Caritas Internationalis General Assembly: “One Human Family, One Common Home”

Posted by fidest press agency su giovedì, 23 maggio 2019

vaticanoBy Michelle Hough. On 23rd May 2019 with a strong call to work together to face the unprecedented scale of difficulties facing humanity.“We are driven by our collective belief that we are part of one human family, sharing one common home,” says Caritas’ President, Cardinal Luis Antonio Tagle. “The sheer number of displaced people, the spread of conflict and the environmental disaster which is becoming more and more evident, together threaten to overwhelm us – unless we urgently act together against these problems as one family with one home,” he says. They will welcome Maria José Alexander, who is the youngest director of a national Caritas, Caritas Somalia. Maria José will also speak at the General Assembly on the importance of mobilising young people and on the grassroots work of Caritas. “The future is made of us, let’s Share the Journey”. This is the title of an interactive collage of photos of migrants and re     fugees past and present, leaders and people associated with migration. After the press conference, Cardinal Tagle will paste a photograph of his grandfather – a child migrant to the Philippines from China – into the artwork. During the General Assembly, photos to complete it will be pasted by Caritas representatives and migrants. The three-metre high artwork has been created for Caritas’ global Share the Journey campaign on behalf of migrants and refugees by Roman artist Stefano Maria Girardi. It provokes reflections on how – although as individuals we are all very different – we still share one common humanity. Pope Francis will celebrate mass in St Peter’s Basilica for the General Assembly at 5.00pm the same day.
Cardinal Tagle will be confirmed as Caritas President for a second four-year term at the General Assembly, which will run from 23rd to 28th May at the Hotel Ergife in Rome. For the first time, a forum for Caritas Women and one for Caritas Youth will take place on the 22nd May.The international meeting, which is held every four years, will elect a new Secretary General, Treasurer and other senior officials. The confederation’s strategic direction for the next four years will be agreed and important new policies such as that on safeguarding will be discussed.Guest speakers include José Graziano da Silva, director general of the UN’s Food and Agriculture Organisation, FAO, and Cardinal Pedro Barreto, archbishop of Huancayo, Peru, and a leading light of REPAM, the Catholic Church’s network defending the rights of people living in the Amazon. https://www.caritas.org/ga2019

The Romans struggling with their mayor

Posted by fidest press agency su giovedì, 20 dicembre 2018

Rome. Since the first woman was elected mayor of the eternal city, my friends around the world had one more reason to contact me and ask me what I thought, but especially if it was able to deal with the heavy legacy left by her male colleagues. In more recent times they teased me to those who considered the blatant failures in not having solved problems such as garbage collection, street potholes, urban transport, the care of parks and gardens and the various “news scoops” on the rats running around on heaps of rubbish abandoned next to the bins, sheep that graze the grass of archaeological sites and such amenities. What should I have answered? What was all fake? I limited myself to a timid defense of the fact that the mayor had inherited a city in a comatose state and that the remedies, thanks to the bureaucracy, required more time to be realized. At the same time I wondered where my friends drew so many “lucubri” messages of the Roman ruin and if there was not the defeatist hand of a certain political class that marches stiff and anachronistic on the “so much worse the better”. After all, many other big cities in the world are not better than Rome but in many cases they wash their dirty clothes at home. It is not that I fully share this logic of hiding the dust under the carpet, but I would have preferred that the buildings of Roman politics there was the awareness that the discredit profuse to full hands is likely to leave an indelible mark on the history of the eternal city and ends with the prejudice also to the good that could be produced. But beyond the criticisms that can be made, just or unjust they are, in my opinion the most serious fault that imputes the mayor is his inability to get in tune with his administrates. Many consider it a foreign object that knows how to administer and live the feelings of the Romans within the four walls of the building and not between people going where the heart of the Romans pulses and understand that it is appropriate to make the existing problems feel looking for a popular involvement. I mean that many eyes are observing but very few are those who can talk with the competent offices to point out, for example, the bins forgotten in the waste collection and that overflow, the potholes, etc. This is because it lacks a sensitive interface and ready to receive messages and to intervene to take responsibility for the disservice and to repair it. Probably it is not entirely the solution to the problem but it certainly helps the Romans to realize that the troubles of the capital are not resolved with aseptic and sometimes ungenerous criticism but with the conscious and direct involvement of those who live there. Women’s Ordination Advocates to Host Parallel Synod Events in Rome

Posted by fidest press agency su sabato, 29 settembre 2018

Rome Thursday, 4 October, 15:00 Casa Santa Maria alle Fornaci, Piazza Santa Maria alle Fornaci, 27 A panel discussion, “Discerning Women: Voices Outside the Synod,” will feature the voices, witness and testimony of women called to priesthood, international feminist theologians, and activists calling for a Church that works for justice and inclusion in the world.Women’s Ordination Conference resists the Vatican’s attempts to silence the voices of women in decision-making and sacramental roles by lifting up all women who are called to priesthood and all people who call for equality in Church structures. The pain of this closed door is felt deeply around the world and perpetuates discrimination and injustices against women and girls in society.”One of the things that the current crisis in the Church brings to light yet again is the reality that when you have men alone in positions of decision-making and authority, it creates a clerical culture where the reputation of priests gets prioritized over the needs of the people of God,” said Kate McElwee, Executive Director of Women’s Ordination Conference. “It is more urgent than ever to create a new way of being church that includes people of all genders together in transparent, accountable sacramental leadership.”

