA).In front of 85,000 fans gathered on the pier on Sunday, Richard kept her title hopes alive by making it two podiums in a row while 2018 runner-up Jimenez defied the wind to secure her ninth career podium. After a weekend at the season’s most northerly and newest location in Ireland the cliff diving elite will travel to the sport’s European home in Polignano a Mare, Italy. In the town where houses rise from the rocks, the athletes will dive from a private rooftop terrace in just three weeks’.
Since 2009, the Red Bull Cliff Diving World Series has provided a platform for aesthetic free-falls and dives of ever growing complexity, spotlighting the sport’s finest athletes as well as the most promising talents and in 2014 it introduced a Women’s World Series. In its 11th season, the sport’s best athletes will once again leap, twist and somersault from breathtaking heights with no protection, except their concentration, skill and physical control during seven demanding competitions around the world. Between April and September, this pure extreme sport will hit waters in natural and urban environments as well as remote and iconic venues at oceans and rivers across Asia, Europe and the Middle East to crown two new champions. Red Bull Joyride: Caverzasi e Testa rappresentano l’Italia al Crankworx di Whistler

Posted by fidest press agency su lunedì, 20 agosto 2018

Whistler Canada.

Posted by fidest press agency su domenica, 19 agosto 2018

Red Bull Cliff Diving Returns with Ultimate Test of Nerve – and the Impact of a Mike Tyson Uppercut

Posted by fidest press agency su venerdì, 13 maggio 2016

red bullThe world’s best professional cliff divers face their biggest challenge yet when the Red Bull Cliff Diving World Series returns on June 4 in Texas, USA, with the ever growing complexity of dives pushing the limits of what is physically possible, while the addition of live TV coverage piles on the psychological pressure. The platform is up to 28 metres high (92 feet), the drop takes just 3 seconds, and the athletes reach speeds of 85 kilometres (53 miles) per hour as they twist and somersault up to five times before impact. The only way to hit the water safely from that height is feet first, and even the slightest mistake in timing can mean a bruising experience for the men and women taking part. “When you have a bad landing it can feel like an uppercut from Mike Tyson,” explains Britain’s five-times series champion Gary Hunt. “Any loss of concentration can be very painful.” The 2016 season is the eighth since the launch of the World Series in 2009 and for the first time every event will be broadcast live on Red Bull TV and stations around the world. The physical workload will be tougher than ever too, as the male athletes complete an Intermediate Dive to go with the Required Dive and the two Optional Dives, which feature ever higher degrees of difficulty. Diving is a test of nerve as well as consistency and skill, with the men’s platform almost three times that of the 10m board in Olympic diving. As the athletes prepare to launch themselves from the platform, trained rescue divers wait in the water in case anything goes wrong. On land, Olympic gold medallists Greg Louganis of the United States and Russia’s Dmitri Sautin are among the pool of judges scoring dives on execution. Defending champion Gary Hunt will once again be the man to beat, while last year’s runner-up Orlando Duque of Colombia still feels he can land a second Red Bull Cliff Diving title at the age of 41.The American Steven LoBue will be one of the most closely watched athletes. LoBue is known as the Turbo Spinner, and is the only athlete who performs five somersaults in the three seconds it takes to complete a dive. Britain’s Blake Aldridge, who was Tom Daley’s synchro partner at the Beijing Olympics in 2008, has also been pushing the envelope. Aldridge racked up the highest ever degree of difficulty last year with a dive featuring 2 reverse somersaults and five twists. On the women’s side, America’s Rachelle Simpson has so far appeared all but untouchable, winning the first two editions in 2014 and 2015 from the 20m platform. The former gymnast is a Texas native and is eager to see the sport grow. When she resumes competition on familiar territory. “Now we have almost the same amount of competitions as the men. I think it will help people see that women are the real deal and not just an exhibition. It also gives us women the chance to cliff dive more and with more cliff diving comes more experience and a higher level of diving.” (photo: red bull)

Artem Silchenko wins 6th stop of the 2014 Red Bull Cliff Diving World Series and Gary Hunt secures 4th overall title

