MEPs want legally sound solutions for obtaining e-evidence in cross border cases

The EU must strike the balance between law enforcement needs and the protection of fundamental rights, according to the Civil Liberties Committee.MEPs backed with amendments two legislative proposals to simplify the existing procedures for obtaining electronic evidence with cross border elements for law enforcement and judicial authorities in criminal procedures.The European Production Order or Preservation Order (Orders) will be used by judges and prosecutors to obtain electronic information from service providers in cross-border criminal investigations when searching for subscriber data, IP addresses, traffic and content data.Under the draft legislation, orders to produce subscriber data and IP addresses for the sole purpose of identifying the person could be issued for any criminal offence and should be addressed directly to the service provider and simultaneously to executing authority and executed within 10 days or in emergency cases within 16 hours.But orders for access to traffic and content data should be subject to stricter requirements and only issued for criminal offences punishable in the issuing state by a prison sentence of at least 3 years. This stricter requirements would not apply for offences committed exclusively online, notably for cybercrime, terrorism related offences or child sexual abuse online.Executing authorities will have 10 days to decide if they want to raise any objections to the orders received. If no objection is raised within the time limit, the order can be executed. The executing state can invoke a list of non-recognition grounds and for example take into account specific rules on criminal liability in relation to journalist and freedom of expression in other media under the law of the executing state, or for example if there is incompatibility with fundamental rights obligations. MEPs demand that if the issuing state of an order regarding traffic and content data is subject to an Article 7 TEU procedure, the service provider should transmit the requested data only after receiving written approval from the executing authority.

A leading developer and operator of infrastructure projects for the college and university market, has reached financial close on the third phase of Northside, a mixed-use student housing community for The University of Texas at Dallas. The $38M expansion of the development with partners Dallas-based developer Wynne/Jackson and equity partner Star America will add an additional 370 beds to the community. The third phase of the project will include mid-rise apartments located on a 5-acre lot adjacent to Phase 2, as part of the dynamic Northside community that serves the more than 25,000 students, faculty, staff and young professionals of the University and greater Richardson, TX area. Upon completion, the apartments will be leased and managed by Balfour Beatty Communities, as with the Phase 1 and 2 units.The project will be built by Dallas-based Andres Construction, with Architecture Demarest as the lead design firm—the same firms responsible for the successful delivery of Phase 2. ABB Robotics to Develop Solutions for the Hospital of the Future

ABB announced that it will introduce collaborative robots to medical laboratories as it opens a new healthcare hub at the Texas Medical Center (TMC) innovation campus in Houston, Texas. The facility will be ABB’s first dedicated healthcare research center when it opens in October 2019. Airgain Introduces 6GHz Wi-Fi Embedded Antenna Solutions

Airgain, Inc. (NASDAQ: AIRG), a leading provider of advanced antenna technologies used to enable high performance wireless networking across a broad range of devices and markets, including consumer, enterprise, and automotive, today announced the release of the Profile X6 series of embedded antennas providing full support for the new 6GHz (5.9-7.125GHz) ISM band spectrum. These new antennas will help Wi-Fi system designers adapt to future technological changes, enabling a more seamless transition to 6GHz support once the new spectrum becomes available for Wi-Fi.
In October 2018, the FCC voted to allocate up to 1.2GHz of mid-band 6GHz Wi-Fi spectrum for next generation Wi-Fi systems. Following the Notice of Proposed Rule Making released in late 2018 by the FCC, the spectrum may be made available as early as late 2019. The 6GHz spectrum will be supported only with the latest Wi-Fi technology, namely Wi-Fi 6 (802.11ax). Wi-Fi system designers including carriers and OEMs are deep into device design refresh cycles based on Wi-Fi 6; however, since 6GHz is not ready they have to decide to wait and risk being late to market, or to proceed without 6GHz and face another design refresh cycle later.“Our Wi-Fi 6 ready, 6GHz embedded antenna solutions enable Wi-Fi system designers to build their Wi-Fi 6 systems with antenna support for both 5GHz and 6GHz from day one.