Posted by fidest press agency su venerdì, 27 ottobre 2017

carlo climatiRome.

Activists are protesting around the world on President Trump’s inauguration day, holding banners that say “Build bridges, not walls”. Around the world, corporations and political elites are increasingly sowing division based on nationality, ethnicity, religion, class and gender. The election of Donald Trump to the Presidency of the United States makes this truth unavoidable. They do it because they can much more easily pursue profits and power in a context of fear and distrust.

Laerzio Cassano. Entitled “The Church Up Close: Covering Catholicism in the Age of Francis.” and conducted in English, the seminar is open to all working journalists, but the number of participants is limited. Previous seminars have seen the participation of reporters from media outlets such as The New York Times, The Guardian, The Times, The Wall Street Journal, The Daily Telegraph, Il Corriere della Sera, El País, the BBC and Le Monde, to name a few.Among this year’s guest speakers are George Cardinal Pell, Prefect of the Secretariat for the Economy; Peter Cardinal Kodwo Appiah Turkson, Prefect of the Pontifical Council for Justice and Peace; Msgr. Antoine Camilleri, Under-Secretary for Relations with States Vatican Secretariat of State; Rev. Samir Khalil Samir, from Pontifical Oriental Institute (Rome); Rev. Geno Sylva, from the Pontifical Council for the Promotion of the New Evangelization; Fr. Sebastian Vazhakala, General Superior and co-founder of the Contemplative Missionaries of the Charity (Sta. Teresa of Calcutta); Prof. Maria Luisa Di Pietro, Member of the National Bioethics Committee (Italy), and Greg Burke, Director Press Office of the Holy See.The Church Up Close provides an insight into the nature of the Catholic Church and the inner workings of the Vatican. Conference sessions and interactive workshops address topics from the financial life of the Holy See, the future of the marriage, the reform of the Curia, Christians and the Arab world, the Magisterium of Pope Francis, new challenges in Bioethics, Ecumenism and Inter-religious Dialogue, and the state of the Church in Asia or Africa. In addition to conference sessions, this week-long seminar features on-site visits and personal meetings with curial officials and veteran Vatican correspondents. The goal is to provide both a basic understanding of the Vatican and an in-depth analysis of specific hot-button issues regarding the Church today. Journalists seeking to meet the demand with quality information are given the opportunity with The Church Up Close. According to the president of the organizing committee, Rev. Prof. John Wauck, “Covering an institution as old and as large as the Catholic Church has always been a huge challenge, and in today’s shrinking world, it’s becoming ever more necessary to tell even local stories about the Church from a global perspective. The seminar should help reporters do that. What’s more, Rome is an ideal setting for reflecting on religion and the media with journalists from around the world.”

Degrees of Abstraction

Posted by fidest press agency su giovedì, 17 marzo 2016

llarena_vanishedRome (Italy) RossoCinabro, Via Raffaele Cadorna 28, from 21 March to 8 April 2016 Opening from Monday to Friday 11am. The exhibition presented a group of some works in the RossoCinabro’s permanent collection, representing a spectrum of abstract art. Artists make abstract artworks by abstracting the subject matter in their work. That is, they simplify or distort the people, places, or things they are showing in their work. Some artists abstract their subject matter just a little. Others make their work so abstract the subject matter is difficult to identify. Abstraction may characterize a period or movement as well but at the same time, it is a more individualized process, such that the degree and type of abstraction often serves as a clue to the artist’s individual style.
Abstract, idealized, and stylized are sometimes used to mean the same thing: a process of simplifying or standardizing a real object in some way, such that the representation no longer looks naturalistic. Sometimes stylization results from the materials used in the art work, because some textures or qualities of materials lend themselves to certain forms more easily than to others. Many of these artists have ignored traditional distinctions between abstraction and representation, choosing to create works that are uniquely personal.
Recognizing the degree of abstraction and the reasons for abstraction is probably the key to understanding the artist’s goals and meaning.

