Monotype Unveils Alibaba Sans, a Custom Brand Typeface for the Alibaba Group

Monotype (Nasdaq: TYPE) and Alibaba today unveiled the Alibaba Sans typeface. Designed for Alibaba Group, a multinational leader in e-commerce, retail and technology, the typeface family helps unify the company’s branding across its vast international apps, platforms and websites. With this launch, Alibaba is authorizing all merchants and brands free access to the font system to enable them to express their brand identity and create businesses that are beautiful and simple. Highly legible, energetic and expressive, the Alibaba Sans typeface family was designed by Akira Kobayashi of the Monotype Studio.
The Alibaba Sans family consists of 11 weights, and was designed to be aesthetically pleasing from small to large sizes across any device or location—from display screens, across multiple office buildings on the company campus, to e-commerce marketplaces. The typeface family supports 172 languages, and was designed with a strong emphasis on numerals and currency symbols, given the importance to the millions of merchants on Alibaba’s vast worldwide digital ecosystem.Monotype will be showcasing the design at Alibaba’s UCAN Design Conference 2019, taking place April 27-28, 2019, in Hangzhou, China. Mr. Kobayashi will be delivering a keynote presentation titled, “Creating the Visible Voice of Top Brands,” on April 27, 2019, 10:30-10:50 a.m. local time.With a mission “to make it easy to do business anywhere,” Alibaba Group helps connect buyers to sellers through its platforms. With its operations now spanning e-commerce, cloud computing, payment, logistics, digital media, and entertainment and innovation initiatives, Alibaba strives to provide nearly 700 million users and tens of millions of merchants worldwide on its platforms with a consistent look and feel. U.S. Bank Unveils New Brand Advertising Campaign

Initially appearing on major network channels during prime viewing hours, the new look, feel and message will make its way across U.S. Bank’s physical and digital footprint shortly thereafter.The new campaign replaces The Power of Possible, which has been running in select markets since 2016.“Our ‘Power of Possible’ campaign was a great start to help us think about how we are central to our customers’ lives,” said Beth McDonnell, chief marketing officer. “This new campaign demonstrates how we are there at the in-between life moments, too. Having a goal – and support from the right partner – helps you bring your vision to life.” A total of six new spots will run during the life of the campaign and will feature stories about customers working toward their goals with persistence and determination. The robust national TV/video advertising effort will be supplemented by banner ads, social media, radio and print. Customer stories will be featured in print issues and digitally with Money, PEOPLE, Parents and REAL SIMPLE telling real stories of how U.S. Bank has helped customers navigate those “in-between” moments toward achieving their goals.

Centric Software’s latest Product Lifecycle Management (PLM) release is driven by feedback from Centric’s Customer Advisory Board and customer innovation partners. New innovations include the debut of a Final Inspection Module, including a new mobile app, to evaluate and track final product quality prior to acceptance and delivery. Also new are market-leading innovative Bill of Materials (BOM) ‘Sections’ and ‘Push’ tools to enable users to work on hundreds of styles per season and at least 2 seasons simultaneously for fast and efficient high-volume development as well as enhanced user experience with upgraded business analytics capabilities.Centric’s new Final Inspection Module expands Centric PLM’s digital transformation capabilities to the evaluation of final production goods prior to purchase order acceptance and product delivery. Steinway & Sons Unveils Historic 600,000th Piano–The Fibonacci

Handcrafted using natural Macassar ebony, the end result is a feat of artistry, engineering and precision that celebrates this milestone for Steinway & Sons and demonstrates the company’s ongoing commitment to uncompromising craftsmanship. Named “The Fibonacci,” the piano’s veneer features the iconic Fibonacci spiral made entirely from six individual logs of Macassar Ebony, creating a fluid design that represents the geometric harmony found in nature. The lines of The Fibonacci spiral on the top of the piano’s lid are projected down to its unique curved base. Synthetic ivory inlay adds a breathtaking effect to the design, which also features unique patinated bronze details. In the end, over 6,000 hours of work over a four-year period were devoted to the creation of The Fibonacci, from design to finish. The superior craftsmanship of the piano’s exterior is matched only by the unparalleled craftsmanship that is at the very core of all Steinway & Sons pianos.According to Frank Pollaro, “Designing Steinway & Sons’ 600,000th piano was an honor and a challenge. To me, knowing that this piano would become part of history meant that it had to be more than just a beautiful design, but also needed to visually convey a deeper message.” Pollaro added, “As I considered the number 600,000, the Fibonacci spiral came to mind.
