Researchers Use Algorithm from Netflix Challenge to Speed Up Biological Imaging

Posted by fidest press agency su lunedì, 18 marzo 2019

Researchers have repurposed an algorithm originally developed for Netflix’s 2009 movie preference prediction competition to create a method for acquiring classical Raman spectroscopy images of biological tissues at unprecedented speeds. The advance could make the simple, label-free imaging method practical for clinical applications such as tumor detection or tissue analysis.
In Optica, The Optical Society’s journal for high-impact research, a multi-institutional group of researchers report that a computational imaging approach known as compressive imaging can increase imaging speed by reducing the amount of Raman spectral data acquired. They demonstrate imaging speeds of a few tens of seconds for an image that would typically take minutes to acquire and say that future implementations could achieve sub-second speeds. The researchers accomplished this feat by acquiring only a portion of the data typically required for Raman spectroscopy and then filling in the missing information with an algorithm developed to find patterns in Netflix movie preferences. While the algorithm did not win Netflix’s $1 million prize, it has been used to meet other real-world needs, in this case a need for better biological imaging.“Although compressive Raman approaches have been reported previously, they couldn’t be used with biological tissues because of their chemical complexity,” said Hilton de Aguiar, leader of the research team at École Normale Supérieure in France. “We combined compressive imaging with fast computer algorithms that provide the kind of images clinicians use to diagnose patients, but rapidly and without laborious manual post-processing.”

SmartBear Empowers Developers to Create Quality Software at an Increased Speed

Posted by fidest press agency su domenica, 22 aprile 2018

Mainz (Germany) Demonstrations of SmartBear’s Software Quality Tools – Tuesday, April 24 – Thursday, April 26, 2018 “Programming Collaboration in the Software Development Process,” Presented by Ronan Trainor and Damien Walsh on Wednesday, April 25, 2018, 3:00 p.m. – 4:00 p.m. CEST Rheingoldhalle Mainz, Bankettabteilung, z. Hd. Frau Marleen Nillius, Rheinstrasse 66
SmartBear, the leader in software quality tools for teams, empowers developers to create quality APIs and software applications at an increased speed. The company will be exhibiting its complete suite of software quality tools, including tools that help teams collaborate on code; design, develop, virtualize and test APIs; and deploy and monitor applications at JAX, taking place on Monday, April 23 – Friday, April 27, 2018 in Mainz, Germany.
With the increased velocity of software development, collaboration among teams is critical in maintaining quality. SmartBear provides Collaborator for collaboration on documents, code, and test cases. Collaboration and standardization go hand in hand and are essential for developing at speed. SmartBear offers SwaggerHub, an integrated API design and documentation platform that drives standardization in teams.
Additionally, SmartBear provides an array of tools for developers embracing the “shift left” trend. SmartBear empowers developers to create automated tests from within their development environments with TestLeft and TestServer. With the explosion of APIs, there are more dependencies for testing; remove them to enable rapid development with ServiceV Pro. Developers are increasingly keeping a closer pulse on their APIs post deployment; SmartBear offers AlertSite for API monitoring.SmartBear’s Ronan Trainor, API Sales Engineering Team Leader, EMEA and Damien Walsh, Technical Sales Engineer, will be presenting, “Programming Collaboration in the Software Development Process,” at JAX on Wednesday, April 25, 2018. Feedback is a key component of moving your development forward whether you’re sending pull requests, commenting on Jira tickets, or doing long project sessions. How can you program this feedback and collaboration as a standard in your development process without interruptions? Ronan and Damien’s talk will discuss actionable strategies that help teams unlock the full potential of any workflow, from design through documentation and peer code review. Java developers at JAX will be able to see SmartBear’s complete suite of software quality tools. In addition to those mentioned above, SmartBear will also be demonstrating SoapUI Pro, LoadUI Pro, TestComplete, CrossBrowserTesting, and QAComplete.
JAX is focusing on JAVA Core- and Enterprise-Technologies, Spring-Ecosystem, JavaScript, Continuous Delivery and DevOps. For more information, visit: https://jax.de/en.

Posted by fidest press agency su mercoledì, 5 agosto 2009

Toronto, Ontario Based on the list price for the Q400 NextGen aircraft, the firm order contract is valued at approximately $159 million US, and could rise to $332 million US if the five options are exercised. The transaction announced increases firm orders for Q400/Q400 NextGen aircraft to 362, with 245 delivered as of April 30, 2009. Q400 and Q400 NextGen aircraft are in service with, or have been ordered by, 30 operators around the world. “Comfortably Greener” Q400 and Q400 NextGen Aircraft Ideally suited to short-haul operations and optimized for best-in- class efficiency, Q400 and Q400 NextGen airliners are fast, quiet, fuel-efficient and low-emission 70- to 80-seat large turboprops. The Q400 and Q400 NextGen aircraft’s jet-like cruise speed of 360 knots (667 km/h) allows for airline schedule optimization, and the aircraft provide a perfect balance of passenger comfort and operating economics with a reduced environmental footprint. The Q400 NextGen aircraft features a redesigned interior to enhance the passenger experience including the introduction of LED lighting, new ceiling panels, dished window sidewalls and larger overhead luggage bins. Combining these features with the Active Noise and Vibration Suppression (ANVS) system gives passengers on the Q400 NextGen aircraft an even more pleasant flight experience.
