U.S. extradition request for Julian Assange to be heard on Thursday

Posted by fidest press agency su giovedì, 2 maggio 2019

LONDON (Reuters) – A request by the United States to extradite WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange for one of the biggest ever leaks of classified information will be heard by a London court on Thursday.”Julian Assange will be sentenced at Southwark Crown Court at 1030 tomorrow for ‘violating his bail conditions’ whilst seeking & obtaining political asylum,” WikiLeaks said.”On Thursday at 10AM there will be a hearing in Westminster Magistrate Court on the US extradition request,” it said.The U.S. Justice Department said Assange was charged with conspiring with former Army intelligence analyst Chelsea Manning to gain access to a government computer as part of a 2010 leak by WikiLeaks of hundreds of thousands of U.S. military reports about the wars in Afghanistan and Iraq and American diplomatic communications. Trump Trade: More Bark than Bite?/”Trump trade”: plus de peur que de mal?

Posted by fidest press agency su domenica, 23 aprile 2017

trumpSince the election of the new US President Donald Trump, uncertainty surrounds the new direction that US trade policy will be taking. Should we expect a hard Trump or a soft Trump? To what extent does Trump’s desire to rebalance US trade and to “level the playing field”, mean “playing dirty” by adopting aggressive unilateral measures, and thus risking a profound disruption of international trade by triggering an escalation in the targeted countries’ response? In this policy paper, Elvire Fabry, senior research fellow at the Jacques Delors Institute, analyses the factors that will prevail in Washington’s initiatives et outlines two scenarios allowing to decipher the way in which these various parameters might be played out:
• An aggressive economic nationalism;
• A protectionist megaphone with limited disruption.
The Europeans need to seriously prepare a gradual response to Donald Trump’s protectionism, all the more that the European Union is more vulnerable than China. While the latest developments would argue in favour of a soft Trump, an aggressive scenario cannot be excluded, and call Europeans to prepare responses, notably:
preserving multilateralism, by forging a broad coalition with Asia, Africa and Latin America against protectionism;
avoiding a risk of divisions between EU member states by making a collective commitment to use trade defence instruments and by preparing a European harmonisation of corporate tax;
and building consensus over European trade policy.
(photo: trump)

Surprises from small markets, US and China continue to dominate

Posted by fidest press agency su domenica, 28 febbraio 2016

marketsAt first glance, it would appear that globally, the market research industry experienced another year of healthy growth in 2014, continuing on from the happy surprises of last year’s ESOMAR Global Market Research report. However, global growth actually slowed from 2013 at 0.7% to 0.1% in 2014. The market research industry turnover for 2014 (estimated to be at US$ 43,864 million) owes up to US$ 3195 million of its sum to new figures provided to ESOMAR by the USA for their 2013 turnover, revealing the USA’s 2012 – 2013 growth to be even more significant than previously suggested. Taking this into consideration, between 2013 and 2014, our industry has demonstrated stability. The backdated figures represent a broader market, such as services directly from clients as well as market research analytics, illustrating the importance in taking note of the non-traditional sources expanding the industry. ESOMAR has highlighted this in recent years by collaborating with Outsell to produce a “broader footprint” evaluation of the US market, which proved to be 1.5 times larger than the global traditional market research industry in 2014. Simply Italian Great Wines US Tour

Posted by fidest press agency su venerdì, 23 ottobre 2015

simply italianoIl 26 e 28 ottobre, rispettivamente a Chicago e a San Francisco, torna il Simply Italian Great Wines US Tour, l’atteso appuntamento organizzato da I.E.M. (International Exhibition Management) e I.E.E.M.
Wines.
Tom Hyland, giornalista ed esperto del vino italiano di fama internazionale condurrà il seminario “Sardinia an Island to Discover: From its Vineyards to its Surrounding Treasures”.
I.E.M. (foto: simply italiano)

US consumption: Happy Black Friday!

Posted by fidest press agency su domenica, 30 novembre 2014

consumer.480In recent years, US consumer spending has grown less rapidly than the historical norm. Several constraints have weighed on household income in an environment dominated by the correction of past excesses (housing market). Fiscal policy was a particularly strong brake from 2011 to 2013, both directly (tax hike) and indirectly (uncertainty). This constraint seems to have been loosened, while employment conditions are improving sharply. An acceleration in disposable income is thus foreseeable in 2015, and this should be reflected in consumption and growth figures.

US China cooperation could make major difference to emissions gap – research

Posted by fidest press agency su mercoledì, 22 ottobre 2014

climateBonn. If the US and China were to adopt global best practice in their domestic action on climate, together, the world’s largest emitters could close the 2020 emissions gap by 23%, according to new research.In their latest Climate Action Tracker update, research organisations Climate Analytics, Ecofys and the Pik Potsdam Institute for Climate Impact Research have compared the actions of both China and the US on climate change.
They looked at the actions of both countries in their most energy-intensive sectors: electricity production, industry, buildings and transport, compared them with each other, and also looked at what each country could achieve if it were to adopt global best practice in those areas.“The US and China produce 35 percent of global emissions and have been making efforts to work with each other on climate change. If they scaled up action to adopt the most ambitious policies from across the world, they would both be on the right pathway to keep warming below 2degrees C,” said Bill Hare of Climate Analytics. “This needs to include dramatically reducing their use of coal, in order to achieve the deep decarbonisation needed of getting C02 emissions from coal back to 1990 levels by 2030.”Dr Niklas Höhne, of Ecofys, said the sectoral comparisons for both countries produced results showing there were lessons to be learned by both.“We looked at how well both the US and China would do if they each adopted a ‘best of the two’ practice in electricity production, industry, buildings and transport. We found this, alone, would set them in a better direction,” said Höhne. “They could both learn from each other in most sectors.”If they did this, in relative terms, China could reduce emissions from its current policy projections by 1.2% in 2020 and 20% in 2030 – and 3.2% and 16% for the US. But going for global best practice, together, the two countries would reduce emissions in 2020 by 2.8 GtCO2e/a below current policy projections and thus close 23% of the emissions gap. In 2030, the reductions would be of 6.7 GtCO2e/a, or 10% below the Climate Action Tracker global current policy projections.
