DiDi Introduces Smart Transportation Solution for Traffic Management

Posted by fidest press agency su sabato, 27 gennaio 2018

traffic monitoringDidi Chuxing, the world’s largest mobile transportation platform, together with Chinese traffic management authorities, today launched an integrated solution for smart city traffic management, nicknamed “DiDi Smart Transportation Brain.” The DiDi Smart Transportation Brain has been adopted by more than 20 Chinese cities and is guided by three principal features: Discover, Decide and Deploy. Integrating DiDi’s robust anonymized traffic data, as well as data resources from local government and business partners, the solution facilitates real-time data leveraging cloud computing and AI-based technologies to provide cities with a range of transportation infrastructure improvements, including traffic flow measurements, “Smart Traffic Signals,” reversible lanes, and traffic management programs for maintenance scheduling and system assessments. In Jinan, the capital city of Shandong Province, Smart Traffic Signals have been installed at 344 road intersections, saving more than 30,000 hours of travel time for local commuters, or an annual savings of over 11.5 million hours. As a result, average traffic delays have been shortened by 10% to 20%. In total, DiDi has introduced Smart Traffic Signals on over 1,200 intersections nationwide.
Cheng Wei, Founder and CEO of Didi Chuxing said, “Over the past five years, transportation has rapidly come online around the world. In China, 80% of Chinese taxi drivers pick up riders using DiDi’s platform. With smart transportation core to DiDi’s strategy, we are closely engaged with the physical offline aspect, bringing a unique offering to cities.”Zhang Bo, CTO of Didi Chuxing, said, “DiDi is committed to becoming a provider of smart transportation services as we view people, vehicles and traffic lights as the essential components of our traffic system. By making use of DiDi big data capabilities, the Smart Transportation Brain will continue evolving to upgrade the integrated solution for urban traffic problems.”To support scientific research on transportation, DiDi also expanded its GAIA initiative worldwide earlier this month, providing researchers access to anonymized route data from the DiDi platform. https://gaia.didichuxing.com/en (photo: traffic monitoring)

Posted by fidest press agency su giovedì, 26 settembre 2013

Alitalia A330-200 EI-DIP

Alitalia A330-200 EI-DIP (Photo credit: BriYYZ)

(Primo Mastrantoni, segretario Aduc)

Il futuro dei porti

Posted by fidest press agency su mercoledì, 4 aprile 2012

Frost & Sullivan Comment by Automotive & Transportation Consultant, Vitaly Belskiy

Posted by fidest press agency su venerdì, 30 marzo 2012

Warsaw “If you want to prosper in the current automotive market environment (especially when it comes to the highly competitive premium segment), you need to be able to make bold decisions. Opening a new plant for successors of compact A and B-class cars in Hungary and offering four instead of two models is the clear long term move (construction of the plant has started in 2008) to strengthen Daimler’s position (MB-Cars’ share of A/B-class sales has dropped from 20 per cent in 2008 and 2009 to 18 per cent in 2010 and further 14 per cent in 2011) in a relatively price sensitive compact car segment. Combined with leveraging cheaper labour, it goes in line with Daimler’s plans to achieve both its profitability target (a rather impressive 10 per cent by 2013), an ambitious 1.6 mln sales mark by 2015 (compared to 1.27 mln in 2008). The question is, however, will Daimler manage to keep production flexible as the European auto industry is facing challenging times in terms of demand for new cars. Increasing the share of temporary workers in Eastern Europe can become a viable solution which will allow adjustments to changing demand for new orders. The solution is not new and this is something, which Daimler is looking at in Germany, or Fiat in Poland. Local production will also help Daimler to grab a stronger foothold in the promising Eastern European market, the potential of which is still to be unveiled.“

Impact of Canal Expansion on U.S. Grain and Soybean Exports

Posted by fidest press agency su sabato, 29 ottobre 2011

Image via Wikipedia

The Panama Canal set a new record for total cargo volume – 322 million tons – in fiscal 2011, outstripping 2010’s volume by 7.1 percent and breaking the previous record, set in 2007, by 2.9 percent.A transportation study by the United Soybean Board (USB) projects that the total volume of soybean and grain traffic through the canal will increase by 30 percent when the canal opens a third lane of locks in 2014. This new larger, shipping lane will expand the average area for barge transport from 70 to over 150 miles. And assuming the ports will dredge to ensure passage of larger ships, the expansion is expected to save about $.35 cents per bushel on transportation costs for elevators within range of the central Gulf of Mexico ports. The canal’s increased capacity will also allow a Panama ship originating in southern Louisiana to load an additional 13,300 metric tons (524,000 bushels) of corn per trip, increasing each shipment’s value by about $3.4 million. The USB analysis indicates the total volume of grain and soybeans transiting the Panama Canal will increase 30 percent (426 million bushels) by 2020/2021. The U.S. Grains Council will host its annual meeting in Panama City, Panama, Feb. 13-15, 2012. Mark your calendars and don’t miss your opportunity to hear about this and more at this must-attend meeting.

