For this event half the team served family members in St. Paul, Minnesota, while the other half of volunteers traveled to Kuwait for this groundbreaking partnership.More than 650 members of the Minnesota National Guard’s 34th Red Bull Infantry Division are currently deployed across the Middle East, providing leadership, command, and planning as a part of Operation Spartan Shield. First Volunteers Dosed in Phase I Clinical Trial of PBT434, Prana’s Lead Therapy for Parkinsonian Diseases

Posted by fidest press agency su sabato, 7 luglio 2018

The trial conducted in Melbourne, Australia is recruiting and dosing healthy adult and elderly volunteers, to ascertain the optimal drug dose. The primary goal of the Phase 1 clinical trial is to demonstrate the safety and tolerability of PBT434, with a secondary endpoint of pharmacokinetic measures assessing and understanding how the drug is absorbed and metabolised in the human body.PBT434 is the first of a new generation of small molecules designed to inhibit the aggregation of alpha(α)-synuclein and tau, critical intracellular proteins that are implicated in neurodegenerative diseases such Parkinson’s disease and atypical parkinsonism. PBT434 has been shown to reduce the pathological accumulation of these proteins in animal models of disease and has excellent potential to treat various forms of atypical parkinsonism, such as Multiple System Atrophy (MSA) and Progressive Supranuclear Palsy (PSP).Prana’s Chief Medical Officer and Senior Vice President, Clinical Development Dr David Stamler, MD, said: “The first human administration of PBT434 is a major milestone for Prana. MSA and PSP are devastating diseases with no effective treatments and this is an important first step in developing a therapy for individuals with these diseases.” The development program for PBT434 is being led by Dr Stamler from Prana’s San Francisco office. Dr Stamler and his team are highly experienced and have brought several new drugs to market, including deutetrabenazine for the treatment of Huntington’s disease chorea and Tardive dyskinesia, both of which were approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) in 2017. This was the second neurological agent that Dr Stamler has led through the approval process with the FDA.

Posted by fidest press agency su sabato, 16 giugno 2018

Domtar Corporation (NYSE: UFS) (TSX: UFS) announced that employee volunteers from the company’s pulp mill in Dryden, Ontario, Canada, and their families, revitalized Lions Park next to Dryden High School today. Domtar’s Dryden Mill led the community conservation project with members of the Student Conservation Association, a long-time non-profit partner of Domtar’s, and the City of Dryden. Domtar makes a wide variety of everyday products from sustainable wood fiber, and is one of the world’s largest producers of a complete line of absorbent hygiene solutions and an innovator in absorbent technology. Located in Northwestern Ontario, Canada, Domtar’s Dryden Mill employs more than 380 people in the community and produces Northern Bleached Softwood Kraft pulp suitable for a variety of uses.“We have a longstanding relationship with Dryden High School and many of our employees and neighbors have children that go to the school or have over the years,” said Domtar Regional Public Affairs Manager, Bonny Skene. “We are pleased to partner with the City of Dryden to ensure that Lions Park, a community space that is important to us all, is safe, accessible, and enjoyable for the community.”The City of Dryden identified the Lions Park conservation project as an important community priority for Domtar and the Student Conservation Association, helped raise awareness, and will have employees on site Saturday to coordinate and provide assistance to volunteers. Volunteers will remove brush and trim back low-hanging branches along community trails in Lions Park. Adjacent to Dryden High School, many students use the trails in Lions Park on their way to school each morning. However, winter storms have left the park run down with brush to be cleared and low-hanging branches to be trimmed back from the trails.“Caring is one of Domtar’s core values—caring for our employees, customers, and the communities we serve,” said Domtar Corporate Responsibility Manager, Heather Alverson Stowe. “Sustainability is one of Domtar’s core corporate giving pillars, which is why we invest in and lead community conservation projects with non-profit partners like the Student Conservation Association that engage employees, benefit neighbors, and enrich our environment.”Since 2012, Domtar has partnered with the Student Conservation Association to lead conservation and restoration projects that promote sustainability in the local communities where we operate. The Student Conservation Association provides opportunities for young people to make a positive impact on the world around them by protecting, enhancing, and restoring community green spaces, like Lions Park.

Global Volunteers Bring Hurricane Relief to Virgin Islands

Posted by fidest press agency su mercoledì, 11 ottobre 2017

virgin islandsWASHINGTON, D.C.(PR NewsChannel) One Love BVI (OLB) announced the successful launch of the world’s first international aid and volunteer organization focused solely on the British Virgin Islands. Following the unprecedented devastation of Hurricane Irma, the most powerful Atlantic hurricane in history, global activists leveraged the combined power of Facebook, Squarespace and DonorBox to harness the outpouring of support for the tiny, virtually unknown archipelago.Sophie Leroy, an administrator of the grassroots Facebook group, “BVI Abroad – Hurricane Irma” and former resident of the B.V.I., said, “We never expected this to go viral — we thought we were just connecting a few friends who were desperately trying to get news about our loved ones in the B.V.I. Honestly, our entire admin team has been blown away by the response.”
Members of the group rapidly began searching for ways to help. OLB’s Chief Operating Officer, Lauren Taylor, another former resident of the the B.V.I. and now a tech entrepreneur, recognized the need to create a volunteer database and launched BVI Volunteers in 15 hours using Squarespace.
Ms. Taylor said, “In the immediate aftermath of both Irma and Maria, we had thousands of passionate people who were ready to fly, sail or swim to the B.V.I. and roll up their sleeves and help. But the islands were decimated, food and water was scarce, and the U.K. and B.V.I. governments had no alternative but to declare a state of emergency and enforce a curfew. As hard as it was to stand by, we knew that more people coming in would have just added to the burden.”“We didn’t want to lose the energy of over 30,000 B.V.I. fans,” Ms. Taylor added, “So getting willing volunteers into a database and preparing and staging them for volunteer opportunities was the first priority. We were able to provide a list of 40 trained medical personnel offering relief staffing to the team at Peebles Hospital in just 48 hours. That team is now over 100 people.”
In the B.V.I. business community, Cameron McColl, Chairman of Nanny Cay Marina, witnessed firsthand the need for an organization focused solely on the B.V.I.’s relief and recovery. Mr. McColl said, “Operating a large business in the B.V.I. and being closely connected with the territory for many years, I realized there was a need for a dedicated and efficient structure through which all that positive energy could be quickly channeled to where it was most urgently needed.”
OLB has already garnered support from prominent B.V.I. citizens. Colin O’Neal, CEO of JOMA (Properties) Ltd., said, “As a British Virgin Islander who, like so many others, has suffered devastating personal and community loss from the hurricanes, I recognize the enormity of the journey to full recovery that lies ahead for us all. When I learned of plans to create One Love BVI, dedicated solely to helping us along that journey, I had no hesitation in supporting their efforts. We need help. They can get this done.”
One Love BVI (OLB) is a U.S.-based nonprofit dedicated to the relief, rehabilitation and recovery of the British Virgin Islands. OLB provides aid, supplies and volunteers to help families, communities and businesses get back on their feet and build a thriving, environmentally and economically sustainable future. OLB’s core program, BVI Volunteers, leverages the professional skills of over 600 volunteers from around the world, with 22 teams including medical personnel, pilots, security, supply coordination, shipping logistics, architects, engineers, solar technicians, contractors, construction workers and more. http://www.bvivolunteers.com.