Posted by fidest press agency su domenica, 21 settembre 2014

red bull10red bull11Russia’s Artem Silchenko has dominated the penultimate stop of the season in the capital city of the Basque Country, but Gary Hunt’s second-placed finish is enough for the Brit to take back the title that he relinquished to the Russian in 2013. The rapidly-improving Kris Kolanus, from Poland, completed the podium for the first time in his World Series career as four rounds of 27m cliff diving delivered an unforgettable weekend in Bilbao. Sunshine, heavy showers and a rumble or two of thunder above the already dramatic setting of the Guggenheim Museum made for a truly spectacular event that was witnessed by an unbelievably huge crowd of 52,000 enthusiastic spectators who lined the Nervión River underneath La Salve Bridge. Cliff diving’s cream of the crop will meet again for the final three-second flights of the season in Yucatan, Mexico, on October 18, to crown the male and female champions.

Red Bull Cliff Diving World Series 2014

Posted by fidest press agency su venerdì, 19 settembre 2014

Red BullBilbao, Spain. Sixth stop of 2014 Red Bull Cliff Diving World Series is hosted in Bilbao, Spain, on September 20 The World Series is back to business and it’s Bilbao in Spain’s Basque Country to hold a one-of-a-kind 27m event off La Salve Bridge this weekend. The cliff divers are ready to take on the final two stops of the 2014 season and show their very best. It was the USA’s Steven LoBue who took his first victory in two years in stop number 5 to make up crucial ground on Gary Hunt in the overall standings. The triple champion wants his title back, but with positions 2 to 5 separated by just 130 points it’s going to be a thrilling fight. The penultimate stop of 2014 is the first-ever on Spanish soil and has the iconic Guggenheim Museum as a backdrop. On Saturday, at 2pm local time, the brave athletes will introduce their impressive sport to the Spanish people and fight for their chance to win the title.
With his second career win, 29-year-old LoBue pressed his claims for this year’s World Series title in the Azores. Colombian Orlando Duque and third-placed David Colturi, of the USA, also produced their best performances of the year in Portugal. While the leader of the overall standings, Gary Hunt, missed out on a place in the final for the first time in his career, finishing a disappointing 11th, and his nearest challenger prior to the event in Portugal, Jonathan Paredes, fared little better in 10th, meaning it’s all to dive for going into the final two World Series events of the year. Who’s the strongest and most complete diver in the current cliff diving season? Spain will provide a first hint. The diving location, whose official name is the ‘Prince and Princess of Spain Bridge’, gained popularity when the Guggenheim Museum was built right under it, its structure merging into the museum’s. The bridge, which usually welcomes the sailors returning from sea, will be the take-off point for three seconds of aesthetic freefall. With the main competition day on Saturday, the cliff diving elite will demonstrate multiple twisting and flipping action while diving into the Nervión river at 85kph from mind-blowing heights.

Red Bull Cliff Diving World Series 2014

Posted by fidest press agency su venerdì, 25 luglio 2014

redbullredbull1The 2014 Red Bull Cliff Diving World Series goes pure in Portugal on July 26 When the circular-shaped islet of Vila Franca do Campo on the Azorean island of São Miguel in the middle of the Atlantic hosts World Series competition, the sport of cliff diving returns to its roots – a high cliff, water and 14 of the world’s best athletes. It will be directly from an impressive monolith of volcanic stone and a cliff face on the outside crater wall of the islet that the divers will take off. Pure cliff diving in the required rounds, only for the more difficult optional dives will the athletes use the platform construction placed 28m above the ocean. Going into the second half of the season, the 2014 World Series returns to its pure and most fascinating natural element – a special thrill for this elite group of athletes – and the first training session at the “Princess Ring”, as the locals call the venue, was spiced up with challenging conditions in Europe’s weather lab. The two previous competitions on Portuguese soil have seen Artem Silchenko and Gary Hunt – both World Series champions – take victory. The Englishman is in perfect shape and leads the standings, while the Russian fights on despite a shoulder injury. Will the “Princess Ring” produce a new winner? The fifth stop of the season – and the third year in a row that the volcanic nature reserve has hosted cliff diving competition – starts Saturday, July 26, at 10am local time – it doesn’t get any purer than this! Red Bull Cliff Diving World Series on July 26