On Electric Commercial Vehicles

Posted by fidest press agency su martedì, 23 marzo 2010

London Interest in electric commercial vehicles (e-cv) is driven by fuel costs and concerns about emissions. Depot based delivery vehicles are ideal candidates for electrification as they operate on limited range with frequent stop-and-go routes. The availability of incentives at both local and national levels is driving the adoption of e-cv. Light vans and trucks are the main electric vehicles available today, however, as battery technology improves, we will see increased adoption of electric vehicles across light medium and heavy commercial vehicle sectors. To provide unique insights into the e-cv market, the Automotive & Transportation Group at Frost & Sullivan (http://www.transportation.frost.com) is pleased to announce that it will be hosting an online analyst briefing presentation on Wednesday, 31 March, 2010 at 3:00 pm BST. Highlights of the briefing include information on market players, opportunity analysis, and projected future market growth, incentives and challenges. By discussing emerging trends and providing forward projections for the European and North American Electric Commercial Vehicles market, this briefing will benefit commercial vehicle manufacturers, battery outfitters, and fleet owners.

Decrease in rail freight traffic volumes

Posted by fidest press agency su mercoledì, 1 luglio 2009

London The economic recession has caused a dramatic decrease in rail freight traffic volumes in Russia. While Russian rail operators have diversified their freight structure to preserve their market positions, some of the key rail manufacturers have partially halted production. “If Russia continues its plans towards implementing high-speed transportation, its lack of experience in construction and maintenance will lead to cooperation and joint ventures with the leading global rail vehicle manufacturers,” observes Frost & Sullivan Research Analyst Olha Kryvetska. To provide decision makers with a comprehensive overview of the Russian rail market, the Automotive & Transportation Group at Frost & Sullivan (http://www. transportation. frost.com) is pleased to announce it will be hosting an online analyst briefing presentation on Wednesday 8 July at 4:00pm

The analyst will also discuss emerging trends and forward projections for the Russian rail market. The discussion will benefit logistic operators, rail vehicle manufacturers, and companies interested in expanding their business in the Russian market.

2,000th Transportation Project Under Economic Recovery Act

Posted by fidest press agency su lunedì, 13 aprile 2009

Washington, DC – President Barack Obama today announced funding for the 2,000th transportation project under the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA), only six weeks after approving the first project.  The President made the remarks at the U.S. Department of Transportation with Vice President Biden and Transportation Secretary Ray LaHood. The 2,000th project is in Kalamazoo County, Michigan.  The $68 million project involves widening of I-94 from two lanes both east and westbound to three lanes in each direction.  The project will improve safety and ease congestion by providing a more efficient interchange.     State departments of transportation around the country have reported to FHWA intense competition by contractors for ARRA projects.  Bids have been roughly 15 to 20 percent lower on average, and as much as 30 percent lower in some cases, than engineers anticipated.  For example, in Colorado, the state’s first five ARRA transportation projects announced on April 2 were 12 percent lower than anticipated.   In Maine, one bridge project was 20 percent lower than estimated.  In Oregon, during February and March 2009, bids have averaged 30 percent lower than expected. President Obama secured passage of the ARRA and signed it into law on February 17, less than one month after taking office.  Less than two weeks later, on March 3, the President, Vice President Biden and Secretary LaHood released the first funding to the states and localities for highways, roads and bridge projects.  That release of funds came eight days earlier than required by law.  ARRA provides a total of $48.1 billion for transportation infrastructure projects to be administered by the U.S. Department of Transportation.  Of that $27.5 billion is for highways and bridges, $8.4 billion is for transit, $8 billion is for high speed rail, $1.3 billion is for Amtrak, $1.5 billion is for discretionary infrastructure grants $1.3 billion is for airports and Federal Aviation Administration facilities and equipment and $100 million for shipyards.  In early February, prior to the passage of the ARRA, Secretary LaHood established within the U.S. Department of Transportation the TIGER (Transportation Investments Generating Economic Recovery) team to ensure that economic recovery dollars for transportation infrastructure projects is rapidly made available and that project spending is monitored and transparent.  On March 3, the President unveiled a TIGER logo, as well as an ARRA logo, that will be placed on construction signs across the country, to mark projects being built and jobs created with Recovery Act funds.
