Ovum: Telcos must upgrade legacy revenue management systems in order to capitalize on next-gen opportunities

Posted by fidest press agency su giovedì, 14 gennaio 2016

MelbourneMelbourne. Competition, market consolidation, and customer demands are forcing telcos into drastic action, and improving revenue management systems ranks high on their list of IT priorities, according to global analyst firm Ovum. Telcos are feeling the pressure to offer more robust services, become digital service providers, and even collaborate with third-party service providers; however, they are limited by legacy revenue management systems.According to the latest Ovum report*, 60% of telcos state they have 50 or more revenue management systems supporting operations. Over the next year, telcos will focus on upgrading their revenue management systems through major transformation projects, and will focus on restructuring roaming tariffs, consolidating systems, and adding convergence and real-time charging capabilities. In its “Telecoms Billing Market Landscape: Challenges and Priorities” report, Ovum discusses the results of the survey, assessing the challenges that telcos are facing with their existing billing systems and their priorities for selecting a new billing solution and vendor.Chantel Cary, author of the report and Ovum analyst, commented: “The telecoms industry now has to move at Internet speed. Customers are always online or interacting with a connected device and this is changing their expectations of their telco service providers.”
Telcos, however, are hindered by legacy systems that are incapable of handling the new demands of the industry. The next-gen telco will be expected to offer a wide array of physical and virtual goods and services from third-party providers; dynamically change service settings, tariffs, and pricing bundles in real time for different subscriber types; and provide this information on the same bill.
“For telcos to get to this point, they will need to make significant investments into improving their revenue management systems; therefore, we anticipate approximately 15% of telcos’ overall IT budget over the next 18 months to be allocated toward revenue management systems,” said Cary.As telcos begin to upgrade and replace components of revenue management systems, they will be specifically looking for solutions that provide essential capabilities such as convergence of fixed, mobile, physical, and virtual services, and subscriber types; real-time charging capabilities for postpaid subscribers; scalability; and integration with other key systems such as CRM.“Placing parts of the revenue management systems into the cloud is also a priority for telcos, with 55% stating that they will use private or hybrid cloud to host their revenue management systems over the next year. As a result, we see large BSS suites and managed services providers as best positioned to win telco revenue management business,” concluded Cary.

General Assembly 8 – watershed moment for WWF and the RSPO

Posted by fidest press agency su venerdì, 23 marzo 2012

The re-run of the eighth General Assembly of the Roundtable on Sustainable Palm Oil (RSPO) was a watershed moment for the organisation. The interests of palm oil producers have been ignored by other members of the RSPO.Is this the moment that RSPO becomes a vehicle of WWF and their ambition to control and transform markets?
RSPO General Assembly will no longer be a democratic process. The General Assembly of the RSPO passed resolution 6c which sought to reduce the number of members required for a quorum from 50 per cent to a mere 80. 80 members currently represents a mere 13 per cent of RSPO members, lowering the standard of participation and representative democracy in the RSPO even further. A resolution put forward by WWF and a number of other environmental interest groups has tightened the standards for growers, traders/processors, consumer goods manufacturers and retailers. While the new resolution appears to treat all groups equally, a closer look at the detail makes it clear that the resolution is actually targeting growers and processors.Voluntary certification systems have been touted for a long time by WWF to demonstrate that they were pro-market & market-friendly. So far none of the WWW sponsored systems have won market support. Consumers will not pay the cost of the “sustainability premium”. The WWF strategy now is to capture and direct the markets and dictate to consumers and producers; and to pressure governments to regulate compliance with their systems.

Telematics systems

Posted by fidest press agency su martedì, 19 ottobre 2010

Commercial vehicle (CV) telematics systems have been available for some time, but the market has not reached the revenue growth that was projected at its inception, especially after the recession. But now, the market is ready to experience a second wave of technology innovation, application penetration, and market growth. The benefits of CV telematics are breaking new ground as systems grow beyond traditional applications such as vehicle tracking, security, and fleet performance monitoring to new and potentially rewarding applications such as proactive maintenance, prognostics, two-way internet access, ubiquitous communications, and driving behavior monitoring, among others. To discuss which telematics services should be given more importance for carriers to emerge successfully in the coming years and to analyze the potential for telematics services such as navigation, remote vehicle diagnostics and HOS for the North American medium and heavy-duty commercial vehicle telematics market, the Automotive & Transportation Group at Frost & Sullivan (http://www.transportation.frost.com) is pleased to announce that it will be hosting an online analyst briefing presentation on Thursday, 21 October, 2010 at 3:00 pm BST. This briefing will benefit commercial vehicle OEMs, carriers, system suppliers, content providers / map providers, local and national authorities and fleet managers/owners. Highlights of this briefing include an analysis of market dynamics and trends, projections of the future outlook of the market and the opportunities it offers, and, a discussion of whether the upcoming safety-centric regulations make an impact on the telematics market.

Posted by fidest press agency su giovedì, 13 agosto 2009

Zeist, 30 September 2009 in Amsterdam RAI the Netherlands Conferences & Exhibitions Europoint b.v. one-day workshop on Performance Based Logistics will take for the Netherlands, preliminary to the international conference on defence logistics ALICE 2009. The workshop is an initiative of the University of Tennessee (USA) and Europoint Conferences & Exhibitions (Netherlands) and offers the chance to extend the existing PBL knowledge.Over the course of the past decade, performance-based product support best practices have been described and refined in military organizations around the world. Although the United States Department of Defense is the broadest application example of PBL, these best practices have been found all over the world. PBL can be applied at the component, sub-system, or weapons systems level. Performance-based, outcome oriented approaches catalyze innovation in both government and industry, providing more effective and affordable solutions for weapons systems support. This dynamic and highly interactive workshop ‘Performance Based Logistics: Current Perspectives’ will cover among others the following areas:-  What is PBL, and where does it seem to be headed? – The trade space: best value tradeoffs and finding the compelling opportunity among cost,  performance, profit, affordability, investment, and enterprise priorities) – Tenets: just what are the building blocks of a PBL relationship? –  The network implications of PBL: partnerships, the opportunities inherent in “pooled” requirements and a virtual fleet. – Review and discussion of the PBL award winning programs in the United States  – Policy insights and political considerations in America, and implications for European partners  The University of Tennessee and Europoint have started a cooperation to organise the Performance Based Logistics workshop in the Netherlands. The University of Tennessee has had many years of experience in developing high quality educational and research programmes and Europoint has been leading for over 12 years in organising specialised conferences. The combined expertise of both companies has resulted in a high quality workshop specific for the defence logistics sector, with the kick-off preliminary to the international conference ALICE 2009. http://www.alice2009.eu.