Posted by fidest press agency su mercoledì, 23 luglio 2014

red bullA high cliff, water and a speedo – that’s what’s needed for a cliff dive and that’s exactly what the fifth stop of the World Series on the circular-shaped Vila Franca do Campo islet offshore from São Miguel in the Azores archipelago has to offer. An impressive monolith of volcanic stone and the outside crater walls serve as take-off points for breathtaking cliff dives. The two previous competitions on Portuguese soil have seen Artem Silchenko and Gary Hunt – both World Series champions – take victory. The Englishman is in perfect shape and leads the standings, while the Russian fights with a mean shoulder injury. Will the “Princess Ring” produce a new winner?
Going into the second half, the 2014 World Series also returns to its pure and most fascinating natural side. Diving from a 28m cliff face without the support of a rock solid platform creates a special thrill and challenge for the world’s top athletes. A foreign feeling to those rather new in the sport, adjustments to the regular diving routine for everyone, even the experienced athletes. Cliff diving’s wonder boy, Jonathan Paredes, jumped onto the podium in only his third competition in 2013 and has placed second and third already this season; he is in great form and will definitely want to have a say in the results in Portugal. Besides the Mexican, America’s ‘turbo spinner’ Steven LoBue understands his five somersault dive pretty well and claims podium after podium lately. Gary Hunts, Artem Silchenkos and Orlando Duques of cliff diving, be warned – the new kids on the rocks are about to take over! The almost perfectly round islet less than one kilometre from the coastline of São Miguel – locals call it “Princess Ring” – is the ideal venue to explore this pure sport and dive straight from the cliffs. Only for the more difficult optional dives will the athletes use the platform construction placed above the ocean. Situated in the middle of the Atlantic – 1,369km west of the European mainland – the Azores archipelago comprises nine islands spread over three groups. This territory symbolizes the beginning of the grand adventure of discovery that began in the fifteenth century and led the Portuguese to have a presence in the four corners of the world. Of volcanic origin, the Azores are undoubtedly one of the last paradises in Europe – appearing often in legends of the lost continent of Atlantis. Nothing to lose have the wildcard divers who are invited for the acrobatic three-second flights into the Atlantic Ocean. Andreas Hulliger, from Switzerland, has his first appearance in a World Series competition; Alain Kohl from Luxembourg, America’s Kyle Mitrione and the Ukrainian Sasha Kutsenko complete the list of wildcards. Five international judges, among them for the first time this year Russia’s world famous Olympic diver Dmitri Sautin, will judge all 14 divers’ performances, in which they achieve speeds of 85kph. The fifth competition of the season, the third in a row on the volcanic nature reserve starts Saturday, July 26, at 10am local time.

The 2014 competitions reached their midway point this weekend in Scandinavia’s summer hot spot and 10,000 spectators provided a floating arena of boats and ships. In bright sunshine, Gary Hunt extended the overall lead to 260 points ahead of his nearest rival from 28 metres. Red Bull Cliff Diving World Series 2014

Posted by fidest press agency su sabato, 12 luglio 2014

red bullKragerø, Norway, is ready for the 2014 Red Bull Cliff Diving World Series on July 12 In a land famous for its Vikings, the ‘pearl of coastal towns’ welcomes another set of adventurers ready to take to the sea in an attempt to conquer. 14 men and eight women will dive from 27m and 20m respectively into a floating arena of boats and ships on Saturday afternoon. The holidaymakers in Scandinavia’s summer hot spot are ready to see cliff diving par excellence, as the athletes launch from a skerry in order to determine the half-time leader of the 2014 World Series.New faces on the podium, new high scores and personal bests – the sixth season has so far exceeded all expectations and the Kragerø archipelago will be host to the second stop of the first-ever Women’s World Series, which has taken the sport to a whole new level. After the kick-off competition to find a female World Series champion in Texas, the ladies get their next chance to show diving grace from two times the Olympic height. In the men’s fight for the title, the question is, will anybody be able to dispute Gary Hunt’s overall lead? He won four years ago in Kragerø and has taken back-to-back wins in Texas and Ireland. Can he make it a hat-trick here in Norway? In the southernmost municipality of the county of Telemark, and amidst almost 500 islands, islets and skerries, a 27m tall rock will be the focal point of high diving this weekend. The athletes’ breathtaking twisting and flipping action will only be stopped by entry into the Skagerrak strait at almost 90kph. Expressionist painter Edvard Munch found his personal “pearl of coastal towns” in Kragerø and, on Saturday, a special group of people are in town to search for their very own pearl. The cliff diving action starts on July 12 at 1pm local time.

