European vote: In the realm of “fake-news”

Posted by fidest press agency su martedì, 11 giugno 2024

I don’t think it will be possible in mathematical terms to know how many Italians have deserted the polls for the European vote, disconcerted both by the many “fake-news” that have been mixed with the correct information and by the poor proposal of the parties in the running and their candidates for a new construction of the European identity or, better, for a project that can bring it up to date and respond effectively to the various planetary turbulences in progress. Today, more than ever, we need a Europe capable of demonstrating its unity of purpose, its cohesion and its authority in defending the founding values expressed by a complete democracy, freedom and free thought aimed at the creation of homo novus. To be reflected in that human being, so to speak, who knows how to dialectically contain the opposing interests and make tolerance prevail between the parties and the way to compose them or make them emerge in a clear and reasoned way, nipping the armed clash in the bud. This is because, with Europe and the world, we have reached an epochal turning point where it is no longer possible to go down the road of bloody conflicts, with the disturbing shadow of the atomic deterrent, without involving millions of innocent victims and causing immense destruction. The proof is these days both in Ukraine and Palestine but also in the various hotbeds of war scattered around the world. All this reminds us of two important aspects that involve us and make us responsible: the weakness of the institutions and the lack of love of the peoples by deserting the ballot box. They are the lethal fruits produced by that part of humanity that wants to emerge in the logic of homo homini lupus (lupus est homo homini, non homo) and that according to Plautus intends to allude to human selfishness and that we add to it the thirst for power and dominion over minds. “Domine quo vadis?” (Riccardo Alfonso from the book “The world as I see it”)
