Savannah, United States – June 5th, 2018 This one-day seminar will be addressing how a Business Associate needs to comply with HIPAA and when it applies. The primary goal is to ensure everyone is well educated on what is myth and what is reality with this law, as there is so much misleading information regarding the do’s and don’ts with HIPAA. I want to add clarity for Business Associates, and also help businesses comply. Not only is this necessary due to the requirements of HIPAA but also to satisfy many customers who require much more these days than just signing a Business Associate Agreement.Times have changed, and unfortunately, many businesses are losing clients or are unable to get new clients due to problems with their compliance program or lack of a compliance program. I will explain real life scenarios as well as best practices and excellent resources you can use to get your house in order before it’s too late.It will also address major changes under the Omnibus Rule and any other applicable updates for 2018.I will speak on specific experiences from over 17 years of working as an outsourced compliance auditor and expert witness on multiple HIPAA cases, and will thoroughly explain how patients are now able to get cash remedies for wrongful disclosures of private health information and how this ALSO applies to Business Associates.
More importantly, I will show you how to limit those risks by simply taking proactive steps and utilizing best practices.I will uncover myths versus reality as it relates to this very enigmatic law based on over 1000 risk assessments performed as well as years of experience in dealing directly with the Office of Civil Rights and HIPAA auditors. In addition, this course will cover the highest risk factors for being sued as well as being audited (these two items tend to go hand in hand)

Seminar highlights links between religious freedom and economic prosperity

Posted by fidest press agency su lunedì, 7 marzo 2016

seminarLONDON — In Iran, the Baha’i community continues to endure intense persecution solely based on religious belief, in blatant violation of a fundamental human right. Unfortunately, throughout the world, freedom of religion or belief is one of the most violated rights.
An emerging body of research is suggesting that ensuring such freedoms within business could not only address a major social ill, but also be an unrecognized asset to economic recovery and growth. On March 2, 2016, a seminar held at the UK parliament, and hosted by the All-Party Parliamentary Group on the Baha’i Faith, heard that there is a strong correlation between religious freedom, economic freedom, and other civil political freedoms.”These findings are useful in our discussions with business,” said panelist Professor Brian seminar1Grimm, President of the Religious Freedom & Business Foundation. “And there’s a lot that the business world can offer to the human rights community.”Business leaders and entrepreneurs, it was suggested, might develop a long-term interest in engaging with this area of the international human rights discourse, while their perspectives on these matters might also add an important dimension to the understanding of government and parliamentarians.”Business is the crossroads of culture, commerce, and creativity. What brings everyone together and produces a successful service, innovation, or production is a common goal, “said Prof. Grim, who highlighted the efforts of one major automobile manufacturer which, realizing it employs people from almost 140 countries, offers an annual award for intercultural and interfaith innovation. The seminar, which attracted some 70 participants — including parliamentarians, civil servants, academics, human rights activists, business professionals, and faith community leaders — was opened by Jim Shannon MP, who also chairs the All-Party Parliamentary Group for International Freedom of Religion or Belief.”Religious freedom is a fundamental component of peace and stability,” Mr. Shannon said. “Without religious freedom, talented people are pushed away.” (photos: seminar)

Delhi seminar explores role of youth in social transformation

Posted by fidest press agency su sabato, 20 febbraio 2016

seminario baha'iNEW DELHI — India has the largest youth population in the world, a reality that holds both tremendous promise and potential challenges for the future of the country.Recently, the Indian Institute of Public Administration and the Office of Public Affairs of the Bahá ‘ ís of India organized a seminar at the India International Centre on the subject of youth, entitled “The Role of Youth in Social Transformation. Over 40 people attended the event on February 10, 2016, comprising representatives of civil society, government, media, and faith organizations.Young people are needed as leaders and decision makers in spaces where the course and direction of society as a whole are determined. Examining this theme, the seminar looked specifically at youth in community building, the impact of media on youth, and the contribution of youth in addressing climate change.”It’s necessary to include the voices of youth in a meaningful way,” said Farida Vahedi, a Baha’i working as the head of Youth Empowerment and Capacity Building at the City Montessori School in Lucknow and convenor of the Quality Education Forum of India.”Integrating young people into formal structures of power is of course advantageous for a variety of reasons, but simply feeding ‘ young ‘ voices into ‘ old ‘ systems, if unaccompanied by more substantive forms of participation, runs the risk of degenerating into mere tokenism.”Representing the Indian Government, Kiran Soni Gupta, Additional Secretary of the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports, agreed. “The concept of leadership needs to be redefined,” Ms Gupta said in her talk at the beginning of the day, setting the tone for the consultation that followed. “It is the youth who can bring a fresh wave of ideas and innovation in society.” This theme was the root of the issues explored during the first panel, which addressed the role of youth in community building.
The seminar was the second co-organized by the the Indian Institute of Public Administration and the Office of Public Affairs of the Bahá ‘ ís of India on the subject of youth in society.

COMECE-CEC Dialogue Seminar on Human trafficking

Posted by fidest press agency su venerdì, 28 novembre 2014

human traffickingAn estimated 800,000 women, men, and children are victims of human trafficking within the EU today. Up to 60% of the victims originate from EU states. The EU and its member states urgently need to implement the legal framework already in place and to intensify cooperation with civil society and church organisations that work with victims at the grassroots level. This was one of the main messages of the Dialogue Seminar organised by COMECE and the Church and Society Commission of CEC in cooperation with CCME in dialogue with the EU Commission on 27 November.Human trafficking is a modern form of slavery, a criminal activity, and a lucrative global enterprise. An estimated 16% of victims are children, and they can be sold for up to 40.000 EUR . In addition to sexual exploitation, forced labour and domestic workers, human trafficking is also taking new forms such as for reproductive purposes, including surrogacy and illegal adoption. Dialogue participants repeatedly called for more reliable and comprehensive data, including accurate estimated figures to better inform policy and faith-based responses. They also brought extensive advocacy and policy experience to the dialogue, and heard direct accounts about human trafficking in Europe.Victims of human trafficking need more protection and assistance through the broader implementation of existing legislation. Victims of human trafficking should not be punished for acts committed while being trafficked. Ongoing financial support of civil society and church organisations will contribute to achieving these aims.In the legal field, the EU has already adopted a series of directives and instruments. However, these instruments need updating to cover new forms of trafficking and to assure further implementation at the national level. In response to the complexity and seriousness of these issues, COMECE and CEC/CCME intend to provide the EU Commission a compilation of their proposals and recommendations to fight human trafficking in the coming weeks.
COMECE is the Commission of the Bishops’ Conferences of the European Community. It is made up of Bishops delegated by the 27 Catholic Bishops’ Conferences of the European Union and it has a permanent Secretariat in Brussels.