Conference at Rome’s Luiss Guido Carli University to explore how to leverage Italy’s business aviation market

Posted by fidest press agency su venerdì, 11 settembre 2015

ebaaOn 29 September, the European Business Aviation Association (EBAA), in partnership with the Italian Business Aviation Association (IBAA) is hosting a conference at Rome’s Luiss Guido Carli University to explore how to leverage Italy’s business aviation market as an engine for economic growth. The event will bring together business aircraft operators, service providers, and financiers from across Europe, and senior Italian Government officials, including Mr Vito Cozzoli, Head of the Cabinet, Italian Ministry of Economic Development; and Mr Alessio Quaranta, Director General, Italian Civil Aviation Authority (ENAC). Italy is one of the four largest business aviation markets in Europe – along with France, Germany and the UK. But in recent years growth in the region has been stunted by economic uncertainty and the misperception that business is a ‘luxury’ (case in point: Italy’s introduction in 2012 of the ‘luxury tax’ on business flights). The result is a relatively tough environment for business and business aviation, and an environment that thwarts the engine of economic growth.“8% of air traffic movements per year in Italy are business aviation flights, and the Italian business aircraft fleet consists of 157 aircraft; two-thirds being light jets and turboprops fit for purpose,” said EBAA CEO, Fabio Gamba. “The market is so significant to the country, and faces such unique challenges, that we felt a forum was necessary in order to better understand the current situation and try to iron out any kinks that might be getting in the way of progress.”Internationally renowned Italian clothing manufacturers and retailers for instance, so central to the economic interests of the peninsula, rely on business aviation to compete in a tough and increasingly global sector. Departing from airports across the country – Milan, Rome, Naples, Venice, Florence, Bologna, and a vast number of small and regional airports – business aviation is a vital valve at the heart of business in and out of Italy. It is also the veins within the country, connecting Italy’s North, South, and the numerous islands.Just how business aviation is adding value to Italian industry – and not just for big business, but the plethora of Italian SMEs too – will be discussed at September’s Forum. The current state of the industry will be addressed, along with the challenges impacting the sector, and the measures that must be taken to enable a more business-friendly atmosphere that will act as a catalyst for growth in the sector, and for the country.
About EBAA: The European Business Aviation Association (EBAA) was founded in 1977 to defend the interests of business aviation. Today, more than 800 business aviation companies (direct members or members of associate organisations) rely on the EBAA to protect their business interests. It is the only voice to represent business aviation among the European institutions. (foto:ibaa)

WJC Expresses Outrage at Anti-Semitic Incident in Rome

Posted by fidest press agency su giovedì, 30 gennaio 2014

ronaldlauderfrance-020613NEW YORK—The World Jewish Congress today expressed outrage at the anti-Semitic vandalism visited this past weekend on Roman Jewish institutions. Boxes containing severed pigs heads were sent to the Israel embassy in Rome and the city’s main synagogue, and anti-Semitic graffiti appeared on at least one building, even as the city was preparing to observe International Holocaust Remembrance Day today.
“This disgusting and cowardly act shows that the evils of anti-Semitism remain alive in the heart of Western Europe,” said WJC President Ronald S. Lauder. “We are gratified by the outpouring of support for Rome’s Jewish community from Mayor Ignazio Marino and others and the determination of Roman authorities to investigate the incident.”

Posted by fidest press agency su venerdì, 24 gennaio 2014

roma_panorama_2012_febbraio_00001The European Society of Cardiology (ESC) announced today that Rome was chosen as the venue for the ESC Congress 2016. The ESC Congress is the largest cardiology meeting in the world. This will be the first time it comes to Rome. 30,000 cardiovascular medical professionals are expected in the Italian capital for the 5 day event from, 27 to 31 August 2016.The announcement was made today by Isabel Bardinet, CEO of the ESC: “Italy is a strong contributor to the ESC and its activities and Rome is a very attractive destination, not to mention its history and the culture. This should make it an unforgettable venue for our delegates.”Marta Leonori , member of the Tourism Council for the City of Rome, said: “This is wonderful news for our city! Rome’s heritage is unique and it is also a modern and sophisticated destination. ESC delegates will be able to combine work with entertainment. The ESC Congress will bring new business opportunities for the Italian Tourism Industry. We are very excited about hosting this prestigious event and we would like to assure the ESC of our warmest welcome.”The President of Fiera Roma, Mauro Mannocchi explained: “Fiera Roma, which opened in 2006, is a modern, environmentally friendly and efficient exhibition venue. Fiera Roma looks forward to being the meeting point for the most eminent cardiologists in the world. We are fully equipped to receive this prominent scientific event and we are, of course, totally committed to making this a unique experience for ESC Congress 2016 delegates.”The European Society of Cardiology represents 56 national societies and 36 affiliated societies thus giving it a wide global representation. Professor Panos Vardas, President of the ESC, concluded: “Rome enjoys a strategic position at the heart of the Mediterranean, making it a convenient meeting point for our delegates. I would also like to highlight that Italian cardiologists are very active members of the ESC, sending large number of delegates to our events and one of the top abstract submitters of past congresses (1), so it is fitting that ESC Congress comes to Rome. For five days in August 2016, the eternal city will be at the heart of innovation in the field of cardiology.”Cardiovascular Disease (CVD) causes over 4 million deaths in Europe every year. It is the main cause of death in women in all countries of Europe (2). More information on the ESC Congress or on CVD can be obtained from the ESC Press Office.

Trasporti Roma: debiti Atac

Posted by fidest press agency su giovedì, 28 novembre 2013

A Roma, direbbe qualcuno. (Primo Mastrantoni, segretario Aduc)

Alemanno e i rifiuti a Roma

Posted by fidest press agency su mercoledì, 28 agosto 2013