The Serpent’s Lair is ready for the 2014 Red Bull Cliff Diving World Series this weekend

Posted by fidest press agency su domenica, 29 giugno 2014

red bullred bull1It was an unexpectedly warm touchdown on Ireland’s Inis Mór for the cliff diving elite’s first stop on European soil. In bright sunshine, the stage 28m above the infamous blowhole ‘Serpent’s Lair’ was tested and approved by the professionals during the first training session on Friday. The landing site, the near-perfectly rectangular shoreline window, however, earned deep respect from the likes of reigning World Series champion Artem Silchenko and Gary Hunt, the current leader of the standings. The 1,500 people lucky enough to have snapped up tickets for the acrobatic three-second flights will witness 60 high-class dives into the natural pool over the course of the next two afternoons.  If 30-year-old Russian Silchenko wants to defend his title he’ll need to hold Englishman Gary Hunt at bay. By mastering his latest piece of diving art during the US-leg – a front 3 somersaults with 3 ½ twists pike – the three-time champion has made a clear statement: I’m here and I want the title back! Above all, the Brit still has to settle old scores with this location after a disappointing result two years ago. He’ll definitely be the man to watch, but don’t forget the other 2014 competition winner, the fellow Brit, Blake Aldridge. As the overall standings are tight, the fight for the top positions will be fierce and the athletes will face probably the most challenging conditions of the year.  Inis Mór, the big island among a group of three is home to the legendary Serpent’s Lair – ‘Poll na Peist’ in Gaelic – a ‘blowhole’ to subterranean caverns, which spurt out water each day as high tide approaches. What gives this place an inexplicable and mysterious nature is the almost rectangular shape of the hole, filled with 15°C water. Ancient mythology talks of a sea serpent which lived beneath the entrance. The sound of screeching, stormy winds is said in myth to be the great serpent making its presence felt. Only years of highly professional preparation, excellent diving technique and physical and mental strength allow for acrobatic manoeuvres at speeds of 85kph and safe rip entries.  After masterclass performances in America’s Deep South three weeks ago, can this competition in chillier conditions on the Aran Islands become another one for the record books? The high diving action at Serpent’s Lair starts Saturday and Sunday at 12pm.
It’s pure, it’s fast and it takes your breath away. Cliff divers leap aesthetically from almost three times the Olympic height and hit the water at speeds of 85kph, protected only by their concentration, skill and physical control. Since 2009, the Red Bull Cliff Diving World Series has featured the biggest talents, the most promising newcomers, and since 2013 has also provided a platform for women. Red Bull Cliff Diving World Series diver catches a bridal bouquet while leaping from a castle balcony into Lake Garda Thursday afternoon saw World Series competitior Michal Navratil of the Czech Republic catch the bouquet from a „wedding couple“ at the popular wedding location at Scaliger Castle in Malcesine while jumping from a 24 metre balcony during a shoot for a video production in the build up to the fifth stop of the Red Bull Cliff Diving World Series. Overlooking Lake Garda the famous castle, which was supposedly built by the Lombards, destroyed and rebuilt, owned amongst others by bishops, the Visconti family, the French and Austrians before it was declared a national monument in 1902, is a popular wedding venue known throughout Europe. For the coming weekend, though, the high diving elite will conquer the historical building to indulge their one and only love – leaping from dizzying heights and enjoying a three second flight spiced up with twists and flips. 27m above the lake, World Series leader Gary Hunt and eleven more daring men will open the second half of the 2011 season on Sunday, July 24, at 4.00pm. Their breathtaking performances will entice an armada of rubber boats, surfboards and spectators into the water around the castle. For all those who cannot witness the world-class high diving competition in person, the action can be watched as a live webcast on http://www.redbull.tv/Redbulltv

