Machina: Tecnologia dell’Antica Roma

Roma dal 22 dicembre 2009 al 5 aprile 2010 Museo della Civiltà Romana saranno svelati al pubblico i segreti delle macchine che hanno contribuito alla costruzione e alla gestione dell’Impero. L’esposizione è a cura di Rita Correnti Percivalli, Presidente di Associazione Piazza Duomo, ed è promossa dall’Assessorato alle Politiche Culturali e della Comunicazione – Sovrintendenza ai Beni Culturali del Comune di Roma e da “Sapienza” Università di Roma con il contributo di Fondazione Roma, Regione Lazio, Ministero dell’Università e della Ricerca scientifica. Dopo l’inaugurazione a Roma e altri appuntamenti in Italia, Machina. Tecnologia dell’Antica Roma farà poi tappa all’estero, in un lungo giro fino al 2011.
Machina. Tecnologia dell’Antica Roma propone oltre 100 esempi di tecnologia suddivisi tra reperti archeologici, ricostruzioni virtuali, macchine, meccanismi e opere in scala. Ben 47 calchi dalla collezione del Museo della Civiltà Romana e 32 frammenti, tra cui degli inediti provenienti dall’Antiquarium comunale, arricchiscono e completano la mostra. Attraverso le macchine esposte, ricostruite ex-novo dall’artigiano fiorentino Gabriele Niccolai sulla base di studi di reperti e testimonianze, sarà possibile comprenderne i principi tecnologici di funzionamento e la manovrabilità. Inoltre, tutte le opere e i macchinari esposti saranno pubblicati in un Catalogo di 296 pp. a cura di Palombi Editore, che sarà presentato in occasione della Mostra. I settori esplorati in mostra sono undici. 1. Misurazione del tempo e dello spazio; 2. Tecnologia delle costruzioni; 3. Tecnologia idraulica; 4. Tecnologia militare; 5. Tecnologia nelle comunicazioni e nei trasporti; Tecnologia nella medicina; Tecniche nella metallurgia e nella falegnameria; 8. Tecniche nella lavorazione del vetro e dell’argilla; 9. Tecnologia in agricoltura; 10. Tecniche artistiche; 11. Tecnologia negli strumenti musicali, del divertimento e tempo libero. La mostra sarà particolarmente adatta alle Visite Guidate delle Scuole, che saranno svolte dagli studenti dell’Università “Sapienza” di Roma.

Rome, from 22 December 2009 to April 5, 2010 At Museo della Civiltà Romana will be unveiled to the public the secrets of the machines that have contributed to the construction and management of the Roman Empire. The exhibition is curated by Rita Perceval Correnti, president of Association Piazza Duomo and is promoted by the Cultural Policies and Communication – Superintendency of Cultural Heritage of the City of Rome and from Sapienza University of Rome with the contribution of Fondazione Roma, Lazio Region, Ministry of University and Scientific Research.
After its inaugural exhibition in Rome and other appointments in Italy, Machina- Technology of Ancient Rome will step outside, in a long ride until 2011.
Machina -Technology of Ancient Rome offers over 100 examples of technology comprising archaeological finds, reconstructions, virtual machines, mechanisms and works in scale. Some 47 casts from the collections of the Museum of Roman Civilization and 32 original fragments from the municipal Antiquarium, some never shown to the public before, enrich and complement the exhibition.
Through the incredible machines exhibited, built from scratch by Niccolai SNC team, based on studies of exhibits and testimony, the visitor will understand the technological principles of operation and manoeuvrability. Moreover, all the works and machinery on display are featured in a catalogue of 296 pp. published by Palombi Editore,
The themes explored in the exhibition are eleven. 1. Measurement of time and space, 2. Building technology, 3. Hydraulic technology, 4. Military technology, 5. Technology in medicine, 6. Technology in communications and transport. 7. Agricultural technology, 8 Techniques in metallurgy and carpentry, 9. Techniques in glass and clay, 10. Artistic techniques, 11. Technology in musical instruments, entertainment and leisure.
The exhibition will be particularly suited to guided tours for schools, which will be conducted by students of the University “Sapienza” of Rome.