Red Bull Cliff Diving World Series

Posted by fidest press agency su venerdì, 17 giugno 2011

La Rochelle on Saturday, June 18, ‘La Grande Nation’ will have its eyes on the ‘little cliff’; only between 7pm and 9pm is the tide in the cold, 16-degree-centigrade, water of the Bay of Biscay high enough to secure the required water depth of five metres. For all those who cannot be onsite for the world-class high diving competition, the midway stop will be screened live on ServusTV from 7.30pm (CEST) with a live webcast on redbull.com/tv.
Three down, three to go after France – with seven competitions in the 2011 World Series calendar, La Rochelle represents a pivotal moment in the Series. Gary Hunt, reigning World Series champion, comes to France as the overall leader and, after a moderate start to the last competition, the Brit has been working on his diving programme: “I’ve learnt inward double half in training so I’ll try that as my first dive in this event. The massive crowd here in La Rochelle always motivates me to perform really well.”
Since 2009, the catacombs of the Saint Nicolas Tower have come alive each year when the world’s best high divers come to town. 120 steps to the highest platform in the entire competition, the 27.5m structure will be the focus of attention for up to 70,000 spectators, the biggest crowd ever for a World Series event. Why? This breathtaking action is only to be seen once a year and never before has a French diver had a better opportunity to step up onto the podium. Cyrille Oumedjkane can be sure of his compatriots’ support!

A mexican day in the life of a Cliff Diver

Posted by fidest press agency su lunedì, 11 aprile 2011

The Red Bull Cliff Diving World Series gets into the rhythm for the second stop in Mexico Coming to Mexico means a change of pace. The day begins relaxed and the Latin American spirit and love for life builds up hourly before it peaks as the air cools down again late in the evening. This rhythm applies perfectly to the high diving elite who have come to the Yucatán Peninsula for the second competition of the Red Bull Cliff Diving World Series this weekend at Cenote Ik Kil. Like the Mexican lifestyle, concentrated and intense preparation leads to a firework of dives on competition day. The location for the second stop of the 2011 World Series is a root-covered sinkhole in the neighbourhood of the pre-Columbian Mayan city of Chichen Itza. One has to leave civilization behind and follow the lonely and empty road with its natural and green noise protection wall to find the entrance to the park of Cenote Ik Kil. To provide the athletes with the same light conditions as during the competition, the first training is scheduled for 11am; about half an hour before the joyful chatting and joking in all different kinds of languages and English accents heard around the sacred well turns into deafening silence. The twelve athletes have just started their mental and physical preparation for the day’s first dives. Current World Series leader Orlando Duque (COL) explains why: “Once we are getting ready, it’s different, it’s business. Everybody is focused a hundred percent. You are diving. You are ready. Your mind is set to what you are doing. That is when we stop joking and get more serious, because it is a serious game.” As soon as it is time for the first three-second flights, all energy is put into the jump off the 27m platform. Numerous somersaults and twists let the divers speed up to 85kph and the thunderous sound which is created when the divers hit the water gives a vivid impression of how much power is produced during the free fall.Red Bull Cliff Diving World Series 2011. New divers, spectacular locations and creative tricks in the air – the Red Bull Cliff Diving World Series has come up with a few innovations for the third edition in 2011. Between March and September, the world’s best high divers fight for the title of World Series champion in seven challenging competitions. For the breathtaking three-second flights between take-off and hitting the water smoothly from a height of at least 26.5 metres, extraordinary natural and demanding urban venues have been chosen: kicking off in March in Rapa Nui (CHI), the World Series returns to Mexico (Yucatán) in April. The first competition on European soil takes place in Greece (Athens) in May, followed by France (La Rochelle) and Italy (Malcesine) in successive months. After a trip to the United States (Boston) in August, the grand final is hosted by the Ukraine (Yalta) on September 4. Red Bull Cliff Diving competitions are judged by five international judges with scores awarded according to the degree of difficulty and execution of the dive. (dt1104..)

Red bull a Polignano mare

Posted by fidest press agency su domenica, 8 agosto 2010
